A small pet emergency
It's nothing tragic, I promise! But I did want to update you guys on what happened, since I know a lot of you are animal lovers and know my Dachshund Andy (the owner of the pawprint I have tattooed on my left wrist).
So today I woke to find that my pup Andy (who turned 6 last month) had a large swollen lump on his neck. We planned to take him to the vet on Monday, but by this evening it was swollen so large that it looked really quite scary. We took him to an emergency vet, where they examined him and determined that it was a large abscess which needed to be lanced and given anti-biotics.
Long story short, I've got to flush the wound of puss and blood every day for a while, as well as administer pain killers and antibiotics every 12 hours. I'm glad it isn't anything too serious, but my poor little guy is pretty obviously miserable.
The day ended up costing us $430 (they had to give him anesthesia before lancing the abscess) -- which luckily we had no problem paying, as we have emergency funds specifically for instances like this. But boy, that was really quite a surprise!
For anyone curious, here's pictures of my little dude. Nothing gory, don't worry. I know some people have weak stomachs for things like that (and I don't blame you)!

And after, passed out and looking sad. ): http://i.imgur.com/GMbvOcq.jpg

that sucks. Hope your pet will be okay.
Glad it wasn't something more serious and hopefully he'll make a speedy recovery.
Same with the huge abnormality under her belly. In her last year, it was bigger than what my two hands could cup. Mostly just water. But when irritated, the plump grows stiff. Laying down and such was rather painful for her. So... yeah. Finally put her down as it was just getting worse.
I'm really glad to hear that it was only an abscess. My Frenchie Grim died from lymphosarcoma almost three month ago (can''t believe it's already been so long). We had to put him down, since for his last 5 days he barely could walk and even drink, nor he could go to the toilet. On his last day he even pissed himself. Sorry for such details.
