Our first update of the Summer: the Terms of Service (TOS) and Acceptable Upload Policy (AUP) have been re-written from the ground up.
More than that, we've gone back and re-examined every rule, every policy, and asked ourselves "Does this hinder or hurt the community? Is this something we REALLY need? Was this rule created out of necessity or a reaction?".
Several policies have been outright removed, others heavily modified to be more lenient. We've lessened a lot of restrictions and worked towards making our rules easier to understand and follow. We understand that some rules did not read well, were too confusing or were just... well, to put it bluntly, bad.
With this update, our goal is to make the policies living documents that will better evolve over time to help address issues and provide clarification. We want to be more transparent about why policies are changing, our reasoning behind them and to help users follow the changes.
These rules will have a two week window (starting today) before we enforce them to give users a chance to digest the changes and work on compliance.
If you have any questions regarding the rules, changes or have concerns please address them in the post. No flaming. We will provide answers and help resolve concerns.

Let's see what will happen next.WAIT.
Folders?~
LET me know if you plan to do that at some point! :D
There are no "folders", the staff are just referring to "Gallery", "Scraps" etc as folders.
And yes, I know in a reply to an earlier comment, they're saying they are laying down the groundwork for the folders.
All I know is that when Weasyl and SoFurry switched to supporting what I was told is 'Markdown', that it made it a royal pain in the ass for me, as I had to go back and edit all of my submissions. So, for me Markdown=bad.
Usually when communicating in plain text, *asterisks* denote emphasis. ~Tildes~ were chosen for strikeout for some reason, probably because they look like a middle dash without actually being a middle dash, which is often used in text by itself.
Also, do not say "oh, you could use find/replace to fix that." Try editing something that is about 7,000 words or more (high-end of the short story, to about the size of a novel), adding bbcodes throughout the entire document. THAT is annoying as heck, just to create proper formatting.
You're never going to convince me that Markdown is a desirable thing. It's both unfamiliar to me, and in my limited experience with it, has created more problems for me in attempting to convey my meaning than it aides. It's one of the primary reasons why I really don't spend any time on Weasyl, despite some other very desirable features that site has.
But however you slice it, sexual double standards are still sexual double standards.
it's really about the same thing for the genders.
If you think furaffinity's rating guidelines are a human rights violation then your life is pretty well off.
I don't know if you've ever searched "boobs" on FA, but it doesn't portray a modest breastfeeding. FA doubles as a porn/kink site. The mods obviously want to establish a SFW alternative (button seen on the top right) that doesn't feature shitting dick nipples marked "General Audiences."
Honestly, I don't get how any guy can just show off their chest [even when no one wants to see those moobs omfg] yet a girl cannot even show her bare chest. Its like, nipples are there yes you don't use them for sex [well not TECHNICALLY] and they arent like, showing off their junk/vag.
I never got why people think male chests are fine but not female?
NUDITY should be allowed and not shunned away like it is. But y'know. "political correctness" and all that shit. :I
But most places first world countries, ESPECIALLY America basically go "No, it's indecent" because they consider 'female' breasts to be sexual organs like a penis or a vagina, etc. Even though they aren't. They're for feeding one's offspring, and otherwise, they are bags of fat on your chest. I assume, part of America's issue, is because we are a nation formed upon Puritanical foundations, which means we shy away from sex, and nudity, and all of that like a wilting virgin. :|
I think it's pretty awesome. 8U
But then, sarcasm isn't at all easy to convey on the internet unless you purposefully italicize things... lol
And that's as it should be. If an artist spews so many notices that it irritates their watchers, then their watchers can let their annoyance be known by unwatching the artist. If an artist advertises too frequently, they'll find that can be as detrimental to their business as no advertisement at all. I, personally, find stream notifications really annoying, and have unwatched artists for over-spamming of streams.
If I'm hunting for someone to do art for me, or it's otherwise important to me, I make a note of it the first time I see it, or actively peruse their stuff for notices.
That's my point exactly. You've seen the initial posting, made the decision to buy or not to buy, and moved on, as most watchers do. For the artists to have any hope of bringing in new buyers, then they need to advertise to their Gallery, so that it's visible on the FA main page, where someone who is not already watching them has a chance to see it. This is where regulation is appropriate. Too much advertising by any single person to their Gallery floods the FA main page, but zero advertising for anyone to their Gallery is so detrimental that for many artists it makes it not even worth trying to sell art.
Consider it like this...
An artist's page is like their store. Their Scraps, their profile, their journals, are all places to display and advertise their products that can be seen by people who already know their store is there, and have made the decision to walk inside (watchers). What a shop owner does inside their shop; blare annoying music, or constantly pump annoying advertisements over the PA; is up to them. If it causes patrons to leave their shop (unwatch), then that is their folly, but it's not affecting anyone but those who decided of their own free will to come into the shop.
An artist's Gallery is like their store-front; it can be seen by people walking down the street (the FA main page, as it were), and not only lets the passersby know the store is there, but encourages them to come inside and shop. The problem was that a small number of artists were advertising to their Gallery so frequently that the advertisements were spilling out of the shop windows, and blocking the street. So yes, some regulation is needed. The offenders were affecting not only the other 'stores', but irritating the heck out of people just walking down the street, minding their own business. A complete ban on advertising to the Gallery, however, is essentially blacking-out everyone's store windows, so passersby don't know what store is open, or that it is even there, unless they've already been inside. It's like the Leaky Cauldron tavern in Harry Potter; unless you know it's there, you just walk by it without seeing it.
If all an artist has is a crowd of regulars that come into their shop, look around, but never buy, then there's no point in the artist even opening for business. They need to be able to post at least a little bit of advertisement in the store windows in the hopes that it will attract someone that will actually come in and buy something.
That's what bothers me the most about this rule. It seems to be born out of an attitude by watchers that artists exist on this site to pump out new, original artwork for their viewing pleasure, and that artists should not have the (gasp and horror) audacity to advertise to people who are viewing for free the content that they create. It's a ridiculous position. Artists are on here to earn money, not to provide free content.
I'm looking forward to what middle ground is moved towards, if any. But for us casuals, it's better than the past "ten minutes of advertisements, five minutes of content" style.
i thought it was allowed in scraps (at least, last time I checked)
On a semi-off-topic-but-technical note, can any of the programmers and admins add a "Turn off Statistics?" option in the site? (particularly in going to your site settings from the main menus). I would like it this way, not to where you can turn it off on any page as it would be too convenient. It wouldn't hurt to implement that, as it would reduce superficial competition of popularity and less frustration / concern of number obsessions.
And as for the idea of toggling all statistics on and off? (this includes watched by and watchers count, not just a userpage's stats & file page stats)
The option to turn stats on and off should very seriously be considered and reinforced. I think it brings other people more frustration than good especially on not being able to have such ability to do so.
Mh.. like. maybe if the artist can see them but you have the option to hide them? (As in "I don't want to see the stats uploads have, I just want to see the upload itself" and then you can turn the stats on and off on your account?) °3°?
And by other people being frustrated... I'm thinking you're trying to say people get jealous of high stats others get? what? @_@
Userpage statistics
Submission file statisics
Watched by & Is Watching number count
Those three things should be individually available to toggle on or off inside a user's site settings for their adjustments.
But as to answer for your jealous mentions, I'm afraid so; yes, some people get bothered by just seeing others' stats, but others don't care. Either way, I figured it would help mention the idea of having properly adjustable stat-display modification options be implemented to this site for convenience's sake and just for any other reason that comes behind a user's decision to turn something on or off upon visibility.
Um~... Do you think it would be better if the people who don't want to SEE them was able to hide them? (people who browse)
or better if the people who don't want to SHOWN them to be able to hide them? (people that did the art piece)
Maybe both?
If this isn't the case, might want to make that clearer.~
Of course "everyone" does it so it's hard to be controled xD
Plus Streaming is still a stupid greyzone where an actual case infront of a court would probably be neglected...
How does that work? O.o
The laws are currently in flux, and it's very unlikely that anyone's going to be running around reporting streams but the fact remains that if you're streaming movies (or even listening to music while streaming your artwork) you're violating copyright law.
It's a good idea to plaster the "NOT OUR PROBLEM" clause all over the place though, I do agree.
See this journal for more info about why FA is making a mistake:
http://www.sofurry.com/view/723103
The discussion here was differentiating between AUP and ToS regarding FAs outward stance to distance themselve from copyright infringements - which should all be cleared under a ToS and not the AuP.
Update #3 is still in the works, but will feature minor site improvements.
There are revisions currently in the work (which started last month) to make some UI improvements in the mean time, and we expect to take that to beta sometime soon.
Also another question, this whole avatar updates ruling. No outlining whatsoever...so even if the character is clothed it is taken down? a butt icon with a covered genitals are bad?
On top of that, I have seen way worse avatars with explicit boobs and crotch outlines.. wiggling butts, bouncing boobs... so yeah
I've heard of so many stupid "promises" that have absolutely NO ground whatsoever. At least the guys over at SF keep the community informed of all the great stuff they do behind the scenes. - F R E Q U E N T L Y ! But what do we get here?! Black promises.
unless you mean there are actually people making characters via character creation games/programs and then selling em...
Yes, people ARE selling them. Granted, there are a few creators who allow it, but most don't. And those DeviantART users who do sell them (the ones who say 'oh, I can't draw so I should be able to do this') do pop up here on FA and are selling them still.
Case in point: http://i1118.photobucket.com/albums.....ps3bbdcfef.png
(identity hidden to avoid drama)
You can't really avoid it, but now that the staff has taken a side on the matter, maybe those posts will lessen (the adopt ones that is)
the idea that art can be judged by age when we can't effectively do that in real life (this is why they originally ID'd people buying cigarettes if they looked under 30, only to raise that to 40 because some under 18 yr olds apparently look 35...so trying judging a RL 17 yr old from a 19 yr old...how bout a 14 yr old?
So its basically carte blanche for admins to not only remove anything that looks young (which by the way means anything cute - as cuteness is hardwired in the human brain to be neonatal (infantile) aka young...small noses and mouths, big eyes, etc.)
AND they upped the penalty....you immediately get a 1 month suspension, first offense, permaban for 2nd, no warning even...
make your alt accounts on SF and IB now people lol
Why is this listed under "Gallery" when it applies to the scraps folder?
Not a bad idea... But probably a hassle to program.
Gallery and scraps =called folders already. Lolol
everyone knows though that this wont solve the SL flood
Except those wacky screenshots with poor quality ones and spammed just with different poses and angles <--- that is annoying.
I know that SecondLife can be use in a comic medium also, but often time its just people with random screenshots.
Since then FA had removed those guidelines, and in the wake allowed the main reason why SL was banned in the first place being the "random Screenshots"...
The Majority does not rule, its those who can fix and make a working system and so far the system is slowly getting worse.
So if people are still doing it, I doubt it will stop anytime soon. xD
Ass wiggles in panties is still previewed as sexual.
The icon thing is really an open ended thing, because there are so many variables.
There's no flat line of what is/isn't acceptable so they're kind of working through that.
So i think it's a case by case basis, that they can't narrow down, or handle because there's no legit yes/no rule.
Why?
Well, for the simple fact that I am legally, in every country, an adult. So I should be able to act as such, the fact they are forcing everyone into the 'Minors' category shows this site extremely biased and catering to only the Minors or people not wanting to see Adult content. FurAffinity claims not to be a pron site, yet if you look at the front page 98% of it is porn. Just like if you don't want to see porn, don't look at it, turn on SFW and be happy with all the clean artwork.
My point being, you wouldn't have this in the office as your desktop, or displayed on your laptop in a meeting for everyone to see, for a sfw rule for icons, it does not fit.
They're not forcing everyone into a pg+13 category, but if it's not something you can rate, it should follow the rules so minors aren't exposed. (legally saying)
(note: sfw doesn't work on icons so that...kind of doesn't work.)
They're not asking you to be a prissy virgin who never takes naked selfies, they're only asking since that minors do use this, that you display sfw icons and mark your mature/adult works so they're not breaking federal law. They don't care if you have 50 giant dicknipples in your sex life, they just don't want to take the repercussions of showing minors pornographic material.)
Don't take me as offensive, it's not my meaning at all.
It's never gonna be a clear yes/no. There are too many double standards or too many variables for fa's workers to handle.
That was my point, that everyone has different opinions on what's safe and not.
Of course I wouldn't have this at my Office as my Desktop or displayed on my laptop in a meeting, because I wouldn't be on FA I would be doing my job. Which is another thing I've always wondered, why is it called Not Safe for Work (NSFW)? If people are actually at work, why are you on FA looking at Adult content? It makes no sense to be on any site other then what you need to do your job.
Also they can make it so people can have NSFW pages and people that have the SFW tag option on can't see them, trust me I've seen much newer sites then FA have this option. So I don't think it would be that difficult, however with FAs track record, even if they did opt to make the option for people to have NSFW pages and SFW pages, it would probably take months or maybe even years to perform.
Also that is another issue, they say they make their rules clear, but they don't. Several of their rules can be taken in different ways, some of them are so vague that they can go either way. I think if they want to have something set, it should be set in stone and not left to be debated by peoples views or opinions.
General must be rigid because of people's need to use SFW Mode at public venues and work.
The reason why they'd be using this site at those places is because it's not just about finding something to fap to, there's a community aspect, social aspect, etc to this website. People visit to contact their friends. People visit to take care of notes and comments. Things like this.
Icons lately have been very NSFW, including your current icon. It is sexual in nature to your average corporate boss. Icons like yours could very well get someone fired if the supervisor peeks over at the wrong time. It's suggestive and a boss is not going to take the effort to see that "oh it's not so bad."
The two fixes are to either tighten up restrictions on icons to better line up with the general content restrictions (which they seem to be planning on doing, though people are going to kick and scream and whine) or to cause SFW Mode to completely hide all avatars.
Though i'm sad their common sense went right over there head.
I couldn't have said it any better, thank you.
Yeah, it's not a matter of 'the details', it's a matter of how an uptight boss will process it at a quick glance. :( Corporate America simply isn't the same as 'in your home or at college'. >.>;
Most if not a large amount of the members of this site are so hell bound and frothing at the mouth to insert their sex life, sexual desires, and other graphic or suggestive natures best left in the bedroom in everyone face. This why sites that restrict highly sexual content for furries are often severely underappreciated and sites that promote/endorse/advertize it flourish within weeks or a month of launch date. Of course human nature dictates that "sex sells" but I always find furries to be a special case demographic when it comes to the matter.
In short, if anyone even HINTS that they can't wear their sex life on their sleeve at all times, prepare for the wrath...
it's really sad even thinking about it now...
So anytime I hear "furries arnt all about sex!" I either am quick to call them a liar or a minority.
The people who get indignant, spewing stuff like "FURRY ISN'T ABOUT SEX/FETISHES" or "The fandom isn't just sex!" or whatnot I always just find them to be outright liars or speaking for a tiny, almost invisible minority. Furries have this great urge to bring up their fetishes and sex lives whenever they so much as crack open their gaping mouths, and the whole fandom is practically nothing but a cesspool of pictures of animals with their dicks out, pussy flaps hanging open, or having every single orifice and then some being filled. And if not that, then it's writing about it or roleplaying it, or chatting with others to sex it up. The number of furries I've met that are interested (or are totally disinterested) in things other than fulfilling empty sexual needs I could probably count on my fingers. Furries are entirely about sex, and they never at once stop flapping their jaws to prove themselves otherwise. I don't know why furries get so defensive about "mundanes" "stereotyping" them that they are sex-obsessed, because they pretty much paint that picture all on their own. And hey, the stereotype has to stem from somewhere!
The statement said either stick all avatars on a strict rating, or just disable them on the site's "SFW" mode. Are you pissed off or something? Your level of unnecessary rudeness is rising..
Just imagine this. Imagine I am Timmy, and I register on FA to see my friend's Billy gallery about anthro foxes having space adventures. Then, when reading the comments, I notice an obviously erotic homo icon of a tiger moving his butt as if he was dancing in a tabledance.
Surprise surprise, Timmy would need psychological threatment after that.
Till then, find someone else's time to waste.
On top of that, I have seen way worse avatars with explicit boobs and crotch outlines.. wiggling butts, bouncing boobs... so yeah, cant see why my avatar out of hundreds were picked out.
exactly XD
Not to mention my other trouble tickets that seem to take many months at a time to answer.
Idk what percentage has x rated icons but STILL
The main reason we have not brought on many admins is we felt the rules were broken, and it did not make sense to bring on new staff when the current staff felt there were too many problems with the previous rules. We have been in discussion for months on how to improve them, fix them and take the site in a better direction.
We want staff to come in with a proper ruleset that is A) easier to enforce and B) less overbearing to users.
I'm sorry, but how is this fair, or possible to enforce?
Let's say someone comes along and claims I stole their original black and white feline character, am I going to be banned because this one person had a conniption?
Something like this would be where we take a deeper look. If you have a blue fox with purple hair and somebody else has the same it would not be an issue. Only in cases where somebody has a truly unique character, and even then we would have to examine and evaluate all of the circumstances.
Cats n foxes pretty much are similar in at least some basic way
I do hope that no one does mistake the wording though, and I am glad to see the updates to the AUP and ToS as it makes it a lot easier to understand.
If anything, you should be changing that clause to impersonation of the dead, or something along those lines. Not characters derivative from living ones; They can get over it.
Also why are you using an example that happened OFF of FA to try and justify a rule you really have no business trying to enforce?
I'll stick to my original opinion that only people who are no longer with us should have any right to get upset.
I believe this rule mostly exists to have another avenue to get after people who are overall 'causing a problem'. By and large my experience with moderation and enforcement is "if you don't cause a problem, there's not a problem" -it's not necessarily favoritism, and I said it elsewhere but it also applies here, the moderator inconsistency is on its way out.
But in reality, individual markings, body type, personality, and design in general would play a part in that. Even it its something as simple as rounded/pointed ears.
FINE
I'll add wings
Happy?
Then it is legit.
(*sigh*)
Crazy!
It's not like favoritism has ever been shown on Fa towards other users
oh wait
Though to be fair here really, I don't think (at least I hope not) that the admins are going to ban every character that looks too much like another one. For example, let's say I make a simple red fox char, with little or no unique traits. There's like thousands of people who have characters that look the same way. They won't all be banned from FA... right... right?!?!
I hope in one of your updates you guys can come up with a better way for us to advertise things like commission openings (since I'm assuming this falls under the description of "goods") - I notice that many users will just nuke journals without even reading the titles, so its not the most effective way to advertise being open without posting several journals per day. Since moving to a purely visual way of advertising commissions being open, I've had much better response, but its kind of annoying to have to design a brand new advertisement every single day until all slots have been filled because I'm not allowed to simply delete the submission and repost it. We are visual creatures here, words in a journal just don't seem to catch the eye as much as a bright, colorful submission does. :/
Granted, I haven't had to for a few months, however, it is something that I prefer to be able to fall back on if ever need be.
Since this is so limiting to artists who conduct business in this manner, could it be suggested that there instead be a 48 or 72hr limit between re-advertising with it being mandatory that the previous post be deleted before the new one is posted instead of it being completely restricted? This would greatly limit the flooding immensely while also leaving it as an option for artists to advertise visually on the site to help indeed advertise and sell their slots?
I only suggest this because there is a time limit in place for streamers so it may be fitting also for advertisements of this nature as well. If nothing else, until something more fitting is put into place.
I love it.
- Only 10 active announcements at a time (would require the person to delete old ones before making new ones)
- time limit of 24 hours between announcements
- only 10 announcement credits a month (would top off every month but don't go higher)
Of course you could change the numbers or come up with other limits if you wanted, but I think this idea would provide a balanced and flexible compromise that could work for people who are doing a lot of selling here.
Oops, a bit of a typo there!
This appears to be the only reference to YCH in the documents, and it's not immediately clear what changed.
it's not spammy if it's 1 a day.
and it bothers me.
...what does this have to do with anything?
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fi.....finity-filter/
Well, apparently it happened, prepare for my beautiful minecraft desert city!
Anyhow, if you allow posting of minecraft screenshots of things "you created", you're going to get a flood of "I created this" posts all of minecraft all over the site, and then an even larger flood of "this guy stole this from me" trouble tickets. Let people post game screenshots on a game screenshot site, and keep this for fur related things.
Just my thoughts is all.
I'm assuming this rule means no raw carcasses. Raw, skinned pelts would be fine, though, since the pelt is going to be kept.
It's very confusing. XD
Also, I'm now watching you >.> because yay taxidermy stuff.
Why wouldn't you if you're gonna upload to a site thats gonna kill the quality ANYWAY?
Why even bother?
I have to make an extra effort to convert to MP3 since the DAW I use only saves .WAV / AIFF. Good thing I have bandcamp I guess.
If they say it supports .wav on the submission page, then why doesn't it.
Get a better DAW.
What the hell are you using anyway?
Shouldn't there be a PLUGIN for that, you know? Things like Ableton usually have plugins for that sort of thing.
Too late for me to change. I've already got used to the one i'm using.
I don't even know what to say. I feel bad for you.
Besides tho; for the reasons in my response to fender, uploading music here isn't the best plan anyway. :/
Mind sending me your bandcamp btw? I love to hear new music!
http://creaturefromsaturnrecords.ba.....ate-dry-planet
I'm a huuuuge fan of ambient and experimental stuff!
http://yatagarasuinflight.bandcamp......um/springlight
Shameless plug for my own bandcamp haha
A lot, those drums are sweet.
I like your pads a lot.
A little bit of clipping at points, you could work on your levelling.
I'll prolly toss you some dolla sometime if I get a chance.
Keep up the good work k?
Thanks for the support, it means a lot!
Also the 10 mb limit requires us to export everything at 128kbps or less, 64kbps for a long song.
The audioplayer has always been broken and is completely ignored in favour of other artforms which are universally treated as superior.
This has been a problem since the beginning, continues to be, always will continue to be.
Don't act like your system isn't riddled with issues.
It does have an effect on the quality a good 60% of the time, if the low bitrate hasn't already castrated the sound quality.
once, i did one with reminders and actually had bidders
the other time, i put it up with no reminders, and had no bidders at all.
Noone reads the journals i put up about them or my journals in general anyway
That would be my response, honestly
Peple often put adult titles and contents to journals - which are general audience. It's an issue actually... for minors using the site and for adults who don't want to see/read about sexual things at all...
Um, I've no idea how your reply is relevant to my suggestion.
And if anyone is disrespectful here it's yourself if you haven't noticed.
Please, next time make sure if you understood well before you rage and attack someone who meant no harm to anyone.
Ah, and I guess you misunderstood what I meant by 'rating'. I don't mean 'rate 1 to 10 stars' BUT I meant 'general audience/mature content/adult content rating' like those of gallery submissions.
Great to hear!
I can't wait to say goodbye to seing such journal titles. BTW I hope there'll be some way to clear them without seeing their titles?^^
I'm sorry for bothering you but you know, it's been 2 years and it's still not a thing^^;
It's like literature, literature IS RATED. And maybe a 13-year-old shouldn't see things like 'win a fucking hot night with two horny stag whores all covered with cum and shoting from their slimy fat dicks'... sorry but too many people put so inapropiate things and details in their journal titles and content, it's a harmful plague if it's visible for everyone... Also, I've noticed general audience submissions rarely have horny comments.
It's not actually an Internet censorship, it's simply asking for a minimum of respect for those who mustn't see these because of being under-age or who for some reason don't want to be simply not making them see these. And when I clear journal entries from the message box, I am forced to see the titles, some very offensively inappropiate to be considered general audience.
If I wanted to censor the Internet, I'd fight to forbid posting such journals and contents at all, not trying to make them appropiately rated.
As for people not wanting to see some stuff in titles and journal contents, I can understand it. I've never taken offense to as little as a journal title myself, and it's a concept that makes less sense to me also. But I guess I'm simply just not as perceptive, and I don't want to disregard more sensitive people due to that... so I don't wish to talk for others in this case. Hopefully a good and fair idea can be found to solve the problem.
These are the absolute best actual uses of a theoretical Adult journal.
Ask Me Anything. #TMItuesday. Those messed up open roleplay journals.
You can opt into reading people's journals like this, or just completely ignore them. The real benefit of general/mature/adult isn't for kids, its for users who are actually not interested in adult content.
Obviously you can do this already by just tagging [adult] but there isn't an in-place, codified system for it yet, so one person's [adult] might be sexy pillow whispers and another person's [adult] might involve Akira-style gut-bursting inflation. Its not exactly something I think the site need-needs but I can see the benefits if its easy to implement.
I was 13: I was already browsing furry porn.
Almost all the brats in my highschool were having sex.
This under-age bullshit is out-dated as much as the christian fible is; but the idiots in power are too stupid and old to change it; AND, people who still believe "children"/teenagers are all frickin innocent need to get a reality check.
"If someone wants their kids to not watch porn, solve the issue at home and in the family. There's software to block NSFW websites, which works locally like it should."
And I agree with this entirely! :D Well... kinda... I don't see why people shun porn and nudity away so damn much.. it's natural! D:<
But anyway, sorry if I seemed to come across as attacking you personally~ That wasn't the intention; tis aimed more at that other persons post. :3
In my case, I was watching / RP-ing all sorts of furry porn since I was 16 and found out about the fandom. Both at that age as well as today after nearly a decade, I was / am unable to understand why on Earth someone thought I'm in some danger.
Like you just said nicely, this does look a lot like a fixated belief... similar to religion. Difference is that religion is no longer obligatory, while in this case some people claim there are some laws left around dark corners of the US that can get you in trouble if you don't censor porn based on age. Whether this is really the case or just a myth I'm not sure. Rest assured, all NSFW works I might create and post in the future will be explicitly free of what I still label as "age discrimination" and for everyone to view at their own choice (of course without breaking the TOS of any website, meaning this doesn't apply to FA).
If I remember right (and I'm probably not, rofl), I was around 15/16 when I first signed up for FA, and I lied about my age, just so I could access the yiff. I need to see what dark areas exist in this stupid country I currently reside in (UK), but I'd probably just piss myself off from all the stupidity in it. :/
I definitely agree about the age discrimination. I always loved sites that just had a front page "18+ only, enter / leave"; just so their ass is covered~ :P
What I'd love to know however, if an over-censored parent would jump in-front of their precious bubble-wrapped child and cover their eyes if there's a nude statue with a penis on it in the street~ :P
I didn't read shiiiiiit.
I saw a terrible fetish journal in which the author posted a graphic fetish story (involving NSFW features and even character death), and I was able to see it as a minor because they had posted it in a public area with no warning (no reference to its nature in the title).
Yeah, that's one of the reasons - people don't care and don't even put a warning in most of cases, instead they put explicit titles.
Back to SoFurry I go.
Fuck this horrid Earth and 95% of its inhabitants.
Being a minor is legally being underage up to a federal law which is under 18 years old.
byebye
go get a bottle and a nap.
64-bit-chu on July 9th, 2014 11:02 wrote:That's it. That right there is the breaking point. You called me a "minor" and demonstrated blind obedience. I'm deactivating now.
Fuck this horrid Earth and 95% of its inhabitants.
Please point out to me where Fender called you a 'minor'? Because I can't see it. Nor can I see any implication or assumption on his part that you're a minor. He pointed out that US federal law - and, just in case you were unsure, Canadian federal law, UK law, Australian law, just to name a few - require that "adult" (meaning explicitly sexual) material not be available to those who are not legally of age. You may not like it, in which case the proper course is to agitate for change through government.
This is, of course, something I suspect you know perfectly well, so I can only speculate that you have other reasons for affecting an injured demeanor here.
Quit crying over minor things, minor.
Oh, yeah. I came here to laugh at you.
- Fridrich Murrche
Didn't dabble in "adult" stuff until I was 18. There's no rush.
Get fucked.
As I said earlier, go fuck yourself. Little minor.
And those websites still give age warnings :)
Someone below in comments links to a chart showing the proportion.

So while there is adult art, it's not exclusively a "porn site" (in your comment I originally replied to.)
Some artists just post a lot of adult art. (It also seems different times of day make a difference on what shows up on the front page.)
LOL
but no, it is a fair rule because there are alot of adults in here that can mistreat underage users and at the end harass them and then blame on parenting.
13 years old is an age that you start become responcible
pretty much
If that's true, they should be reported to the police and taken care of.
Where are the parents in this f*** up age of the Internet I ask???
I do apologize, but the way it is stated simply seems a bit vague, and with a number of folks trying to claim 3D artwork isnt art, I just wanted to be sure those that do such works have clear guidelines.
yay, no more feral cub porn.
:<
If I recall it started whenever the feature to change your thumbnail size was implemented. Flash and written files still seem to work alright, but thumbnails for ordinary images don't work unless they're on a user's page, not when browsing the inbox or favorites or gallery or anything. Pretty sure the FA front page also doesn't display them. :S
It's kind of laughing stock to me, because I can just delete and hide comments, but I the "hidden comment" clutter just looks bad on submissions and that's probably the only thing I'm tired of.
Is there ways the moderation would take care of recurring harassment and spam in the future?
Last time it was taken care of, but he only received a temp ban. Basically what this person does to the site is using up a hell lot of names and space just to leave harrassment.
But I have a question, how will you go on about someone having made 50+ accounts that take up decent names and space for 1-2 comments of harrassment? Shouldn't they be deleted?
General

Sexual Situations: Free of any sexual themes with exception to brief displays of affection, such as a kiss or hug.
Violence: May contain mild, comedic, fantasy, or realistic violence, but may not be gory, pervasive, or sexual in nature.
Drug Use: Free of any drug abuse. Moderate consumption of alcohol or tobacco by adults, including responsible use of medications is acceptable.
Might want to either re-think or have some sort of filter or option to tag your page as NSFW. 80% of FA has butt icons that may break the underlined rule, and I don't think it is entirely fair to enforce this rule, especially since you would be treating Adults like Children and that isn't at all what we came here to be treated as.
I have learned that, just like in school, there are things you should not speak of and those TWO things are Religion and Politics. xD
So I suppose the feeling is mutual.~
If it isn't safe for work, I don't feel that it should have a 'general' rating.
Instead I still have to tiptoe around edgy borderliners.
Trust me, I was that child once. xD

And I am amused at so many people thinking this is FA coming up with these rules. These are the type of rules held by Corporate America for 'reasons to fire someone from work if they ever have these things on their monitor' -- I had one job fire me for wearing, with casual clothing, cartoon nudity by Blotch (Oklacon 5 t-shirt, I think). Sooooo yeah, this is for other users' protection because FA is a multi-purposed public site, not explicitly a porn site.
I still don't quite understand the YCH/Auction addition. It doesn't seem like it changed much? Basically, if we're not allowed to upload the exact same thing, but a semi-completed YCH/Auction? Would a cropped image be acceptable?
I just want to help the community any way I can. I want to volunteer my time!
Even if I would only be allowed to help out with the small tickets, that would be an honor for me.
And all the good mods have stepped down over the years, so its just bleh. we need more kind-hearted people willing to read tickets, do research on people involved in harassment cases, and make logical educated decisions and actions regarding them.
In the times that I have dealt with him, he's always been nice and explained things when needed.
there's lots you have to do all the time, hardware, software, updates, etc. not to mention the users themselves, keeping people under control cause no one will ever always get along with everyone else. he helped me out when I first joined years ago by posting my ad banner for me free of charge, and I never forgot that. i
I can't draw well, I comment as much as I can and buy art... but I still want to help out more.
I know the Trouble Tickets are backed up and I still am waiting on 1 or a few, (can't remember now)...
I want to make a difference even if just by a tiny bit.
You keep pushing me away guys.
Oh and Male nipples are fine but not female ones.
Fuck this I'm so tired of all this bullshit.
WHY DONT YOU, ACTUALLY FIX SOME PROBLEMS FOR ONCE. HOW DO YOU EVEN SURVIVE?
Its ok for guys to walk shirtless, but once a female does, everybody loses their mind.
You know. For artists.
Where artists post things. Sometimes provacative things.
I'm gonna blame FA because they're perpetuating it; and they don't have to.
Cause of artiiistic nuuudiiityyy
Photos of cocks.
For AGES.
So you are paying MORE than 10 bucks :P
You are welcome
And we agree that the nipples policy is odd, but it's a social and legal one. Male nipples are considered harmless, female nipples can bring down society. We're not sure why. We don't personally agree with it, but we are complying with standards.
And its a paper thin argument as it is.
Its sexist out and out and whether you say you agree with it or not your compliance with it is the same.
Inaction is often the same as action; because it is still a choice and we can sit and muse and pretend all day that its okay.
But its not.
If it turns the majority on, it's a sexual organ. They can cause a release of hormones in men for sex.
It seems fine to me, fair enough if your breast feeding, but generally, they are used for sexual things. I have tits too, I see my own parts as sexual. I dunno I guess I don't get the hassle of it.
Footfetish.jpg
There's no reason for the extra classification, they've even said it themselves that there's no REAL reason to do it that way.
Breasts are a thing from the beginning of us, in society, to show we could breed and feed our children, to lure males.
It's not the same for male nipples, their allure would be with their muscles and 'bulge'. We each have our own historical sexual things.
I think it's fair not to show sexual things.
Although if it were me the icons would be WAYYY more strict then they are now. No bouncing boobs, shaking ass.
Like your browsing at a library.
There are societies were women walk around shirtless and aren't being fondled. That right there should tell you that breasts aren't for sex! They're just an added perk like your butthole.
different cultures different things. My mother tells me the muslim culture finds hair on the head extremely beautiful and is a sexual thing, which is one reason they cover it.
its gone past the whole its just for babies. It isnt anymore. You can't compare all countries to one another.
Ear fetishes and stuff are kinda niche and dont really have that much of a social impact to cause them to be considered sexual organs just yet. (sure in your own circles they may just be though. which is totally cool.) Western society has evolved, and some things aren't the same. People wont stay the same throughout history.
The tribes you see with tits out aren't part of the culture most people on here are based, and even then, there are tribes that are opposite of that. It just depends where your from and what floats your boat I guess, but there is reasoning behind peoples decisions most of the time.
Honestly I think sfw should be things that you can view in front of children. then ratings go up from there.
The only reason why it's like that in general, though, is because people were forced to be all 'god fearing' about it. And in the case of America, our Puritanical origins don't help much.
Seriously though, seeing a pair nude, female breasts, isn't going to psychologically scar a child. :| Especially if it's thought of and considered normal, instead of thought of and considered wrong and taboo, and something indecent.
I'm speaking western, as in where FA is based.
Yeah it won't scar a child, if they grow up with it. Then to them it's normal.
Most of us didn't grow up like that, and it's taboo to show them because it's a sex thing or whatever.
that's just how it is and hopefully it can change in the future. But pushing it wont help any.
... Actually, I think there's still religions like that, where the woman cannot show her breasts or vag even when she's having sex. Or something. It's kinda weird.
It won't scar a child in general. A child isn't horrified if they see a pair of boobs. At the most they'll be curious.
I never was, and I did see my mother's breasts a couple of times as a child.
Not because she was showing them off, mind. But I didn't go "OH MY POOR FRAGILE MIND, I SHALL NEVER BE THE SAME."
If we want to talk things that royally fucked me up and my perceptions of a lot of things, I'll tell you now it wasn't seeing boobs as a child. lol
It was a lot worse...
Female breasts aren't literally sexual though. One can manipulate male or female breasts during intercourse, and either will elicit reactions. However, that does not mean that either are literally sexual. I mean, if we were going by that coin, then both should be considered sexual because both can be manipulated to induce a sexual response. :|
And technically pushing is needed. Not forceful, ream your ass type pushing, but pushing is usually how one reaches some sort of progress.
It's just best not to attack and maim everyone around you with differing opinions as you attempt to push for equality, or your agenda.
Something Tumblr SJW can't seem to get through their thick heads.
I just grew up different, plus, im kinda fucked up from sexual abuse so i see things differently.
i do consider both breasts to be 'indecent' as you say. but im talking workplace and public browsing here. as in whats considered SFW. I dont think they are wrong or taboo, just not something you flash constantly.
By a male cousin, and by my step-dad... :| The latter of which was years in the happening before I finally said anything. Hahaha. B|
Well, I don't really consider both to be overly indecent?
Haha, but you probably shouldn't really be looking at either at work. lulz.
Unless your work literally has to do with people being shirtless. Then that's entirely different.
Well, yeah. One shouldn't just be exposing parts of their body randomly to be titillating. lulz That's just... no.
I like being titillated and all, but srsly.
Otherwise eh, do what you want.
I wasn't fucked up by family or nothin', was a couple of times and I was really young, so I don't remember a lot. Then there's just bad relationships. So like I said, I guess my views are a bit different from that, being introduced to it way too young.
But, no, I feel you. For me it was from about 9 years old to 14/15 years old, as far as the sexual abuse goes. :/ I wish neither of us had to go through any of that, though.
It's just sucky.
I mean, you poop from your butt, but theres the prostate for men isnt there?
I say if it gets you hot (or the majority in your society) its nsfw.
I dunno, I just think that as a whole breasts aren't just what we used them for in the past, since us humans have become more sexual in nature, even if not everywhere. Seeing as FA is 'merica based, and most of society there is still seeing breasts as naughty bits (whether defined by religion or culture) I can see why it's sfw.
I guess its a personal thing for everyone. I find them sexual, and reproductive. As with butts. Probably anything you wouldn't view in front of a kinder-gardener or small child. (to avoid questions)
sometimes i am REALLY bad with what i mean to say.
i didnt mean to sound like my opinion was the one and only.
I understand the difference, yet, they are still the same body part. The fact you cant use mens chests for other things...is well, beside the point. I've wseen plenty of chicks get hot over a nekkid man chest, so who knows? Maybe shirtlessness for men will be banned soon.
Otherwise, FA doesn't really have the resources to make a stand on an issue like that. Since it's something encoded in various obscenity laws, harm to minors laws, etc. etc., you'd have to address it with either the courts or the legislature, which is expensive.
Call me crazy but there might be some bias going on here.
FEMALE NIPPLES CAN BRING DOWN SOCIETYgod forbid we see female nipples on a pornographic site
Are you really going to refute someone who can literally just navigate to a page and see a percentage breakdown of uploads' ratings? I mean, if a single person's perception was what flew for the truth, the world would still be flat, cuz I haven't ever seen it curve.
80%
What staff?
Watersports, babyfur(ADULT) ??, Sonic, Pregnancy, bondage, and of course if you can't find what you're looking for there, there's always Fetish other.
There are many more options browsing in adult then there are in general.
I don't understand when people claim it's not a porn site, when clearly, it's primarily supported with these categories.
Why is there an SFW button?
Some users have NSFW content enabled by default, for home viewing.
Some of those users occasionally visit the site in a public location, or even at work in order to keep in contact with friends and commenters.
These users wanted an easy way to switch to temporarily block the adult content from showing.
The SFW button was made.
Using the SFW button allows public viewing of the site for those who don't personally have an issue with nudity but are employed with a company who certainly does, or are in a cafe or other public area and are being respectful of others around them.
Bottom line: LAWS!
I, for one, come here to view quality artwork and haven't found anything 'fapworthy' in a long time. I enjoy artistic nudes, even artistic romance, but avoid much of the 'adult' side of the site. I like that mature artwork is allowed, and accept that tacky oversexed fetishy pronz comes along for the ride when allowing delicate artistic pieces of quality.
Anyway, you're refusing to see the root of the problem. In this ruling it is not an FA problem but a societal one and it's laws. Is it a sexist idea, sure (and hell as a red blooded straight guy, the idea of seeing female nipples isn't something I'd be against, but I'm also a pragmatic rational thinking that understands why FA is making that ruling, not out of want, but out of necessity for the site to keep running due to all the laws they gotta go through.) To allow true human nudity and not drawn nudity would put the site into a whole other category that they d have to deal with probably when it comes to internet pay sites and regulations.
Again, yeah, it's sexists, but yes, I don't necessarily blame FA for this one. It's society's fault (Primarily that of the US. Don't like it? Encourage representatives to change the laws).
dA has the option of hiding mature rated art and hiding 18+. Does that make it a porn site?
Am I missing something here?
massive lie
this is from july 2011, so slightly outdated, but heres upload statistics for FA showing the vast majority being general: https://forums.furaffinity.net/thre.....July-7-2011%29
question for Fender: would it be possible to make an updated stats post like that at some point? i didnt find anything more recent than that one and itd be interesting to see how its changed over the last two years
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/13293229
Total pixels: 13,293,600
General: 7,149,922
Mature: 1,005,166
Adult: 1,182,577
Deleted: 3,955,935
The general submissions outnumber all the mature and adult together, by more than three to one. This is most definitely NOT a porn site. It would be like calling public libraries porn sites, just because they happen to have adult books in their mix. Some people obviously use FA as a porn site, just as some people go to the library to look for porn. The vast majority come here because it's a great art site. Many don't look for the porn at all.
Here are the submission trends since the site started. There is a link from there to a 1:1 ratio image. It clearly shows that there are more general submissions each day than all of the adult, mature and deleted combined.
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/13293514
Think of what you just said, please. If 80% is mature/artistic nudity, I'd believe you. If you're saying that 80% is G rated content...yeah, no. Stop.
Apparently female nipples can bring down society by shooting tittybeams or some shit...
Its the same old shit.
Do you guys think you could at least put a few words in about it being what could be classified as "female nipples", rather than just saying anyone with boobs who has nipples exposed is by default female? It may not seem that important, but a tiny side-note would go a long way for FtM and nonbinary/intersex people.
Are there actually places IRL that don't differentiate the two? I have yet to see one.
San Fran is one, its fine in Canada too.
Society deems it amoral cause "women are inferior" and are not allowed to express any form of sexuality.
That's what its about.
Which is not at all true, but we all can't have an IQ over 70 I suppose.
Also I want add some more specieses like elephants; then edentata/xenarthra like anteaters, armadillos, aardvarks, pangolins and sloths; and separate orcas from other whales
DRAGONEER YOU ARE THE WORST OF PEOPLE /s
Well excuse me but last I checked titties arent allowed to go walking around in pretty much any 1st or 3rd world country except idk? Africa???
And FA, being an AMERICAN based site has to adhere to american rules. And while we have a few states with 'nudie' beaches, FA is not a beach...And frankly theres a big difference between people walking around nude and the giant 5evercumming dicknipples of FA.
It's not about equal standards imo, it's about what you'd expect out in society. And pretty much everywhere I've ever been, male toplessness is considered decent enough whereas female toplessness is bound to raise problems.
Now a DUDE with tits, I'd assume would be in the same category of 'thats not okay man' under general audience submissions.
Modern countries = showing nipples and balls is bad
Some tribes= showing nipples and balls is a sign that you are a mature adult and you can survive.
they probably don't even know what an internet is
and they aren't in the land of USA, UK, or EU.
even in eu, where nudity is more flexible, you dont see people walking around naked in the city street.
Instead of taking time to respond to actual problems or fix actual issues with the site, the owners and mods continue to pretend nothing is wrong, add something new into the Nono list, everyone floods out of the site like a bleeding hernia.
Im just sick and tired of seeing things like this perpetuated consistantly again, and again, and again, and again.
Its all or nothing, either no nipples. or all nipples don't fucking wish wash. Don't be sexist.
The entire 1st world follows these rules. Russia, america, canada, england, turkey, romania, greece, ALL of the middle east, ALL of south america save for native tribes who never even see outsiders in their entire lives.
so calm the hell down. its not sexist in the least.
Please. Cause I'm not sure what it means on your planet.
Granted, this applies to men as well, and really, due to SOCIAL STANDARDS, females are not allowed to expose their breasts. I wouldn't blatantly claim that sexism is the only thing to do with this, hell I don't even think its the MAIN reasoning behind it. Most likely a slight percentage of it. You also have to take into account Religion as well, being that before modern days of the internet and the like, nudity, and even being openly sexual in general, was frowned upon, and pretty much still is.
It's a mish-mash of catch-22 scenarios here. Rather hard to actually come to an agreement on being as no one will ever agree on anything it seems.
though I highly doubt your intelligent comment will do any good.
Peple who want to shout sexism and hate and prejudice will do it, no matter what the other facts say otherwise.
This is just be being logical and stating the facts.
But the point in the end is they didn't have to make that the core of their aup.
Which is what they have, they have brilliantly and intentionally forefronted that male nips are ok and not female nips.
The solution is simple. Just; no nipples its not that hard.
Its general why do you need them anyway?
Anyway.
And again, showing male nipples, by society standards, is in no way illegal to society's laws.
You are nitpicking the subject here, which shows ignorance on your part.
Go ahead. Let it happen. Your apathy is why we're even having this discussion at all.
They don't HAVE to list that specifically.
It just feels, from how you are defending yourself, that you are butt hurt that you can't see nipps now in general submissions.
Women weren't allowed to vote. That was enforced.
Was it right?
Gay Bi and Trans people are "not worth the same" as straight people. That's pretty much been enforced for the last god knows how long.
Is that right?
People who weren't white weren't allowed to eat in the same restaurants as people who were, and were generally treated as non entities and systematically opressed.
Is that right?
Get off your high horse you don't know what you're talking about.
FA has ENOUGH problems without people like you trying to ruin everything on the face of the planet and turn it into an anti-white anti-gay anti whatever argument.
its low, its petty, fucking stop.
FA has to adhere to the UNITED STATES LAWS IN PLACE, if YOU dont like it, go to college for 8 years, get a seat in the senate and open some fucking bills to let women flounce their boobs around.
Its low and petty that they've even BROUGHT IT UP.
Clean? Drop the nipples thats it end of story end of problem.
They specifically brought it up themselves.
This is about sexism.
Thats what its about.
Don't pretend its not.
You misunderstand; I'm not butthurt about the nipples at all.
I don't even Like nipples?
No honestly I don't give a shit.
Thats not the point. It never has been the point.
The point is their specificity that doesn't need to exist.
Like I said before No Nips or All nips.
Don't wish wash, don't flip flop.
Its a general submission; you don't need Nipples at all!
This is my last comment.
But it is against US law they're following. Yes it looks bad they do, but if they want to follow US law then let them. You don't have to like it.
this site is lbgt more than it is strait so i do believe men should at least have their nips concealed too if we are gonna prude the hell out of women. it should at least be a cleavage rule of some sort and not a nipple rule. if you got enough cleavage to fit a pen in then it is too much and should be covered.
i dont think im being unreasonable here.
We women CANNOT go around topless without ANY sort of means to cover our chests because it is AGAINST the LAW. We will get ARRESTED for INDECENT EXPOSURE.
Ya know what, this isn't sexism at all now that I read this comment.
Its all legal matters in the modern age.
and moreso women with 'gifted' chests. aka size c, d, dd, e, f, g, etc!
these things are only really 'ok' at pride parades and mardi gras and such like that, but even still most women will do body paint so they arent completely exposed.
I dont hink putting a 'mature flag' on a picture that is considered a tasteful nude is sexist at all, in fact the rule would apply to flaccid males as well. People need to not be so upset about things out of their control. A website has to adhere to the laws of the country they are based out of, they have NO CHOICE. It's either adhere to the law, or base out of a different country, or watch as the FBI replaces your website with a stamp saying 'website taken over by fbi for violating usa laws bla bla'
All this hate over "No nipple outlines/Blatant dick bulges" is a little over reacting on the parts of those whom are involved.
people should give it a rest, and if they really are that upset there's always weasyl
but hey before you check that door, weasyl marks EVERYTHING as explicit which contains a penis, a vadge, a tasteful nude, or a sexy non-banging scene.
by standards, FA is actually really chill.
And I'm done with that person. I've got better things to do today than to argue the fact that I get the impression he's just basically butt hurt that he can't see nipps in general images now.
has to be on a beach or in a specific designated 'topless area'
Its a new thing for me to see for sure.
I dont want to see other peoples naked bodies irl, I mean art and furry that doesnt bother me, but I just have little to no interest in random saggy boobs or wrinkly balls X'D
but i mean its nice that their at least being fair to nipples are just nipples and not sex organs no matter the gender
And I'm with Meep, in that it's nice that they aren't considering nipples to be sexual organs in general. 8| But then, as a girl-bodied individual, I've never understood why it's okay for men to be topless, but for women it's absolutely terrible.
(I mean I get the indecent exposure bit, but to me it's always been "If a man can do it, technically a woman should be able to as well")
my ribbss
Net-cat has been known to make changes and fixes for various things, and possibly does more behind the scene work. Carenath has done this in the past as well, but I have no idea how active he is anymore. Dragoneer obviously doesn't do any changes, but he has full access to the server, including the hardware, so there is no way he has no access to the source code.
Lets just leave it at this: Yak is an incompetent tool who has no idea what he is doing. I'm willing to place a bet that the ONLY reason he is still on the FA team is because he blackmailed Dragoneer by threatening to reveal the shitty FA source code. I'm also willing to bet that he gets the boot if (very big if) Project Phoenix ever becomes a reality.
Folders as the definition you're thinking of are not yet a thing.
"Folders are not implemented - yet. We are laying down the groundwork. "
and idk if thats surprising :I
I enjoy it much so!
I can post as many YCHs, Auctions, Adoptables, etc as I want to my main gallery as long as they are all for different things. I can also post reminders for said things but they must be uploaded to my scraps.
Correct?
And also don't forget the clause saying it's not okay to delete one of these things and repost it to try and adhere to the "one post only" rule.
like moving a large amount of gallery submissions to scraps, insead of one at a time?
check off however many you wanna scrap, hit submit, done
when you're submitting things now its already a checkbox for the scraps gallery...
just need a way to manage them like that.
owo
does this apply to only streaming movies or playing music on the stream or does it still apply when the artist has the movie on the side or the music on while drawing?
- Seizure inducing content: So users will no longer be allowed to upload animations of rainbows or rapidly changing colors because people in *gasp* real life cannot protect themselves from a screen? Great... that's the last thing that was missing.
- Photos of copyright content: If someone takes a picture in which a painting of another user's art is on a wall, that is also considered art theft now? Sounds a lot like when Youtube sued people for uploading themselves singing the Happy Birthday song. Also sounds like any pictures from furcons (eg: AC) will disappear, because of all the shirts and stuff people will be wearing and which will be inevitably photographed.
- Character generators: Ok, I actually understand this rule applying to character generators that have copyright sprites which themselves are indeed not okay to post without permission. But what about freely licensed character generators? Are images from character creators only being banned when copyright issues exist, or are all character generators being forbidden because someone suddenly hates those? If it's the first then this is okay IMO... if it's the second then no comment.
I hope someone can actually clarify me on these points. Right now I'm between disappointed and pissed... but it's happened in the past to misunderstand some new rules, so I'll keep from making further comments on some changes for now.
1. Epilepsy warning, bro. Even if you don't have a medical condition that causes you to have physical problems viewing rapidly-flashing material, its still physically painful to everyone who isn't an assassin droid.
2. This scenario is stupid and I hope you don't actually believe this is an issue. This is like opposing the idea of a criminal justice system because you could maybe go to court for jaywalking.
3. If your "art" is generated by hitting a single button on a flash form its probably not very interesting or unique.
While you said you weren't interested in the cub thing, I'll break that down for you really fast. All moral issues aside, what FA does, payment sites don't like. They've gone through 3-4 already. The current payment site, the one that helps people fund the site, is not down with "cub art" since they legally view it as something they don't want to handle money for. Your choices are currently "cub art" or "no site." If you'd like to start sending massive checks directly to Dragoneer you probably could, but you're better off just taking your outrage to Inkbunny, who solved the problem in some mysterious manner I don't fully understand. Hope that helps.
2. Actually, seeing how extremely some FA rule makers seem to take some things, I worry it can be a realistic scenario. In my room for example, I have photos in frames containing furry art from various artists. If this rule is true the way I understand it, I can never post any photo from my room on this site again... unless I put rags all over my walls to cover the paintings, because otherwise I'm doing art theft. That's absolutely crazy, and I hope you're right and my understanding of this rule is stupid.
3. If there's now a requirement for art to be interesting and unique, my point that there's a censorship craze behind FA is proven even more right. I understand that copying a character or using copyright sprites is wrong... but generators are bad now because they don't make characters unique enough? Maybe we should also ban art containing simple characters, and only allow pictures of fancy characters with a lot of distinctive patterns. You know... "to be sure it's not stolen TM".
And I hope someday FA spies and researchers will discover this mysterious manner Inkbunny uses, inexplicable for so many years. Otherwise I'm not either a fan nor hater of cub art... age makes nearly no difference to me for characters in art. I am however interested in the idea that art can be banned on a website because some people can't get over themselves and leave their personal likes / dislikes at the door when they should. And no, this isn't necessarily addressed at FA unless it's the case... but also at payment providers who are expected to be serious people who aren't offended by a little drawing. Funny enough, this category of art being censored on such dumb principles is actually making me a fan of cub porn indirectly... simply because of how some people react toward it.
2. A code of law is only as good as the people who agree to be governed by it, and the people they agree to enforce it. If a code of law is enforced in a way you don't like, you have the right and perhaps the duty to find somewhere that suits you better.
3. You miss my point. Generator art, for the most part, is indistinguishable from one another. A generated Sonic OC is the same as another generated Sonic OC, with a different hat. A generated Pony OC is the same as every other generated Pony OC. If every art site had the same rules as FA, sure, that would be irritating, but Deviantart is already stuffed to the brim with generated art. Use Deviantart for your flash template needs.
I'm sorry if I'm being stubborn though... but again, I don't understand the concept of babysitting someone through a computer screen, and having to seriously consider how a piece of art can make random strangers feel IRL. Of course I'm not talking about people acting badly on chats, nor using art to purposely annoy someone... I do encourage everyone to be nice typically. I just strongly go by the idea "if you don't like it don't watch, and if you happened to watch something you didn't like move on... it's not like someone physically slapped you in the face". And, on the other side, strongly with the idea that art is something that should be free.
And I have to agree on the other art site point. Only problem is that, using a bunch of art sites at once can be annoying. Like, you have to use FA for what DA and Inkbunny don't accept, then Inkbunny for what FA and DA don't accept, etc. Not everyone who watches you is registered and active on all those sites either. So personally, I would think it benefits everyone if all those websites were more lax, and only had strictly essential rules rather than poking into silly things like how big the bulges in a character's pants are.
For example, the avatar changes are basically there because General Only and SFW mode, features intended so that users can use FA without socially inappropriate content in a semi-public setting, cannot cover avatars. There's no "moral basis", and while I'm not his mouthpiece, I can guarantee that Dragoneer truly doesn't personally give a shit what you look at in a given day. It really is just to keep General Only and SFW mode going. While you could make a case for "don't look at the porno" and "don't browse FA outside of your nerd cave bedroom," 80% of the site is actually not "mature." You can get a long way with the mature and adult filters off, and if avatars all conform to the same guidelines you can get even further. An alternative would have been tagging avatars as mature or adult. They chose not to go with that.
Essentially what you're looking at is less "censorship" and more "asking a vocal 20% to please stay on their side of the lines that they agreed to when they signed up."
I admit the whole nipples / bulges / etc thing might qualify here. Since if they're not included by "SFW mode", browsing FA publicly can still get you into trouble. For this purpose I must agree I guess. Only problem is if the reasons behind putting stricter rules on it is people being so sensitive they can't handle seeing some nudity, or thinking it will do some evil voodoo to people under the magical number of 18 years of age. Nothing against those who are sensitive like that BTW, I do believe they should be considered also... just that maybe a system based on a better concept of personal choice could exist, and perhaps filtering categories could be extended to a more complete system entirely.
These changes aren't designed to protect kiddies from boobs by hiding the boobs. They're designed to convenience people who are bored of boobs by hiding the boobs.
But only a few of the FA rules are necessary due to real life laws that spread as far as the internet. And apart from copyright, none of them apply to art generally... since thankfully we stopped living in an era where any art can be considered a crime (except in a few countries). Only potential real life related problem is the donation provider issue, which FA cannot solve despite other websites like Inkbunny having been able to.
That is the real life issue. FA is not a cyberspace entity it is something that actually exists somewhere and thus the admin have to implement reasonable CYA measures to protect themselves, regardless if they are popular with a YOLO mentality or not.
It's really not a difficult thing to understand when you think of the context of they why they are doing what they are doing in regards to legal things. I usually find those who support a "free internet" rarely have true skin in the game to make it so.
Yes, I'm aware that websites are hosted on real servers of course. Some in countries where, unfortunately, exaggerated real life laws are taken to the internet at times. I never denied that, but I'm only looking at cases where this can apply here.
As for wanting to change the game, the most I can say I've done protest wise was three years ago when a bunch of psychopaths thought they can just walk in and shut down the internet (the SOPA / PIPA / ACTA thing). Beyond that, I'm trying to become a better programmer for several reasons... one being to create a system on top of the current internet infrastructure that can facilitate anonymous hosting and make censorship harder or impossible. Obviously that's just a dream, doesn't mean I'll really ever succeed, but yeah.
So ok... my idea can also be wrong if taken to the absolute extreme. Still, I'm less afraid of people using anonimity to attack me (verbally in posts, etc) than I am of some crazy politician or group getting to power and trying to pass something like SOPA again. For example I heard that recently, Japan has involved to banning uncensored NSFW images on the internet altogether... so much for my view of them as one of the most advanced and civilized countries. I also tend to go by the view that "if something bad happened to a little thing, it will soon happen for even more things", which of course is also due to pessimism but yeah.
Just.
"No Nipples"
Cause its clean. You don't need nipples.
Nipples are no less sexual on a man.
So drop the sexist Bull, and do your job properly for once.
Men are allowed to walk in public without a shirt. No consequence.
Women are not allowed to walk without a shirt, or something covering their top half. It's public indecency.
I mean, I can see that is does sound better to simply put "no nipples" in general. But male nipples aren't particularly viewed as sexual unless made to be or look that way.
Did you ever think for a second WHY women are restricted? Or why men aren't?
No. Don't even start I've already been over it.
Its one way or the other and singling it out and drawing attention to it specifically is ASKING for comments in rebuttal.
Lets put this big, buff sexual icon out there, he's male, its not showing his giblets, just nipples and a nice supple open chest, yes, a clearly sexualized open chest the ONLY TIME YOU ARE SEEING NIPPLES IS WHEN THERE IS NUDITY.
THE ONLY TIME WE ARE SEEING NIPPLES IS WHEN THE ART IS CLEARLY BEING MADE FOR THE PURPOSE OF GLORIFYING SEX OR SEXUALITY.
NAME A SINGLE TIME YOU HAVE SEEN OTHERWISE THANKS BYE.
I have seen some disgusting hairy mannipples in my life and for some reason something that nasty is acceptable but a pretty girlynip is a felony or something?
HEY DRAGONEER IF YOU WANT TO BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAW HOW ABOUT BANNING RAPE ART INSTEAD? Rape is illegal, just like CP, and apparently female nipples. Do something about it?
Also I hate the idea of a "rape fantasy". Do these people even know what rape is like? There's nothing sexy about it. Draw it all you want but don't upload it ffs. Rape is the opposite of sex, it's the lack of consent. Most "rape" art can just be renamed to "rough sex" because it looks like it. Throwing rape in there just fetishizes a very serious crime, I don't see why it's necessary and I especially don't see what's so appealing about it.
I dislike seeing people throwing rape around as some sexualized thing, when it's an illegal act that shouldn't be acceptable no matter the way it's shown. And there is too many people trying to push rape off as something that isn't serious, or worse, joking about it. Especially when they joke about it to victims, and sexualize the fact that they've been in a crime as such.
If someone is so obsessed with a 'rape fantasy,' or whatever they want to pass of their odd fetish as, then I really wish they would keep it in the bedroom. And like you said, they should at least consider it as rough sex, or some sort of bondage, however they classify it in that fetish.
There's too many people on here that are more than happy to promote rape. Fantasy is only okay up to a point, and I wish people would realize that.
There are degrees of badness and at the worst end is pedo, rape, bestiality, and murder.
I also hate the argument of "you're a vore fur you have no room to talk" when in reality my vore fetish is always consensual, the thing wants to be eaten. And also no one gets hurt in the vore I draw. They aren't digested or mangled in the kind I like, they come out satisfied and happy! So no it isn't anything like rape to be into something like vore, because even some vore art crosses lines into the murder category and I don't care if it's a fetish, fantasizing about rape, little kids, your dog, or killing someone is just plain WRONG.
"But it's the internet!" the internet still has real life consequences as it's still a part of real life. Most people don't jump off a bridge when their friends do so why ditch morals just because some others do? It's not an issue of tolerance, some things just shouldn't ever be tolerated.
But to the people who can't differentiate the meaning of what is and what isn't acceptable, and defend their point, is what scares me. Because there's a lot of them out there, sadly. v.v
If I ever hear anything in the means of "I wanted to rape her/him last night," or "My dogs ass is so great," that's just...no, ugh.
The internet gives people a false sense of anonymity, but it's quite the opposite. Seeing these people face justice is what gives me hope in humanity
That's excellent. I'm gonna watch you.
//and I had almost given up//
I'm still going to tag male/flat chested undefined gender characters with nipples as mature.
No nipples at all in general submissions. Much simpler, and not treating men like they're inferior and less sexually arousing beings than women.
Wow all of it looks so much better. And at lot easier to take in -for the most part-.
Got a quick question tho, in the AUP, under (prohibited) photography
3.9 - Photography of animals feeding on other animals is prohibited.
what does this exactly mean? Are we talking about carnivorous animals chowing down on prey or are we also including baby animals nursing off their mothers?
Just curious. I'm doubt able to say I'd have reason to upload the either, but I do have a breeding dog, who in the future will likely have pups I'll take a picture of. And it would sort of suck to get the image of her nursing her babies taken down. XD Just wanted to clarify.
And on the note of avatars, ones like This are still allowed, correct?
Other than those two things, everything else is quite clear and good to me. c:
I really don't see why so many are complaining about the Rating system, General, Mature, and Adult have always been those things, they just were never outlined like that before. Google would have told them the same thing pretty well. And so long as it's enforced, it will seriously help people better understand that their submissions shouldn't be under General when they belong in Mature or Adult -__-; (seen so much of that in the past)
Thanks for the update! Looking forward to the addition of items to the site when it comes. (pssst, particularly folders lol.)
But mostly just wanting to check and see if "feeding" is a general term to include bother animals devouring their prey and mothers nursing their young. c:
What I might actually suggest in exchange if I think about it, would be more filter settings than just "adult content". Maybe a special option to hide gore. I mean I'm among the people who see NSFW art as easily as I breathe air, but don't typically like any gore stuff (although I can live with seeing it). So such a setting could be useful, and would make sure everyone is happy while keeping censorship to a minimum.
Its not "censorship", its not repeating the mistakes of the past.
Sheep eating a flower = d'awwww
Puppies feeding from their momma = d'awww
Lions ripping apart a water buffalo = gore-blood-guts-fest/stomach churning
The rules are based on their opinions, they don't care about what logic should be involved.
BECAUSE FUCK LOGIC
I love the rules, please enforce them this time.
Its about being unecessarily sexist.
Its either all nips or no nips and being wishywashy is bull.
It IS about following US laws regarding nudity. It has nothing to do with sexism. If FA does not follow the US/Virginia laws, they could be charged, fined, and shut down. If US/Virginia laws allowed for female nipples to be shown in the same way as male nipples, then there would not be an "issue". The only reason this is an issue is because Virginia law is ambiguous as fuck, so if you want to complain about something go complain about that to the people who make Virginia's laws.
which is why I am about to take it down and call this site shit, pack my bags, and leave this piece of shit site
because honestly, this place is getting worse
and I think the site is just getting more and more complicated and messed up. less simple. new rules just as you get used to the old ones.
Still, I find IB better for two reasons: First is that I never heard about weird rules on it, which FA is full of. Second, they seem to have a much better design and interface and system... like themes for the user page, 1 to 3 star favorites, etc. FA barely made any technical progress with the site in the many years since I use it sadly.
and yea, that site IS better. just all around better
What if you're playing the DVD you purchased in your computer?
I don't see that as any different than inviting friends over to hang out and watch the movie with you.
And what about music? Some people need to listen to music to be inspired to draw.
I don't really see how FA plans on enforcing these rules. There's probably hundreds of streams advertised on FA each day. Is someone going to check every single one to make sure that they aren't listening to music?
Kayla-na.jpg
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Kaylana.JPG
And by the time staff gets around to looking at those tickets through the backlog, the stream will already be over!
^Logic!
How else are people going to prove that music was playing in the background when the stream is already offline, and there's no saved clips to view on the stream's page?
Are people going to use a desktop-capturing program to record someone's stream with music playing?
And then expect the staff to care? Lololol
its not enforced in this scenario though because it is beyond difficult to enforce. compare this to steaming a movie you are watching while working on something with friends.
same scenario, but extremely easier to enforce, and website owners are expected to enforce this rule.
TLDR U.S copyright law is extremely stupid
This is so confusing. D:
Streamer pays a monthly subscription for Netflix.
Netflix is okay with letting your friends watch movies with you.
therefore, streaming netflix to your friends is okay?
Netflix...I think...pays a fee to show those movies, so it's like a retransmission fee. But a streamer isn't paying that, so...
Too confusing for me.
this is why they started making their own shows. its their material so they wouldnt have to pay for it
I hope I don't have to replace my music with me singing crappy covers of all of my music to my viewers. XD
But seriously, most of the stuff concerning streaming music (at least) is just ass-covering, in the extremely unlikely event you wind up being sued by the World Media Group or whatever. Every single streaming site says the same thing; "Don't play copyrighted music. That's stealing. Blah."
I really doubt the FA admins care if you're playing Metallica or Foo Fighters or Beethoven or h0ffman or frickin' One Direction [why would you ever], and I really doubt they're gonna check streams. At least a few of the administration have to listen to music while drawing too.
Streaming it constitutes a public performance-which is illegal unless you have permission from the copyright owner. Also, you can have friends over your house to watch a movie as long as it's free but if you asked them for money that would make it illegal.
It's the same as if you commissioned art from someone. Just because you buy it doesn't give you the right to display it in a public venue unless you have permission from the copyright owner since even if it's a character you own the copyright to the copyright to the art itself belongs to the artist. If they asked you to stop displaying the piece it would be entirely within their rights, and you would be required to stop displaying it.
'Loving this so far
The site can't handle the submission NUKE button nevermind mass uploads.
Thanks for reminding me
Take charmander for instance, they are stage 1 but can be level 100 without evolution, this is where it gets me
For example a Charmnder can be a fully grown adult but a Charizard can be a baby.
It's by age not levels nor evolutions so like I said it's a heavy gray area. Best to ask an admin directly I guess?
I don't draw anything under aged since it's just weird to do so for me so I wouldn't know.
All I can say is make them look aged? Just because it's a stage 1 pokemon doesn't mean it has to look like a baby.
Think of like real life animals maybe? Like a cat is an adorable kitten but doesn't look the same as an adult. Sure it can still be cute
but it also looks grown.
I'm gonna shut up now lol just note an admin or something =)
Debate is on!
Daycare
Baby pokemon, anyone? In the game they cannot breed, and still lotsa of porn of them...
In the games you put Pokemon in the Daycare and if they are compatible, then they have an egg. Do people honestly think an Egg just drops from the sky and hits the Daycare-hand in the head? xD
Charmander is a bipedal salamander and not really a humanoid, so i assume that would be feral?
I have a lot of pics of charmander in that type of situation, and no one complained. I did note an admin with screenshots of what im suspicious about, i just want to keep my account in good standing.
I filed that ticket last year, still waiting forma reply...
Most pokemon, actually the vast majority can breed from first stage, level 1, etc, just fine.
But there are a select few like Pichu, Togepi, and Riolu that cannot breed.
Here's the list of pokemon at "baby" stage that can't breed.
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/w.....y_Pok%C3%A9mon
If pokemon are judged by this, it should limit that. Probably. Though how the pokemon is drawn and referred to in the artwork should also be taken into account.
Would that be acceptable, since it's technically an "advertisement" but it's no longer applicable since the auctions have closed.
I hope not everyone here thinks that all minors are immature little shitheads augh ;__; I'd like to think I'm not
Ultimately there needs to be changes in how notifications are shared. If a section was added to front page for recurring ad submissions it'd be interesting to see (although it'd likely cut into users investing in FA advertisement space - people are cheap but those ads really are worth it). Even if FA changes nothing, people will find ways to get around rules/lack of user features.
I'm wounder if you'll be able to have folders for your favorites as well?
First off, the overall changes are decent. Both items do read more fluidly and I applaud that.
But I will agree with the users before me about the nipple issue. Honestly, when I'm out in public, there are a few men I see without a shirt that probably should have one. It doesn't bother me personally but it might bother others. But just because he's a man, it doesn't matter if his chest is more feminine. And with this site, you have a way to make it fair. Either allow both female and male nipples to be general, or both to be mature. Society's standards are not reasonable and you following them puts you in that same light.
Also with the livestreaming issue. I know a lot of my favorite streamers play music or movies while they draw. It's fun for everyone. And someone above put it out there that if the streamer bought the movie, it isn't any different than inviting friends over. And if they didn't buy it, how would you know? With how often people post ads for streaming, you'd be on the front page all day long just making sure people are following those rules. When all artists are really doing is giving a link to a place for people to come chat and watch. You aren't liable for those links to include music or videos so why not just let people do what they do best to allow them to create however they feel comfortable to do so?
Also with the postings of advertisements for commissions and YCHs. If you're trying to sell, and not a lot of people are biting because maybe you're a new artists or not a well known artists, deleting and reposting is what gets you out in the FA world overrun by popular artists. I agree that maybe posting a time limit of once every 24-72 hours would be appropriate. And that any previous posts be deleted. There's a time limit for streaming, why not ads? Considering ads with what makes artists money...
I'm just not sure if I really approve of some of these changes. I understand fully you are trying your best, but when you receive so much of the same response, maybe double check the way things are going.
Who's really going to sit and watch every furry's stream here to make sure that they're not playing music or movies?
What about streams that you cannot post in the chat without making an account?
And my point exactly! The way the rule is worded, it makes it seem like you're either going to rely HEAVILY on the honor system or you're going to have someone watching everyone's stream. I'm fine if that's not really what the rule was meant to be, but that the wording was taken into the wrong account. But if they really mean to implement this rule as is, there are going to be a lot of problems.
Now Streaming and watching Avengers
or something like that. Everyone listens to music, nothing can really be done about that unless someone really wants the go through the steps of getting you fined for listening to something on youtube.
You cannot openly say you are doing, listening, or watching something that either was pirated or is able to be pirated from your stream.
Even if you bought the album or movie someone can record your stream basically. So just avoid saying anything other than you are streaming and that's it.
I know someone on here that got suspended because they SAID they were streaming a movie while working. So just don't say it?
We all take chances though, just like I use LS for my streams and I do adult art.
Section 2.2 doesn't say anything about scraps.. >,=,>
THIS SITE ISNT WORTH THE BULLSHIT
What's the point in revising an AUP/TOS if you don't even respond to the reports of them being violated.
Rolling to death at how moot this is.
Most of the administration don't care if you're into things society deems freaky. It's an art site, all that. Most of the administration probably feels that the whole nipple issue is bullshit, just like we do.
But it's important to make it look like you care so you don't get shut down/taken to court over things.
The question here is "Will I get scolded for having underage porn now because my character looks like real life me, and real life me looks young? Even though there's no question on her age, as it's posted clearly on her ref sheet/profile, and always has been?"
After looking at your gallery: I certainly hope so!
/dick-mode
Though I do have a few of her drawn with breasts, because I used to forget to tell people that she was flat.
Does it disgust me and make me think you need some serious mental help? Absolutely.
If you have never had anyone "be confused with her age at any point in time" then why are you even asking this question? As long as "young red" is not shown in a way that violates the AUP, then there is no issue.
Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.
HOWEVER. The new wording of the rules is why I bring it up. I never questioned it beforehand.
"2.12 - Content featuring minors, if there is nudity or sexual activity present, is prohibited. Minors are real or fictional humanoids with a childlike body or younger than 18 years old, and talking or feral animals which are similarly immature."
She has a childlike body. Because I myself do. And I want her to look like me, that's the point of her being my fursona. She is me for all intensive purposes. And according to the new wording of the TOS, "childlike body" no matter what the age makes it kiddie porn.
The highlighted part is extremely relevant.
Again: If you have never had anyone "be confused with her age at any point in time" then why are you even asking this question? As long as "young red" is not shown in a way that violates the AUP, then there is no issue.
The only thing in your gallery or scraps that violates the AUP is this, which has nothing to do with what we are talking about:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13758372/
If they just browse briefly over it, which is lazy and therefore unacceptable moderation, then you may have an issue with that
It might be a good idea to have a photograph of yourself in scraps to give you something to point to, the way Shane can point to the actress he based Shayla on.
Perhaps the offence list could be extended to allow for ban of 1 month for a first offence, and then a 1 month ban with penultimate warning for a second offence.
In short, I'm suggesting that a new offense value is added between offenses 6 & 7, then 7 & 8 move down to become 8 & 9 respectively.
I'd be interested in hearing what neer has to say on this..
Erf.. I guess It really depends on what state your in? Some states allow women to walk around topless like men. There are even beaches that allow both genders to walk around topless. I dont see the big deal about breasts to be honest. If I have to see a really fat man with man titties walking around why can't I see a fellow women?
Just add fat and BAM you got girl boobies. Nudity is so frowned upon it makes me sad.
As a simple example, random people get naked and go into Sauna's all the time. They have no problem with one another body.
Its just something that will always bother me. "Its ok to have half naked men on a magazine cover, but if there is a half naked women showing nipples then its sexual!" No its not sexual, its called over sexualizing the human form.
Just blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
while i personally do not want people starin at my tits
a lot of states in the USA are actually opening up about the topless female laws
FUCKING IT UP FOR THE REST OF US
Answer: Nope.
Resolution: It is not allowed.
Reason: FA tries to be a SFW website when viewing only "General". If something would be a problem being viewed in the standard corporate workplace (one that at the very least allows internet browsing), then it would be considered Mature or Adult, and not General.
Nipples are nipples none the less.
I don't really care about whether i see male nipples or not. Im just sayin in a work place if seeing female nipples is wrong then why should someone be looking at a topless male at work? =v
I'd do best to speak my opinion. Trust me I am not preaching. If I was preaching I would be going on about religion and thats a big no no, Haha.
I feel like it's a bit of a moot point there.
And corporate might question why you're looking at topless men on your computer too, really. lol
My point is only that it's still considered General rating, where-as no matter how you slice it, a topless female is Mature. Unless maybe the slicing involves a censor bar, haha.
I just find it irritating, and silly. A woman's breasts shouldn't be automatically sexualized. I mean, just because I get randy from seeing a man's chest (and abs, and hips, and.....) doesn't mean it's suddenly sexual, merely because of my own sexual arousal. But because someone might get randy from seeing a woman's chest it's considered sexual. x__x;; Granted, just about any of that would certainly pique my interest, or alternatively make me wish they had worn a shirt. lol But maybe part of that is because I'm hypersexual, and thus pretty randy constantly.
But whatever. I was just saying that technically you don't see anyone running around shirtless in work places unless that's sorta the intent of the work place. 8|
Basically if you take out the "female" in the new AUP you'd be fine. Either all nipples be shown or no nipples.
And yeah drawn rape is still rape. Just like drawn female nipples are still drawn female nipples, and CP is still CP. :V
What are you going to do about trouble tickets?!
I mean like seriously. I gave up on a couple tickets I had because it took so long and never got answered. The last ticket that got answered was because I poked Dragoneer on facebook about the child pornography that was going on.
For god sakes, its the summer. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TAKE ON MORE STAFF.
Even if the only thing they are there for is taking trouble tickets on. Just allow people to help. You have plunty of people with spare time willing to help out with the stupid tickets.
I am even willing to help out to an extent. Just come on, get the act together! Dx
I have tried applying numerous times because I did the same thing on Furcadia for like 3 years >__> never ehar anything back from anyone.
Not like I'm asking anything out of it, as much as FA has been messing up it is the biggest site for Anthro/Furry artists and I would liek to help out since I have so much time
at my disposal but oh well I guess?
"The US has been cracking down on drawn porn of underage characters/people."
Evidence, please.
In Virginia, where FA is hosted, it is illegal to create, posses, or distribute child pornography regardless of whether or not the "child" is real. If FA allowed cub art and someone with a grudge reported them to the local authorities... they would be in tons of shit.
Perhaps I should have been a bit clearer, but I was tired as fuck when I wrote that. "Certain states in the US has been cracking down on drawn porn of underage characters/people" is probably what it should read.
Lets dig up something that hits close to home.
http://www.furaffinity.net/user/vamplust
I don't know Vamplust that well, but from what I have heard and the few dealings I have had with him he seems to be a very nice guy. He was arrested as part of a child pornography operation in Illinois called "Operation Glass House" in May of this year. A mutual friend (who shall remain nameless for obvious reasons) of mine and Vamplust told me that he did not posses any child pornography depicting real children. All of the "child pornography" that he was charged with possessing and distributing was 100% simulated/virtual (ie. "cub" porn).
http://www.furaffinity.net/user/shep/
(I'm honestly surprised his gallery hasn't been wiped)
Another FA user who was arrested for possessing and uploading child pornography. In this case I have not been able to confirm whether or not the actual charges were related to real children or not, but I strongly suspect that it was simulated/virtual pornography based on the contents of his gallery, his past actions regarding a similar matter, and a number of local rumors that I have been unable to confirm.
If I wasn't so lazy I could probably list at least half a dozen other recent cases (in the last 2-3 years) of FA users and probably dozens for non-FAers being arrested for possessing and distributing simulated/virtual child pornography... but, as I said, I am lazy. Go practice your GoogleFu if you want more information.
As far as "seizure inducing" images, I'll just note that I hope the judgment is made based on sound medical knowledge and not on popular conception of what might cause a seizure.
Streaming notifications would always be cool, note folders things and a new streamlined UI and front page. So far though I like the improvements
As a few others have pointed out, it's pointless to report something and not have some sort of action taken within the next week. There are some that have tickets from over a year ago.
Now bring on the spam of male nipples in general rated pictures. Also, I dare someone to make a G rated ref sheet of a male character with huge nipples, like covering most of the chest since it still counts as G rated.
Nipplemonsters.
Everyone must swoon at the intense nipple showcases he presents in the images of him.
And why are you asking me this? I'm not an admin.
Kudos team!
Will this be retroactive, for ratings especially? If so, would artists need to change the ratings of things in their scraps/gallery at least to a certain amount of time/number of images back?
For 2.8 "Content of poor quality", would this also apply to things which could be higher quality, but are still acceptable? For example, audio that doesn't sound horrid like it's been through YouTube 20 times, but which is still encoded at a low quality i.e. at least slightly higher than telephone quality, or a low to mid quality JPEG that has obvious (but not generational, i.e. compressed multiple times) artifacts, but which is still good resolution (at least 480x360 or so) and legible/clear.
Would 3.1 "Self portraits" also include extended periods of time between uploads and unique poses, situations or image compositions, or are you simply not allowed to have more than 3 images of yourself?
Does 3.4 "Photography displaying adult toys" require all of the things listed (which includes that you made it yourself, which seems arbitrary), and if not, could its wording be clarified a bit?
In 4.1 "Screenshots of applications, games, movies or websites", does this only allow for absolutely new and unique content like a model replacement or mod in a game, or are things such as choreopgraphed screenshots of a game which depict unique situations or else something similar to a "photograph" in the game allowed?
Under 6.2, do scrapped items appear publicly (i.e. under furaffinity.net/browse)? If not, could you include that in the AUP info there?
In the TOS, does 3.4 apply to group accounts as stringently as worded?
Thanks.
With regards to 6.2, NO, scraps do not appear in the browse feature nor do they appear in the search feature.
Hope this helps.
I know its no big deal or shouldn't be complaining, just if rules are getting tighter shouldn't they All be tightened evenly?
(i know it's not breaking anything but the fact it's an up-skirt tickled me.)
Folders for notes would be helpful for sure (not that I'm holding my breath - just expressing interest in the idea) folders for favs would probably help artists get discovered.
Rating description looks awesome! Not sure how many will follow them or if they will be enforced. I use the adult filter and it's amazing the amount of stuff that slips through - hope the new descriptions help submitters :>
I have a collection of 200 different models of "something". Each model is "unique". I can take 3 pictures of each model individually and upload them to FA in my scraps section. I now have 600 pictures of mass manufactured "unique" models in my scraps section. Each photo is 1.7 MB in size and takes up over 1GB of server space. U MAD, FA?
Can we go back to having this crap banned yet?
Frontal nudity with bits? Yes, that's where we'd draw major lines. The main reason is a lot of cub artists tried to use that as a loophole. So, if the bits are showing, that's bad. A butt? Not so much, but we'd have to take the context of the image in question. We understand that. =P We're not monsters.
Happy that the folder option is coming soon though. <:
Some asshole even told me leave the site because he wanted to post photos of his gross stomach. Yeah, no thanks. I thought we were a furry animal site, not furry bellies.
In all seriousness, I've filed a ticket against this one guy who called ME a pedofile for telling him his stupid stomach doesn't belong on here. I'm 15-years-old, rather curious about who's the pedofile in this situation.
It's so gross...
Lovin' your username, too, I wish I chose that.
* Added a rule to prohibit content created by character or image generators
What is the harm in those images if the person who made the generator is okay with people posting their created characters elsewhere, and if the poster gives credit to the maker of the generator?
like mlp creators, feral wolf generators, etc. -shrug-
Would I be allowed to link to a generated character in my profile or something, as long as it's not an actual submission on the site?
You're right though, they should update it.
General
Language: May contain some profanity; however, language is not used in a sexual context. Dialogue may be suggestive, contain sexual innuendo, discussion of adult themes, and the expression of views and opinions that users may find offensive, disrespectful, or controversial.
From the first part of the AUP. Shouldn't that second sentence read "Dialogue may NOT be suggestive," etc? It seems like it...but I can't be sure.
or is it okay if like, say i drew a mother holding her just-born child and shes cradling it, but its a side view and you cant see any offending bits
General
1.1 Content must be appropriately rated:
Nudity: Free of nudity of any kind, including outlines of genitalia, female nipples, or bulges. Nudity is defined as the open display of genitalia, or exposed, female nipples.
The example you used, based on the wording of the AUP, would be allowed.
having trouble understanding that. does that mean if we have like 5 different items for sale we can put all those up in the gallery or just one of the 5? or do the rest have to go in scraps? the way this was worded is very confusing to me.
If you have 5 items for sale, you may have 1 submission for each item.
You cannot combine all 5 into 1 image and upload it 5 separate times.
good to know that if I have different items for sale I can put a single image up for each one.
About stock images, you can do it if it is free-to-use, or with official permission.
My only slight criticism is that female and male nipples should be treated the same. They are literally the same and drawn the same way by most, so it just makes more sense to have general art be free of both female and male nipples.
But overall I think the changes are fair and helpful. Thank you (mods/admins responsible for the change) for revisiting the AUP and TOS, it needed to be done.
As for specific changes, or things that aren't immediately obvious:
What about some of the various "POV audio" submissions that pop up from time to time, some of which are described as emulating various sexual sound effects? Are those no longer allowed?
Are flashing avatars also prohibited by the rule against potentially seizure-inducing content? They've fallen out of popularity, but I'm sure there are still a few users with icons that flash between black and white a few times per second.
What exactly is allowed regarding YCH submissions and other advertisements? The phrase "1 upload per Gallery Folder per item for sale" would suggest that, at most, an artist would be allowed to put the original auction in their gallery and a single reminder in their scraps, or vice versa. Someone found a journal posted several months ago in which it was stated reminders must be "new and unique submissions", but no similar phrasing exists in this update.
In the same journal from months ago, "spam to win" raffles were banned, but those changes are not in this update. Please tell us that's just an oversight that will be corrected before these rules take effect.
I agree that contests and remarks about journals should be added.
I have also had a few that went over a year and still haven't been read or dealt with, but they were mostly opened way back when they had very few admins handling tickets. They've cracked down since then from what I've seen, at least with certain TYPES of tickets.
Added a rule to prohibit content created by character or image generators.

Grabbing the popcorn.
As for the drama.. eh, I'm sure you're used to it by now.
Skimpy arses swinging around and bouncing tits. Not interested and it's a shame to see them take so long to be dealt with.
7.1 - Content must be rated “General” as per section 1.1 and follow all other rules of this document.
---Will this be policed better? There's been some horrendously NSFW icons popping up these days. With the clarifications of section 1.1, many trending icons will no longer be allowed.
like a nude body covering the chest, showing nakes butts but no genitalia, is quiet confusing.
There's also the general 'cartoon nudity' side of character sheets that becomes involved.
However for certain, those icons with tape over the nipples should not be allowed. Icons with 'jiggling' should not be allowed. Icons with groping should not be allowed. --Under the current rule adjustments.
I would also dare to say that icons with cartoon nudity should not be allowed to be animated, because quite honestly, it's just a call for attention when you combine the two ;P But what can I say, I love clean content. I can appreciate adult content but only when done with tact, something many people have shunned. *shrugs* :)
Also, I would probably be one of the only people to feel this way, but I would love an option to view only clean banner in spite of allowing mature/adult viewing. In other words, a separate 'allow mature' setting involving banners.
Especially for commissioners that are perhaps only looking to purchase adult art, and therefore are wanting ads that are more aimed for them. And on the other hand, those who are interested in clean art can have a good selection as well.
Alls I can say, is I'm not a fan of seeing "SOMETHINGSOMETHING XXX" with borderline pornography being flashed across the screen while some bystander could look over my shoulder. I might be looking at a cute picture of a puppy, but that ad filled with sex faces flashing on the screen tells a different story.
and NSFW AND SFW icons. Duddde, when it comes to icons and banners im so prude. I wanted to link my sister to a mlp piece on here once (she love the show) but I didnt with the stuff thats allowed on.
But yeah, maybe instead of "Adult" limitations, it'd be "Mature" limitations for the NSFW variants, and a category of allowance for each. Artwork, Banners, Icons...
If it's something so public it needs to be safe. Unless they want to implement some way of having 2 icons/banners. one nsfw, and one sfw, which would be viewed depending on what mode the site was in.
my siblings are kinda finding the fandom, my little 9 yr old sis, mlp, my 10yr old bro, he thinks hes a wolf (we know its where it starts!) and sometimes there is pieces on here i want to share with them, but the sfw site, isnt sfw enough for me to show them.
I can wait some years though, but sometimes they manage to convince me or my mother to buy prints off artists (on da), which is why its disappointing that you know, some people can potentially be losing sales because of the lack of uhhhhh....i forget the word. Hopefully you see what i mean.
I totally realise they shouldnt be on websites like fa and da under 13, but they are on there with my mother, so they have supervision. I just link them pieces sometimes.
But yeah, I don't think being a little PG-friendly would be the end of the world. Some people just love the attention they get from JIGGLEJIGGLE icons a bit too much. >_>
And I feel like I've seen you before. Somewhere. *hmms* |3
You can get plenty of attention with facial icons, or even hips (like belly dancing, is cute, not overtly sexual either) smiling etc.
I think its because so many resort to sexuality to get attention now, they dont know how to get attention with sfw means
And yeah, probably on another FA journal. I really do like these. It's a fun social adventure to watch people's wide range of reactions and pick people to grill them, find out why they are reacting like they are, and such...
*cough* men can't comment cause they're men people *cough*
Ohhhhh please NO! I don't wanna see what people put in their asses! DX
Sex toys are meant for private occasions. They just don't belong here.
There's a few people on here that I've seen that make their own dildo concepts and such and upload it-- or sell them off.
Maybe?
a good example is say, someone posts a picture of Scar raping simba. we know simba is a cub, a child in terms of physical and mental growth.
Do i agree with the rule change? nah. i dont really care if people post such things here, but hey, theres inkbunny for that now, so scar and simba shall have to go live over at IB.
My feral Dragon OC, Napther, is -somewhere- between
Currently, you can have "cub porn" or you can have "a site that has its bills paid" unless you have some other way to do it. You should use a different site if you medically need cub porn.
I still don't get why they're more concerned about their money than their users who I'm sure would be MORE than cooperative with donations or various other means of obtaining money.
Donations are fine. The question is, how are they going to get the donations to where they're going without an escrow service? How many people trust the FA admins with checks? I know I'd rather have a Refund button in case FA goes down the way Yerf did in 2003, with a donation drive that ended in Scotty Arsenault making off with eight grand of the community's money and no way to get that money back.
I still probably wouldn't trust FA with a check though.
A website can supplant rules and laws that are entirely within their rights to utilize and enforce.
You cannot attempt to use state laws on a website, as it does not -reside- within those states.
2. FA stated above in many many comments, it follows laws of the USA since it is based within the united states.
3. Since FA stated that it follows laws with in the US, it should follow all to the best of its ability. Allowing male nipples but not allowing females is very sad, since female nipples are NOT sexual organs under any definition (using the reason it turns people on is NOT a reason at all since a lot of people are turned on buy odd random things)
Secondly, read this: "We reserve the right to refuse service to anybody".
Do you know where that came from? It was a right of any business owner to refuse service based upon their personal decision so long as it did not cause an infraction upon the state or federal law. In this case, you have this website stating that "In order to cover our asses, we are no longer allowing X, Y, or Z on our site." And you know what? It's well within their rights to do so. Just because a federal law or state law says it's "Not a crime" to have such things, it is still within the rights of the site owner to create rules such as this. If you do not like it, then do the responsible thing.
Gather all the people who think differently on it, and create a petition. Because I can guarantee you for all the effort you might put in complaining? it's nowhere near as significant as a document signed (digitally or otherwise) by over a thousand people saying the same thing: Stop it.
Im not sure why you are so rude for no reason.
Complaining would be
"YOU WONT LET US SHOW WOMEN NIPPLES YOU BASTARD WHY WONT YOU DO THAT IM LEAVING FA IF YOU DON'T CHANGE IT BAHHH"
Asking a curious simple question
So....what happens to the female nipples rule since it IS legal for female nipples to be shown in almost all states?
After fender stated this site follows US laws.
Now please, if you continue to just treat me like a kid, insult me and all around just be rude for no reason, please dont even respond because im here to discuss things like adults, not argue with some random person on the internet.
You are taking this in a binary concept: Just because they follow US laws, it doesn't mean they need to. There are exemptions.
You fail to see that because you think that a statement is the only validation you need for your reasoning.
and I already knew that, but if we are playing that game, then male nipples should not be allowed either.
It's nothing but immature bullshit in my opinion.
I'm sorry X3
But yeah you are right. It's sad but true.
As far as it being a pipe dream, let's just say that a piddly furry website is far from the place you should be lobbying for such equality. Sorry, but fussing here is just being immature and inexperienced in the adult world. :( There's much better outlets to push for such things, and believe me that there's a lot more to it than just the basic concept.
Man why do people call me immature for my opinions around here, sheish as soon as you feel differently from a mass your immature, childish and stupid. Shakes head* I was simply not fussing, but asking a truthful question as to why FA staff decided no female nipples, thats not fussing...and if you cant make out the difference between questions and complaining then you sure, are immature and inexperienced.
I'm not saying men aren't at fault, but this is something that's ingrained into our society, and ingrained even into our genetics. Increased testosterone levels in males result in some extremely aggressive behavior, and being around large amounts of sexual stimulation with no method of satisfaction is biologically taxing. I've read stories of women who had excessively high testosterone levels and the sorts of effects it had on their aggression levels.
And looking around, there are many people complaining as though 1. This is a brand new concept to life, and 2. This is somehow FA's fault, 100% entirely.
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/...../#cid:41156161
1. I know its not a new thing, because even as a kid I would strip and run with out a top only to be scolded then watch my cousin who was male get to do it....
2. I also know this, which is why I asked my original question which I doubt you read at all.
My nipples would either get chaffed really bad, and my boobs would get so bruised. I wear tops to hold them in place yo.
Despite the laws of some states or local townships concerning nipples being more progressive than others, the overarching Federal rules about what is considered pornographic apply to websites based in the United States because those websites can be accessed from anywhere, including areas where the laws aren't so lenient. FurAffinity has to follow Federal regulations to avoid being shut down or censored even further. It's stupid and it needs to be stopped, but there's no way to fix it from here.
But I've had to file trouble tickets almost a hundred times over by now for individuals who are violating these terms already.
Their primary excuse has been one of two things: "Well why don't you report everyone else since they're getting away with it?"
And my favorite: "Well that's only one way to look at it, since it wasn't in the actual update and just a journal, I call bullshit"
Please, I am very much getting tired of having to report people and then get shit on because of the ignorant masses who refuse to read these things and become informed users. I am also very tired of having to sit here and wait months on end while pedophilic art or violations of these rules gather dust in my trouble tickets. Therefore I am calling for a mandatory four hour period in which all administrative members are to not only handle the trouble tickets, but Actively search the submissions for violations of the AUP, COC, and TOS.
As of late, all I've seen are admins whom respond to trouble tickets; But that's not going to stem the tide of violations which are reaching higher levels every day. It's not going to help the tidal wave of trouble tickets being formed, and it is only going to get worse unless proactive steps are taken. I'm doing everything I can as a member of this site to ensure that the admins are notified of the violations, but when it takes months on end for them to even be resolved? It's really sickening to me.
In this journal: "These rules will have a two week window (starting today) before we enforce them to give users a chance to digest the changes and work on compliance."
I'm going to be waiting till the end of the two week window, but after that? People better expect to be following the rules by then, or they're getting the axe.
Is free line art/ref bases no longer allowed either?
Everything in this list will go down according to Fluffdance's admin nightmare scenario exactly as written down.
Fluffdance: Come get disassembled bro, lol
No bad blood between us, trust me.
The rule has always left me feeling a bit uneasy, as I do audio-only work.
Perhaps that's what they're going for? I dunno'.
"Don't make looping flash animations that have moaning sounds" - Easy enough!
It's not grammatically incorrect, but it's not very logically sound.
I admit the rule is kind of out-of-nowhere, but it just seems to mean that you're not allowed to have sexual sounds in a looping flash as opposed to a non-looping story-driven one. I admit I'd be curious to learn more about the intent of this rule, why it was added. It seems to affect some of those flash games with moaning loops. But anyway, yeah, logically it is peculiar, but that's what they mean. No sexual moans in auto-looping swf's or in audio uploads.
I should probably point out that almost all Flash animations loop to some extent. For example, a walk cycle is a loop. Even an animation which never pauses (as a game might) probably involves some form of looping. It's all down to the way you interpret the term "loop", and that's what makes it dangerous.
I'd like to see some sort of clarification on what that means, but I dunno' if any will be forthcoming.
The problem is, it's not entirely clear what it does refer to.
Yet, even ignoring that there are still many errors in simply proofreading, it still has glaring huge holes like these.
I'd bet that each of these you point out are instances where what the rules actually say isn't what they meant for them to say, so they will be mostly not enforced, but occasionally an admin will take some action based on what the rules say, then get reprimanded for not knowing "well, that's not what we meant with that one, so we let those go."
Most of FA's history of "bad admins" is as simple as these kinds of problems with the guidelines everyone's supposed to be using. When the rules don't say what your intent is, you get problems and inconsistencies.
In other words, these rules aren't the completely offensively horrible level of past attempts, but they still have some big problems of the sort that FA >really< should have learned how to avoid after all these years. So, credit for being a significant step up on many levels, but still needing to acknowledge the problems that have >always< been a serious issue with FA's entire history of posted terms.
2.8 and 2.9 were put in for very good reasons. Without those rules someone could fart and moan for 2 minutes an an audio file and call it "music". Without those rules someone could submit a text-only image and call it "art". Without those rules there would be a lot of garbage that could potentially uploaded to FA that have absolutely no place here.
# you need to keep in mind that they also mature faster than humans. This rule states that "talking or feral animals which are similarly immature." are forbidden, but does not exclusively state an age for them.
5.1 applies to music and audio ONLY. It does not apply to flash animations or their content.
I see nothing wrong with the current, and I kinda like the new stuff that's been added. Makes the community (as a whole) safer.
about time i saw something like this being added. been having to see way too many users' icons making my anxiety for spontaneous epileptic episodes begin just from catching some of them out of corner of my eye or such. :/
Is it safe to assume you meant to say 'Dialogue may NOT be suggestive, etc, etc?'
Suggestive would be like, "I'd ride THAT pony any day!" It's suggestive and an innuendo because it can mean literal riding like saddle and such or sexual riding. It's suggestive, but not so much that a child would immediately jump to the conclusion of sex.
"Dialogue may be suggestive, contain sexual innuendo, discussion of adult themes, and the expression of views and opinions that users may find offensive, disrespectful, or controversial."
I'm pretty sure it's NOT ok to be talking about adult themes, having blatant sexual innuendos in the content, or posting very offensive and controversial opinions in a General rated submission.
Dialogue MAY be suggestive
Dialogue MAY contain sexual innuendo
Dialogue MAY discuss adult themes
Dialogue MAY express views and opinions that users may find offensive, disrespectful or controversial
That is what that says.
What it says that is NOT acceptable is using directly sexual language. Basically, the difference between, "I'd ride that horse any day" and "I'd fuck that horse any day". One is suggestive; the other is language used in a sexual content.
So I can go commission someone to go make a cub character where they make a blatant innuendo about "riding daddy"? How about an innuendo about sucking daddy's dick? How about a cub talking about "adult themes" and making suggestive comments? How about a character discussing how religion is bad and how all religious people should be burned at the stake?
Based on your interpretations: it is OK to be mark any of the above as General.
My entire point is that having the rule define "General" in that way makes no sense and is contrary to the basic concept most people understand of a "General" rating, and thus it is natural to assume they made an error which needs correcting.
The rule as written is contrary to what will naturally and obviously be the assumption by the vast majority of users. It's broken and wrong. If "may" is changed to "may not," then it makes perfect sense with the basic meaning of a General rating, this it is more reasonable to assume that they simply left out a word rather than to assume it was their intention to confuse the ratings even more.
The most efficient and effective way to choose where to draw the line between these ratings is to draw the line where most people are going to naturally assume it to be anyway. The average person hears "G rating" and thinks "squeaky clean and/or safe for kids."
Things that are "suggestive, contain sexual innuendo, discussion of adult themes, and the expression of views and opinions that users may find offensive, disrespectful, or controversial" are generally perceived as NOT kid-safe, and deserving a PG or PG-13 rating, which would naturally and intuitively line up with a Mature rating. If there's anything to be learned from FA's history of administrative interaction with users, it's that any inch you give will result in people trying to stretch it beyond what you intended. A General rating places a submission as viewable by people who have chosen to block mature content for personal reasons of wanting to avoid anything beyond totally G-rated, as well as the under-18's allowed on the site. Offensive, controversial, disrespectful, and sexual speech in a General-rated submission is the kind of thing inviting an issue. I am sure the intent is to only allow >mild< examples of these things in dialog, while more blatant or excessive examples will result in telling the user to mark their submission as mature - but then you have people being told that their submission is too much of something the rules explicitly say is allowed, but do not draw a line for where dialog is TOO suggestive, sexual, offensive, etc.
The far easier, simpler, and intuitive route would be to place those items as "mature" so you aren't leaving users OR admins trying to arbitrarily decide when suggestive dialog is too suggestive, when innuendo is too blatant, when offensive is too offensive, etc, etc. As written, you blur the line between Mature and General and draw that division in a space that WILL lead to arguments over the arbitrary placement of it, when a much simpler and more easily understood and enforced route is available with the simple addition of a single word changing "may be" to "may not be."
At the very least, even if you decide to leave the dialog rule as is, I hope you can consider adding clarification that while >dialog< may be _____, the actual visual content of an image with a general rating would not allow those same factors.
"General" is the safest and squeaky-cleanest of the ratings. It's so people who don't want to see anything beyond what they'd be exposed to in a Disney movie can avoid everything listed in that line. "Mature" is where all of those items go, and is the rating that exists specifically to have a classification for items that are not Disney-clean, but also are not sexually explicit or extreme either.
The most easily understood summation of these three ratings would be; General = squeaky clean and kid-safe, Adult = anything explicitly sexual at all, and/or extreme enough to have a good chance of bothering/offending many people, Mature = everything inbetween; not kid-safe, but not explicitly sexual/extreme/adult either.
That's the most common understanding, so any rules that try to define them otherwise are doomed to failure and confusion because as everyone knows, MOST people don't read these rules at all. You can SAY "well everyone has to read the rules" but if you define your ratings where "General" is the equivalent of a PG-13 movie rating (as it does with the present wording you are defending), then it is only natural and obvious that users will be confused and not operate that way.
Whether you agree or understand or not is irrelevant. The absence of "not" in that line of the rules is an error.
You cannot draw little kids sucking dick.
Heil Nemo!
But seriously, it's most likely true that they're disliking inflation content. By stating the term "Bulge" without any clear definition of what they define to be "Bulge" worthy content. Means the admins can just yet again, run around and ban a picture that one admin doesn't like. I could mention the Transparency issue here again but knowing FA, I'd just get banned for even discussing their community interaction and how clear they make shit to users.
You do realize running a site, that it's impossible to please everyone? Not just members but laws and businesses as well. And folks these days hate the word 'no', even when they're clearly in the wrong.
*Runs a site, makes lose-lose decisions regularly, can only do his best but cannot make EVERYONE happy*
Of course I do, but a site like FA, with the reputation it has, should've undergone a massive restructure a looooong time ago. Neer and his crew have practically let the site gone to shit with the amount of updates they've promised over the years but either never produce or complete due to some bullshit fight. Hell I remember when one of the new guys got fired from Phoenix 2.0 because Neer didn't like the fact he was doing work.
"folks these days hate the word 'no'"
That depends on the situation, when it comes to a site such as FA, the general term of "no" here means it's never happening because something went down in the office and then there's some sort of inbred fighting going on along with admins blaming users for an action that the admins caused. Trying to defend this site is like trying to defend a criminal who was seen murdering thousands of people in one go. It's pointless since at the end of the day furaffinity always has blind followers who have never kept a track record of how much shit they've fucked up.
Only reason i stick around here is because of the friends i have. I could leave but i'm not abandoning them over some admin shit unless it directly affects me.
It's not that Dragoneer doesn't care, but getting people to properly assist without fucking up is next to impossible, be it moderators, coders, etc. The fact that the site is even still functioning in terms of the equipment is a feat of praise for a group not getting paid as a full time job. I have enough trouble giving basic updates on my site, and when it comes to asking my moderators for help, they have a hard time setting aside the time to assist. :<
It ain't easy...
I find it funny here you say you stay out of drama but here you are on this thread and when i look at the comments you're trying to defend FA and say how it's "amazing" and a "good website" when there's a track record of it consistently fucking its self in the rear.
I always come into news journals and try and calm people down, because without a voice of calm logic, people continue to escalate their emotions. :(
If you need "bulge" as "crotchbulge" legally defined for you, you should not be using the internet, I am sorry.
Then I realized this wasn't about economics.
I understand that some people get irked at seeing these 'ads' but isn't our right to promote and share our art just as important? Aren't we the artists the ones buying ads and helping to support FA in the first place? Providing the content? This is an 'art site' not just a social networking place. Those how hate seeing the ych or other promotions can easily just stop +watching any one they feel is is promoting too much.
Most auctions only run a few days so buying a full out ad from the FA advertising boxes isn't really an option.
Also just using Journals is also a no go. The idea is to attract new watchers and most folks opt out of Journals or just never read them. It's especially stifling when the journals can't even contain image content. :(
I also think that the simple ability to be able to selectively watch artists for art or for journals, might re-enable the practical usage of journals.
As things are now, placing restrictions on it will generate new ideas that may create better solutions. In short term, they can't make any changes other than rules and as more and more people try to use FA to make a living, the advertising becomes more pervasive. Not everyone uses FA just from submissions in inbox. Some people use browse, some people use search...
Be creative, but don't be obnoxious in the process. :3 Y'know? ^_^
Regarding 3D work, with those notations removed, does that mean purchased models and such are once again prohibited from use, regardless of how much alteration there is? There isn't exactly any clarification that such is now acceptable still. Given that purchasing such is a very loose 'for you' point.
It's a very important point given this again could possibly hurt anyone who is attempting artistic rendering or animation.
But yes, it seems 3D artist's once again get kicked down for their trade.
That's the most recent version of the old AUP I was able to find, from April. The only exception that was listed on that is that it needed to be custom made for the uploader? I need to do some searching on this one, because I don't recall any recent revisions to that...
What if I find male nipples sexual and offensive?
What if the girl is flat chested?
Do traps count under this too?
Kinda sexist.
not that I actually care, just that I spent 2 hours changing 3/4 of my gallery to adult and I am tired cranky and opinionated. x_x
Not offensively sexual. We know most people here don't give a damn. But society has rules, and this site is not a porn site. It's a community site with an art focus. People browse this site in public places. Such things are publicly unacceptable. Period. This is a tightening of what is considered 'mature/adult', and a notification that it will be applied to avatars in a fair manner.
Mature pretty much means 'artistic lightly sexual nudity and sexually suggestive pieces' where-as adult means 'this is porn meant for porn' lol.
Easiest way to answer your questions is ask if society as a whole would object to this being plastered on say, your bumper sticker or as your PC's desktop at work. Not if YOU think it would, but if you think SOCIETY would. If TV programs would. If so, then mark it mature or adult. :)
I really need to learn to stop commenting on these journals.
Everytime I do I get a small handful of people shutting me down for hosting an opinion. <_<
You're right im wrong. I'll go change over the rest of my gallery to 'porn meant for porn' mode. I'm almost done anyways. Then I just need to go back through my comic gallery and change almost all of that to adult mode too T_T
I'm gonna be at this for days....
Though I would like to point out (even though I know ill get shot for this one too) that even the most casual relationship interactions between characters need to be mature rated now if they last any longer than a standard kiss or a hug and it's getting a little insane.
Though I wonder how many people will be getting off without so much of a slap on the wrist while I get random letters of 'stop breaking the rules' by the 4 or 5 people who insist on trolling my gallery and reporting me every time I breathe.
Again.
As usual.
I think it's good, overall. To try and shift FA back to being a little more PG friendly with its normal art stuff. Everyone wants to 'let it all hang out' and that sort of mentality ends up being socially unhealthy. It's not that we can't enjoy adult works, just that we need to understand that line between work safe and mature, the line between the bedroom and the coffee shop, heh.
And I thiiiink it's kind of just that you replied so late in it that some of the repliers are exhausted hearing a lot of the same sorts of things...? I forgot a few smilies in my reply, I didn't mean to come across harsh, not towards you, but just in general a lack of understanding why everyone's so confused. XD
I totally agree with your other reply down there. Makes no sense to me, guaranteed to offend anyone-to-everyone, easier to just avoid them. :( I've met a FEW decent TG types though. And generally they're the ones who don't bring it up unless spoken to about it, and they are nice and level-headed. o.o;
Aemi ... Aemi ... Where have I heard that before... Ah, you do comicy stuff. I think I've run across a few before. :)
Ah well. Can;t please any...er....everyone lol
And yep I have my own comic gallery over at rtfmcomics. I think i've seen your name floating around too :)
I really hope you aren't referring to MtF, FtM, intersex or nonbinary people as traps.
As for trans/intersex characters, it all depends on what they would be coded as by a government institution, workplace or average legal guardian. It's unfortunate, but FA has to cover its ass on this point. FA Admin. can at least add a small note on that point.
And i mean ANYTHING.
It's even worse in the furry crowd because not only can you not use any kind of gender pronoun in the slightest but half the time you can't even use a species pronoun.
I generally refer to them as 'you' and thats about it.
Female nipples are not.
Simple as that. Societal standards, even if most FA users disagree.
Fuck the double standard. Either cover up all nipples behind a content rating or let all nipples make it into General.
Fuck the double standard.
#AllNipplesOrNoNipples
Many people use FA in public areas around non-furries. Especially in work environments (or at least they would like to!). Such things can cost people their jobs if a boss misunderstands. Doesn't matter what those of us around here believe, what matters is what society believes! That's what this is about. That's what these guidelines represent.
*shakes head in dismay* It's sad seeing so many people adamantly believe in this without grasping the whole picture. Truly sad... :'(
I USED THE HASHTAG AND EVERYTHING
STOP OPPRESSING ME AND MY OPINIONS, YOU…You…JERKITY-JERK JERK >:O
Everything ellllllse is just a reiteration of 'how the world works' and 'why FA has to conform'. XD
HASHTAGS ARE LAAAAAME MAAAAN /JERK-OPINION!

* If a person is streaming artwork but has alternate content (a movie/tv show) being shown in a small window, would that violate the AUP?
* If a person who is streaming artwork and providing properly licensed music (Creative Commons Share-alike license for FuMP music tracks, for instance), would the person not violate the AUP?
If music is just incidental to streams then it's likely just an issue with the stream provider. Personally, I prefer join.me because I do other things and do not like streams with sound; I mute them every single time even if the artist is talking.
So, yes.
If you have an issue, take it up with higher powers. Whining on a furry site is kinda sad. |D They're just upholding general society rules so that people can use the site in public places.
I'd respond to more, but your post is a bit of a jumbled mess. Sorry. *Tried*
Kinda like with the whole bypassing a cub ban by saying the character is older.
And from what I remember your art has a lot of character to it, so you shouldn't worry about it being crappy. I'm sure lotsa people like it and enjoy the doodles. ^__^
*offers hug* :3 I really don't have all the answers. I just have a good idea what they were trying to go for, letter-of-the-word or not. ^_^ A lot of people have been 'pushing the boundaries' for 'clean' stuff, especially in icons. It has made the site a little... awkwardly sexual to browse even when looking at innocent stuff. *hopes he's been more helpful than obnoxious*
"Free of nudity of any kind"
It may not be what they were intending but I am taking a by the letter approach to this just to be safe.
People who can't see adult stuff don't get to see my ref pics anymore lol
...or my price guide.
... oooooor my wips where i haven't done the clothing yet.
Lingerie and underwear models for stuff sold at Walmart are kept clean and relatively tasteful. They also aren't animated. "Sexual Undertones" versus "Product Display" -- That'd be the difference between a Mature rating and a General rating for the topic of undergarments.
Swimsuits are products that aren't intended for sexual foreplay, and are considered socially acceptable in places like the beach and waterparks, as well as on TV. That's the venue you should compare to when questioning rules like these. Not anyone's individual opinions, not even what's 'legal'.
The porn industry makes use of both womens' underwear and womens' swimwear, i'd say to about an equal extent, and it's a huge, multi-million(possibly billion) dollar industry, which's also on TV, and womens' swimwear is sexualised in plenty of other social places as well.
I guess what i'm saying is i don 't understand why underwear is automatically banned when by all means it's functionally the same and can be just as tasteful apart from the 'taboo' aspect of walking around in underwear (god forbid) in public. (I'm also not mad at you and i'm really sorry if i'm coming off as snappish, this is an issue i have with society as a whole because it's ridiculous)
And I acknowledge that it's an odd part of society, but with how people are raised, as to what triggers male instincts and hormones, these things would really damage society to try and adjust. Males are already horny and sexually starved. Having bare female chests commonplace sounds like it'd cause a lot more rapes, knowing how people tend to act towards such things. X_X;; *doesn't think too highly of society, and recognizes why some of these restrictions exist* ^_^;
:3
*Also watches a lotlotlot of crimedrama shows because real stories are more interesting than fake ones*
Well, it still doesn't cut it just being nice. Also you'd think running events at conventions would help, being able to run something like Werewolf. XD I'm also dense, picky (body-type preference in addition to liking their personalities), have a preference towards natural looks, and am typically anti-social and cynical in spite of loyalty to those that earn my respect. XD But I always aim to improve. And aim to own a fox. :P
Yeah, I am objective enough to look at the state of the world, both in the actions of the liberals and of the conservatives, of political drama and the state of the entertainment business, and I just frown. We kind of progressed too fast and things are falling apart in the younger generation. Some are good, intelligent, etc. But most aren't. ^_^
*likes debating and social logic* (Part of why I love playing Werewolf/Mafia)
And to be fair, I've pre-blocked people in past debates, but usually that's after seeing their replies to other people and knowing they aren't someone that will debate worth a darn. It's not the most mature thing, of course, but in my case, I just really didn't want to hear their whiny replies that they were sure to utter. |D
My life goal is to find someone to be with, and move to a place where I can own a fox. Got the money for that set aside, but can't accomplish it on my own. Income isn't good enough for solo-life. Haven't found anyone else yet who wants to share that dream. ^_^;
Rapists are rapists, male or female, or whatever. So, they will rape, in whatever they wear, whatever time they feel. It's a mental thing and not some born inhibition for men.
I do agree with bare chests being indecent in public though. They get my attention, I know it isn't nice of me but I can't really help it if something sexual is right in front of me. (bouncy tits for me is sexual. tits are sexual for me full stop. yes I am a problem, I am a witch, burn me.)
I just think there is a line between nsfw and sfw is all
Exactly, either all nipples are sfw or all are nsfw. It shouldn't be a gendered issue.
ogling is bad, but if someone is really beautiful, have to capture them in my head to draw. *.*
"Actually I state this as a guy concerned for women in general. I am a guy so I know guys. And I can only see bad things from having topless women walking about in common areas. :X"
Yes, tis silly. Like somehow FA was exempt from social standards and suddenly everyone is shocked when their boundary-pushing finally gets pushed back upon. |D
If you meant removing sprites, do you mean removing video game pixel art pictures? My boyfriend made some sprite-like pixel art pictures but none of them doesn't seem to have any copyrighted content AFAIK.
"removed special exemptions for sprites from copyrighted content"
"My boyfriend made some sprite-like pixel art pictures but none of them doesn't seem to have any copyrighted content AFAIK. "
I'm pretty sure you're OK here.
Its really hard for me to buy an ad slot so advertising was my only way to briing in new people, because word of mouth can only do so much.
Even though it says "images" it is listed under the "all content" section so I assume it applies to models as well. As long as the story of the comic is original content and you cite all sources of the Fair Use content, I think it should be safe.
If he uses a program that automatically generates the model for him, it will be deleted.
Honestly, it's kind of a double standard seeing as they allow people to take pictures of mass-produced merchandise and upload them to the site. :\
but would a parent bathing their child be considered child porn or any sort?
I have characters that are parents, and I sometimes draw them doing parental things with their kids (I.E feeding, bathing, etc etc), would that still be ok?
Like, a lot of the guys who are trying to figure out corner cases aren't taking into account that common sense is going to prevail eight times out of ten.
Basically its like how parents don't go to jail for taking pictures of their kids in the bath because there's a clear difference between that and a sexy naked baby in a sexy naked pose.
Unforts your only real recourse is just not reposting it, and putting it somewhere where somebody will appreciate it.
4.1 - Screenshots of applications, games (e.g. GMod, Second Life, Minecraft), movies or websites that do not showcase new, original, user-created content are prohibited.
4.2 - Content created via character/image generators is prohibited (e.g. Doll Divine).
I don't like this Second Life is a creator's resource and screenshots are the same as art in any other sense when the character portrayed is the user's. And as far as image generators go, I think a strict prohibition is silly. Allowing a '3 to the scraps file' or something similar rule would be just fine. But neither do any harm to the site.
Removed special exemptions for screenshots and sprites from copyrighted content.
Removed special restrictions concerning 3D models requiring purchase or sale.
It's about time. Glad to see sprites being allowed again, Spriters put a lot of effort into customizing and editing existing sprites to make something new. Furthermore the art of 'ripping' sprites is a complicated task, and has artist merit in it's own right.
You should re-read 4.1 again. If you're not showcasing "new, original, user-created content" you're just taking screenshots of random things you bought. Its the same rules that photography has been having to follow, and your non "new, original, user-created content" is probably more appropriate for tumblr, Deviantart, or basically any other site.
It's the same deal with sprites. This is my sprite sheet: http://www.majhost.com/gallery/King.....ngmanhuman.png
I took some existing content and heavily modified and used it to create my fursona in sprite form. To me this is as much user created content as anything else.
Why don't we have nsfw and sfw categories for icons?
One can only hope it'll happen in the next decade or so.
So can i still upload pictures of MASSIVE cockslaps or what?
Also, I had no clue that was even possible. o.O
I have a question about this rule - as does everyone, it would seem. Though, mine is more about the clothing. What about a person in a fur suit in lingerie, diapers or undergarments? TECHNICALLY the model is completely covered by the fur suit and the 'indecent clothes' are on the outside of other clothes. Hmmmm ...
Do you live in the US?
Have you ever watched TV?
Have you ever visited a normal beach or a water park?
Am I somehow missing something as to this being a new hot-button for people? @___@;
I only comment in reply to you because I see that you are commenting on everyone's posts about this topic, and I mean no disrespect to you for it. I just thought I would reply as you ended on a question. Hope you don't mind c:
I respect though you may not want to discuss it, so will end with saying have a nice day c:
Exposing breasts in only a sexual manner will support the mistaken belief that breasts are sexual. Displaying them outside of the bedroom as it was may cause issues for a "moderate" amount of time, but then what happens after? Acceptance and a change in belief.
I do not think I am in agreement though where you say "Equality is not necessary when genetics have legitimate differences". Can you explain your view on this more, because that just sounds very sexist in itself. I do recognise that there are of course differences in our make up, but your statement seems very close minded.
Times have changed from Victorian days where a bit of leg was too sexy for most. The general desensitization exists, and is slowly seeping its way into culture. Internet letting young males see just about anything they want from the moment they step onto the internet helps desensitization as well. But you still have the religious foundations of the country to compete with. Only time can dilute that. There may come a day where women can go topless at water parks. And I would definitely go to water parks more often for sight-seeing. But yeah, it's important to keep in mind that there's a lot of the world that still has 'normal' values, and us on the internet are not as big of a slice as you might think.
So, yeah, time. We have to be desensitized much more as a whole, because there's still a lot of people, a lot of lot of people, who simply wouldn't be able to adjust to such changes. Maybe in 20-30 years time. Maybe less.
I'm literally speaking of the chemicals our bodies produce. Testosterone and Estrogen. These chemicals within our brains will tint our reactions and many many people have a hard time resisting against the effects of these chemicals. Generally speaking, guys have a large amount of testosterone, and women have a large amount of estrogen. "Women on their period" for example, or a guy who really gets into sports and likes to butt heads with his guy friends. These type of behaviors are fueled by these chemicals in our bodies. Aggression in general can be linked to testosterone if I'm remembering correctly.
In general we can adapt to the differences of our bodies thanks to technology (for issues of an average endurance / strength comparison) but in a general sense, there are definitely physical differences. And this is, of course, setting aside cultural differences that bring the general population comfort, such as clothes meant specifically for men, and clothes meant specifically for women. These cultural differences are not as 'bad' as some people make them out to be. Being inherently different is okay. I mean, I accept that I can't have a full beard or mustache and have adapted to that. I just don't grow much facial hair. I also sport long hair but see myself wholly as male in spite of breaking the 'standard' gender boundaries. I don't wear it in a 'girly' way, I make it my own and have it match my style. At worst I get called a hippie lol. *has no clue where he's going with this*
Thanks for a reasonable response. Hopefully this response is also appreciated.
See: TV rating systems and general societal guidelines. >.>
Plus I'm genuinely curious why some people are so offended like FA kicked their puppy across the room. Like it's somehow FA's fault. >.> Heh
The issue is that a lot of "female-bodied" FtM people (or more specifically their characters) would be classified as having "female nipples" under these guidelines despite being male, which is bad for obvious reasons. The same problem exists in reverse for MtF people, and just plain exists for intersex or hermaphrodite characters all around.
It's unfortunate and nothing can be done about it because of how Federal laws and compliance with them works, but the FA Admin. could at least put a side-note in there to clarify that this isn't their stance, but the government's.
Reposting comment because dumb typo.
FA isn't going to define mature/adult content any differently from such places. And it's not like such things are banned..? They just have to be marked as mature or adult, and cannot be depicted in icons. o.o;;
I wasn't arguing any part of the whole clause thing. However, it's completely irrelevant to what I said, or to what Sierra was talking about, which was asking that FurAffinity administration add a disclaimer to that rule in order to make things clearer and avoid unnecessary offense.
Trans and intersex issues aren't inherently "NSFW". In fact, unlike porn--which is understandable to fire someone over if a bit extreme a reason--more and more states are making it possible to sue a firing employer if they decide you can't work there just because you aren't a "traditional" male or female, because that shit is fucked up and discriminatory as hell.
Likewise, trans/intersex/herm characters or issues don't automatically need to be marked as mature/adult as long as they don't have genitals showing. They can also be used in icons. If the rules said you couldn't have an intersex character for an icon, my icon wouldn't exist.
Notice I'm not talking about whether or not nipples should be banned or restricted under FA policy.
The English language and it's definitions of words has changed a lot in the past 20 years so I honestly don't know.
I guess what I'm asking is, just what does Sierra's definition of what a female actually is?
That. If someone identifies as male, he's male. As female, she's female. As both, he or she (ask) is both. As neither? They're neither. Simple as that.
If i have a genetically female character (tits, vag, ovaries, the works) that identifies as a male, that character still can;t walk around topless in a general rated picture. Sure that character will be able to go 'but im a male and male nipples are allowed!' but society in general and the staff on this site will go 'but you have lady tits so you're a girl to us. now cover up.'
No matter how hard you argue it, it won't change anything. staff doesnt care what the characters identify as. they only care what junk is in their trunk.
So far everyone is either debating semantics on purpose, completely ignoring what we're saying and assuming we're just defending Nipple Mountain or just having a laugh out of us wanting to be treated like, y'know, people.
Frankly, they're all idiots. I'm done with this whole conversation and I'm just gonna nuke any notifications I get from it from now on.
As for the FA Admin., I can only hope at least one or two people on the site are nice people. They don't exactly make a habit of deleting LGBT+ art, but who knows if that's only for legal reasons or the fact 90% of their bills are paid by hosting gay porn?
Your page is cool, by the way. I keep telling people we should make some kind of Goat Network.
I don't see why FA has to differentiate between male/female nipples; it seems like the easiest way to handle the situation is to remove gender from the equation completely. Specifying them as male/female is erasure of trans, intersex, and non-binary individuals.
Curious though (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) what exactly would your definition for Female be. Or is there no such way to define a female from a male?
Agendered people are those that do not have a gender. Non-binary people are people whose genders do not conform to traditional male or female profiles; agendered people actually fall under the NB umbrella.
Gender is emotional and mental. Sex is purely physical.
Either way, this really isn't the proper place to explain things. There is a place you can go, though, that has a lot of people who are great at describing the whole concept. You don't even need to make an account and ask yourself, the same thing's been answered dozens of times.
I really am done trying to explain this myself, though. I'm not very good with words and today was a very harrowing day.

The vast majority of society is cisgender and is wholly unaffected by trans/intersex issues, so now they're all very confused when we start asserting ourselves and demanding the basic respect and rights. This isn't a 'new' thing, it's a 'newly exposed' thing.
This is also explained in depth in the threads I linked, so let's not continue the discussion here, everyone. It has the potential to go downhill very quickly despite mostly calming down now.
here's a gender pro-tip:
there are no rules.
Lemme teach you. Guys have penises, girls have vaginas. Guys have an XY chromosome, girls have an XX pair both in the last pair (23rd), guys have testicles and girls have ovaries.
End of the story. The rest is Tumblr propaganda made by drug addicts.
Also, your definition completely erases intersex individuals and is very essentialist.
Lern 2 biology.
Have you ever stepped foot in a psychology, sex ed, or English class since junior high? Not everything is black and white. Do some reading outside of tumblr (admittedly full of drug addicts and radicals who do not represent the labels they are defining any more than the CSI episode represents all of the furry community) and educate yourself.
Society has been trying to take something that has been crystal clear for several hundred thousand years and make it exceedingly confusing. And then expecting society to immediately accept it and adapt. @__@
XX, XY, XXY, XXYY, XXX, XYY, XXXXY... chimeric and mosaic individuals exist. Not sure what chromosomes have to do with gender.
Trans, NB and intersex persons have been around for AGES. CENTURIES. Basically since the beginning of documented time. It's only been in the last couple of hundred years or so that "society" has been trying to force gender norms upon everyone and say "THIS is a female and THIS is what a female does. THIS is a male and THIS is what a male does. Fuck everyone else who doesn't fit."
Additionally, in most cases male nipples shouldn't even come up. Fur and what-not. ;) But when they do, and it's not a guy sucking on another guy's nipple, there's genuinely no harm in it, because it's not being sexualized. A pic of a guy in a swimsuit or a guy out jogging.
Lastly, for some really WEIRD ass reason, people are confusing 'must instead be marked as Mature' as 'banned' o.o;;; This isn't the end of the world, this is just to tone down what comes up with SFW, General only, and under-18 browsing. And that includes icons. Those who 'can only live in this world if [they] have an icon with [their] character's boobs jiggling while having erect nipples underneath tape' are just trying to get as much perverted attention as possible for whatever reason. I've never once sought to get that sort of attention here, and have always found these boundary-pushing icons to be excessive and irritating.
*shrugs* And lastly, in regards to photography, I couldn't care less what sorts of restrictions are placed on photos, but if something's acceptable in the average public location, such as your street, park, waterpark, non-special beach, gym class... then why should FA change those guidelines when it comes to General vs Mature? Those aren't FA's decisions to make, that's society's, and for some reason everyone is yelling at FA like they kicked their puppy.
That's it really, not once has it been used normally in regards to myself unless it was me using it.
The reason why I left Tumblr.
Since i found the place, i just feel so shit. I know i shouldn't, but it just reaffirmed what i always felt since I was a child. I only went on there to follow artists, but now I see many of my (old) favourite artists are bigoted extremists.
I can no longer enjoy great art sometimes.
Maybe you're the one more obsessed with labeling people.
Like why do we need another word?
There's boy, there's girl. Or not gender.
Pick one, why does it matter if your transgender? Isn't the point of being transgender to be the gender you want?
Does everything have to be labelled with more words?
I'm not transgender, by the way. As an outside, neutral observer, I just think your response to the explanation of what 'cisgender' means as a term (as well as including additional information, such as the fact that SOME PEOPLE use it as an insult, regarding the history and popular usage of the word) was idiotic and made you look incredibly immature.
You can choose to believe that you are above being identified as a bigot due to being a part of a minority. However, playing the victim in a situation where you have not been actually victimized is abhorrent and childish.
And I don't believe anyone is above being a bigot towards another person. However, you were the one that did indeed start with the insults when you said "When people get scared they get stupid. Sadly, this guy was already predisposed towards idiocy so trying to explain big words just hurt his brain. So sad."
Ah, you make the assumption that I am afraid of something. I truly am not.
You challenge my intelligence and insult me by basically saying I'm stupid and predisposed towards idiocy and need to have small words used to me. It almost sounds like you are saying I in some why have a mental deficiency, which frankly is just as insulting to people who DO have such things because it assumes they are not capable of learning something.
I'm holding that mirror up to you. I've not insulted either of the people I spoke with, or frankly you because I don't know you. But since semantics is at issue, either you want people to learn WHY using such words are a problem and explain it to them so that they know what NOT to do, or you can be all SWJ and just be angry at phantom insults and just demand people to blindly go with whatever you say.
Like I said before, since people can't do this as maturely without being insulting. I wash my hands of it. Call yourself whatever you want, just don't get bent out of shape if other people aren't following suit because you're too wrapped up in labels rather than just trying to be a decent human being (if even that's ok to say).
If you are not afraid of something, and you are capable of understanding and respecting it without saying ridiculous things like that you are going to CHOOSE to take a scientifically accurate label as an insult when it was not meant that way. It was noncontextual, immature, and made you look stupid. If you don't like being assumed to be of low intelligence, do not act that way. If you don't understand a word and want to hear the definition, that's fantastic, but when you then hear that definition and choose to reject it, saying it's a 'made up word' (simply because you haven't heard it before, apparently, when 'cis' is actually a pretty common prefix simply meaning aligned or static - which is what led me to believe that you have little experience with advanced vocabulary) and arbitrarily decided to take it as offensive because you couldn't be bothered to actually comprehend the definition and context which was being given to you.
I won't even bother to pick apart your ridiculous insinuation that I somehow believe mentally handicapped or low intelligence people deserve less or worse treatment than any other human being. Suffice it to say that I think that people who inflict stupidity upon themselves are not worth the same respect as someone who has less capability than the next person might, but struggles to understand and cope no matter how much hard work and selflessness that may require.
To give you a rough analogy, your comment stance is like a blonde woman asking what the difference is between her hair and a brunette's hair, and upon being told she is blonde and explained that blonde means 'yellow or light hair' which can also be used as an insult (IE: You dumb blonde!), decides to arbitrarily take it as an insult despite it not being intended in that fashion.
Responding to education with anger and self-victimizing is a mark of poor self esteem and low intelligence. If you don't want to be viewed that way, do not act in that manner. It's not rocket science.
Also, I'm sorry of my statements irritate you, but that is a bias that is solely placed on you since you bring that with you, because I don't recall you ever directly asking me what my opinion on any subject would happen to be, so I would just have to figure you are making a prejudged assumption that is not supported by any actual fact. I do not use my status as a minority to prove superiority over some other, I use it as an illustration of having personal knowledge of what being a minority is rather than just spewing off about a topic with no contextual parallel to what is being discussed.
As for the word, I never 'rejected' a definition of the word since it was explained to me and I quote ""Binary" means you fit into either the traditional "male" or "female" gender mold. Cisgender is the opposite of transgender--it's when your physical body and mental/emotional gender line up. It's being used as an insult lately, but it's literally no more of an insult than saying you're homosexual as opposed to heterosexual." Now, it's the other user that gave the explanation that "It's being used as an insult lately", which leaves the word open to interpretation on how someone is using it toward another person. I did not offer up that definition, the other use did and I note you seem to have ignored that out right. After being told this, I looked up the word myself, and I have indeed found rather nasty and what one could say hate filled rants going on and on about "cisgenders". A fact You can't deny so, since it was a term brought out of no where to describe me, it left me open to determine which of the 2 definitions the way it was used in context to how and when it was said. (Ironically the individual who said it has since apologized and we have come to what I hope is at least a mutual understanding on the topic in what I hope is a mutually felt adult and respectful way.)
And my insinuations are based purely on the attempts to belittle me in your comments, which were unnecessary and uncalled for since you don't know me, have no idea of my mental capacity or educational level, nor any idea about how I feel one way or another about the subject of discussion or the people involved on it. You just went with an assumption and made statements based off of them. A very bad habit to do because it easily leads you to making prejudice assumptions about people you don't know. I simply have a lack of knowledge about what those, who once would have identified themselves as transgender, now want for people to call themselves. And if it were such a world wide known thing, there nobody would have confusion on the subject they would just do it. But clearly since that is not the case, it would do well to not insult people who at the very least are genuinely trying to learn about the topic to better comply with the level of verbiage you demand people to use, otherwise you may, in a self-fulling prophecy way, create the very situation you claim to not want people to do in how they treat such individuals.
Now, since you really seem to want to know my true feelings on the subject, so that you can stop attempting to make psychological evaluations on my motives, I am 100% fine with people who would identify themselves as transgender, gay, and any other non heterosexual category you want to bring up, because ultimately a person has to live their own lives and have to find happiness in their ownselves, with the people they choose to do so with. My life is not directly going to be affected by their decisions just as their lives won't be directly be affected by my own. I don't make judgements based on WHAT people think they are, I base my evaluation on a person based on the type of person the prove themselves to be. If you're an asshole it really doesn't matter to me what category of human being you want to identify yourself as. Because a person's character and actions speak much louder than what they claim to be in my book. So if you want to say you are a female in a male's body and want to be identified as such, fine, but if you're going to act like an insufferable human being with a very detestable personality, that the appropriate world to identify such a person will be what I use to label them as, since that would be the one that would really be most important in my opinion.
So if you don't want people to think you're being an ass, the stop acting like one and putting words in people's mouths.
my kind?
Why not us people?
us as in you and me.
Just dont use the damn label, simple. Don't use tansperson, use your gender.
Probably why trying to categorize people by labels isn't a good idea instead of just judging them based on the type of person they are as
an individual.
It shouldn't be used at all as an insult. imo. You don't want to fall into the stigma of labeling someone different than you in a negative light. From what I understand, after being explained to, being cisgender isn't necessarily a bad thing? It just means we're happy and identify with the gender that we're born with.
..And..what do you mean by "you and your kind?" o_O
Can't help if you don't let us, ya know?
If transpersons are going to be forced to fall under the label of 'trans', then it makes sense to have an alternate word to refer to people who aren't trans, and to avoid hurt feelings by not referring to those non-trans people as 'normal', since that infers that transpersons are abnormal, which is a negative connotation.
"Your kind" was referring to cispeople, as it's generally assumed to be the majority, and the majority of any situation tends to be the one coining terms as they do not stick when they're not accepted in a widespread population.
From Wikipedia:
"Internet use
The word cisgender has been used on the Internet since at least 1994, when it appeared in the alt.transgendered Usenet newsgroup in a post by Dana Leland Defosse.[8] Defosse does not define the term and seems to assume that readers are already familiar with it. It may also have been independently coined a year later: Donna Lynn Matthews, the charter maintainer of the alt.support.crossdressing usenet group, attributed the word to Carl Buijs, a transsexual man from the Netherlands, claiming that Buijs coined the word in 1995.[9] In April 1996, Buijs said in a Usenet posting, "As for the origin, I just made it up. I just kept running into the problem of what to call non-trans people in various discussions, and one day it just hit me: non-trans equals cis. Therefore, cisgendered."[10][11]
In February 2014, Facebook began offering "custom" gender options, allowing users to identify with one or more gender-related terms from a curated list, including cis, cisgender, and others.[12][13]"
Everything you said regarding your own actions is simply shedding responsibility for choosing to respond to an explanation to YOUR OWN question in an immature way.
I apologize for speaking in anger and offending you, but you have utterly lost my respect not based on your viewpoint on trans people (which I would agree with; trans, cis, straight, gay, bi, whatever, all humans have a responsiblity to not act like a dick in order to not be treated like a dick), but based on your choice to actively re-context things in your own mind into insults for no reason other than the sake of argument. That does not advance society, that regresses society into a selfish and childish way of thinking.
In no way did I put any words in your mouth, I simply responded to what you said. I've said it before, I'll say it again - if you don't like the way your words or actions look through another's impartial eyes, it's your responsibility to not come off that way in the future, not the responsibility of the observer to change their perspective.
As this conversation is getting us nowhere, I'd like to simply extend a hand and say that I apologize if I said anything offensive, and leave it at that. Have a good weekend.
It often helps to be able to say "I'm trans," so people don't get confused. Obviously this isn't accurate for everyone, and people who can easily pass usually DO just use their gender rather than slapping 'trans' as the prefix. For the rest of the non-cis population, informing people of your gender identity isn't about labeling or forcing pronouns down someone else's throat, it's about trying to diffuse potentially awkward situations, avoiding legal trouble (IE: going into a bar passing great and handing over a license with misgendered info and a photo that shows you as your AAB sex), and easing into a gender role in a very gender-oriented society that you may not have grown up in.
Why can't 'trans' and 'cis' just be assumed to have the same connotations as 'you' and 'me'? Why does there have to be a negative or offensive stigma attached to either? Qualifiers do not always equal labels, and vice versa.
Until society stops being 'asinine', as you put it, those qualifiers are going to continue to be necessary. There is no equality until everyone is equal, and as this journal shows, unfortunately that's not the case in our current society.
Ask those who use them as insults why there must be negative stigma then. I certaintly dont like it.
I didn't ask to be born how I am. Neither did others.
Hopefully as more people recognize that everyone deserves respect, that sort of mentality will begin to fade out of existence.
And I mean "You and your kind" as those who are 'normal'. Those who don't have to worry about being maimed or killed for going in to the 'wrong' bathroom. Those who think that futa, herms, 'dick chicks' and 'cunt boys' are fetish fodder. Who think that the terms dick chick and cunt boy are OKAY TO USE (btw, they're NOT, they're HIGHLY offensive, as are MOST herm and futa characters, but that's for another argument). But, y'know. It's whatever.
hm.. ok
I see this all the time in the lgbt community. whether it is from trans to 'cis', lesbian and gays to bisexual, straights to gays etc. Even in the one group who we are supposed to be supporting each other in, we fight and pick apart one another over issues and who is the most 'opressed'.
I dont even see normal with people honestly, who the hell is normal? what is normal?
Why does being labeled cisgender offend you any more than being labeled heterosexual/homosexual/caucasian/asian/african/vegan/republican would? It is the same concept; there is no malice or ill intent behind it, it is a description of one aspect of your state of being.
I find it funny how you don't see the irony in not wanting someone to label you as something you don't feel you are while at the very same time trying to do the very thing you don't want done to you, to other.
I personally don't care what you choose to label yourself, because ultimately that's your issue/right to do so and frankly going into semantic debates is a pain in the ass. I'm just going to judge people based on the type of PERSON they actually are and the full measure of what I'm seeing in how you and the other individual has behaved in all this as given me enough of a measure to make a persona assessment on that front.
I'll just give this advice, you live life worrying about what people are going to call you, you're going to miss out on actually living life to it's fullest capacity because you'll always be defensive and never happy with the YOU you are and always worrying about the you you think people think you are.
BUT DON'T YOU DARE CALL ME A SNAKE
being reminded of what I am makes me sad in places :'(
It sounds like, "no pictures of kids ever! This includes pornographic content etc."
Hmmm. Does a zero dollar and zero cent "purchase" count from Daz 3d Studio, or was I in violation of the TOS.
For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
Time to start from scratch, do my own stuff. Host my own material. Grrr.
You might try sharecg http://www.sharecg.com/ to host your models and/or art generated from them.
I'm talking about any artwork, image or picture being produced or made from any of your rigged models, rather than the use a generator or software program that makes 3d objects algorithmically or by other means. I hope that is clearer.
Daz 3d Studio (unless they have changed their user agreement) allows for images being produced from their product to be used without undue restrictions. The copyright restrictions seem to be concerned with models themselves, rather than their use in renderings or image making from. They provided much in the way of content that was free of additional costs. If one has to actually purchase content, compensated via some currency mechanism, to use it here on FA, to comply with the TOS and AUP, then many images would be out of compliance here wit the current agreement in place.
It would also seem, given their wording, that user produced/made/created 3d objects would not comply as well, as no money changed hands in their creation or production.
* * *
They may not. It is a bit of a task to find a suitable site that is receptive to certain styles or flavor of artwork or an audience that is receptive as well.
Or self created/made works. I guess one could pay oneself and be compliance.
The current language in the TOS/AUP, to my way of thinking, is ambiguous and subject to many ways of interpretation. There are paragraphs that apparently going to be removed. However, that doesn't make clear the current language in the TOS/AUP. This was my interpretation, which may or may not be correct. So far it has not caused any issues here.
I have had occasional problems with other sites having conflicting policies with regards to use of public domain images in derivative works, for example. In that case I just removed the image.
"Drug Use: Contains mild drug use, including excessive or persistent consumption of alcohol or tobacco. It also may include incidental or comedic use of drugs such as marijuana, sativa, hallucinogens, or prescription pharmaceuticals, and implied, non-graphic use of other drugs, such as heroin."
I think you guys meant Salvia there. Sativa is marijuana lol.
I actually had to google "stavia". Drugs are bad m'kay.
and idk what stavia is. haha.
or is that /stevia/?
Maybe it will be fixed in Project Phoenix? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH~ I won't hold my breath.
/dick-mode
The reason is simple, it's not artistic at all, it's been way over done so it spam to an art website, it's nothing more than a recolor. There are other places you can upload to that allow just about anything to be uploaded, just link back from one of those sites when showing your ref.
What if we wanted to take pictures with our badges. Just to make a couple of nice selfies, but we wear different character badges. /:
Well done.
TG
Can you please clarify with what seems like a big issue of debate?
Are the butt/panties/hand down pants/ swinging tits icons considered to be "general"?
Sorry if you've answered this already, it's hard to wade through over a thousand comments.
Thank you!
"Sexual Situations: Free of any sexual themes with exception to brief displays of affection, such as a kiss or hug."
I know it's not something I want to show up on my browser while I'm on my lunch break at work, hence "Not Safe For Work" and not general in my mind.
It's so interesting to watch all the stupid people lick each others buttholes.
Maybe I shouldn't have differing opinions.
Who wants to see moobs anyhow? >_>;
that site has their EVERYTHING figured out and NO ONE complains about their rules/TOS/AUP
why you ask?
BECAUSE, DRAGONEER DOESNT OWN THE SITE, SOMEONE ELSE DOES!
WHY ELSE?
BECAUSE DRAGONEER ISNT EVEN ON THAT SITE!!!
WHY /ELSE/???
WEASYL IS JUST AN ALL AROUND AWESOME SITE TO BE ON
it is easier to load on all devices, takes up little internet space, uploads are faster, ratings are better and more lenient, the admins can actually get PUNISHED for stupid things
yea, so when these admins do bad things dragoneer pets them on the head and praises themand EVERYONE THERE IS SO FUCKING NICEIt has potential, I would just like to see people stick around.
Check their forum threads about the community guidelines update...it took two threads. People complained...a lot!
TOS /AUP update = same uproar as here, on some of the same issues (Nipplegate, content generator images). It's not all sunshine and roses. Not "everything" is figured out. Some of the ratings are equal to, or even more strict than here. So...
Tl;dr It's a website. People will complain. The owners and admins will have headaches. Not everything will appeal to all users. Fan or not of the site, it isn't free of the same issues as here, and will have different issues as well. There may be a different administrative style, more features, etc and so forth, but it's got its detractors as well. Every site will, especially as it grows.
But...cute icon. ^^
and thanks XD
It's not clarified. You only speak of pelts. What of cleaned skulls/bones, wet preserves, and freeze dried? You say nothing of those, leaving people to guess at what is acceptable.
Situations like this is why I get so frustrated. I take no part in taxidermy at this time, but I see this big missed area that no one involved with the rules seems to thinks about.
Is "Free of nudity of any kind, including outlines of genitalia, female nipples, or bulges" on the general rating section of AUP means I cannot posts arts that contains nudity but without nipples and genitalia being shown?
If so, I might need to change ratings for my certain artworks (especially the K-Girl artworks).
Could we just change the nudity thing to 'no nipples of any kind showing at all'?
I'm fairly sure the nonbinary and trans people are going to burst a blood vessel over this trying to demand a definition of female and male while simultaneously saying they don't care about the definition and it's really hard to get brain matter off the ceiling when their heads explode.
Men should learn self control.
I personally would not want to show my boobs just because being over weight, they hang to levels they should not haha. But if women want to they should not be restricted I believe. Same thing with bras, yes they help but you get dirty dirty looks if you dont wear one, like its a requirement of women. All this really started because man was the superior sex in olden times, and sadly...a lot of men while wont admit it, still act that way. A lot of women too. But with this generation, yours, mine and younger, I see a lot of great changes happening all ready and im sure, this being one that has been a war for so long will soon become normal. It just takes time! America is so slow to change, but it happens.
BTW: I think the idea of finding non-sexual parts on females offensive can be most easily seen in many Arab countries. In America / Europe / etc, it's only offensive to see a female's breasts. In Arab countries though, it's considered the same way to see one's face. So females have to wear a veil and keep their face covered, same way females must wear a shirt for their breasts.
In reality though, I don't think breasts should be a much more sexual thing than the face by their self, since neither are naturally or logically related to a sexual function if we think about it. I mean sure, some find breasts more sexual which makes sense by itself, but that doesn't mean they are related to that as a function. Some people find feet / toes attractive for instance (have a fetish for that), but this doesn't mean it should offend someone to not wear shoes.
I mean, it takes time for all changes and a lot of changes are well on their way of happening. All it takes is for one person to raise their children not fearing the female breast idea, then those kids teach their kids and so on. I may be generations until its FULL accepted but as far as laws, I can for sure see it in our life time :)
-Mature content is abused; "Nudity: Contains partial or full nudity where the context is educational or artistic.
Sexual Situations: Contains mild sexual activity or themes, such as implied sex acts, light or comedic sexual fetish references or behavior, or mild sexual situations or discussion." (copied from the FA AUP)
I have seen COUNTLESS images flagged mature that should be flagged adult instead. How do I report them, and is there any use in reporting them - because people will STILL go against the rules??
-Photography abused; "3.1 - Self-portraits are limited to 3 uploads per account, unless the subject is wearing a costume.
3.2 - Images of mass manufactured items or collections of said items, including both modified or stock items (such as cars, guns with or without attachments, toys, plates), are restricted to the Scraps Folder and limited to no more than 3 per item or collection." (copied from the FA AUP)
Again, countless galleries FULL of these images of, for example, cars and toys - and they were not even in the scraps folder!
I'm always feeling worried when I'm browsing FA (I'm 19, so I shouldn't view any adult images on this site) - there is ALWAYS some adult images rated under mature content, tho it is against the rules. It wouldn't bug me so much, if the images weren't so disturbing...
It would be, however, full day job for me to report every single rule abuse I see on this site... There's just too much.
Does this mean we won't see anymore Minecraft "Pixelart"?
Because that's always bothered me on how that was acceptable for users to upload, since it's all done in a copyrighted game. Especially since all that pixel work can be done on MS Paint, because that's how I do my mediocre pixel art.
It should be ok, given that I suspect this rule was changed to prevent spamming of the front page or watchers' message lists for attention, rather than because having the images on the site is bad in general?
as MintChip said above, this need to be clarified further.
technically, it means that a photo i took of myself eating a steak is prohibited. (using a broad definition of animal that includes humans)
or, a photo i took of my cat eating meat cat food.
i'd suggest a modification along these lines:
3.9 - Photography of animals feeding on other non-prepared animals is prohibited.
I dunno..it doesnt make a lot of sense to me to do that and Im trans myself.
"4.1 - When you upload content to Fur Affinity via our services, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable, transferable right and license to use, host, store, cache, reproduce, publish, display (publicly or otherwise), perform (publicly or otherwise), distribute, transmit, modify, adapt, and create derivative works of, that content."
The way this is written implies that they can take your intelectual property whenever they want.
Basically, you're giving them a license to host your work and display it on your page, etc.
What should really be written is "You agree to allowing us to host your work on our servers and for furaffinity to manipulate said work for the creation of thumbnails etc. Explain exactly what you will do with said users content.
Just because the big money grabbing companies do it, doesnt mean you should.
That's not to say all of them are perfect. The best policies will include information on how you can terminate that license. (I.e, either party can unilaterally terminate the license at any time, barring a ~30 day period for the image to be removed from any content deliver network and caches).
Personally I think Tumblr has one of the clearest policies when it comes to that: http://www.tumblr.com/policy/en/terms-of-service (Check out Section 6, subscriber content license)
Also the nudity rule was probably done considering how 90% of furries are perverts and wont miss the chance to give even the gentlest nude a sexual connotation in the comments.
This is the hell we have done.
Would you be happy to see someone shitting in front of your house? Well now you get an idea of why that shit must go in adult.
You want children to see that?
Are you sexualizing nipples?
I think FurAffinity has this weird shift where it's primarily a porn/fetish site (let's not deny it), but there are minors allowed on here (for some reason), so there has to be these odd rules that the majority of the userbase seemingly doesn't like or understand. If this site was 18+ only, everyone could have their shitty bouncing tits/scrotums icons and flash all the nipples they want without having to cover things up under multiple ratings (or having them banned entirely) in order to shield a few young'uns' eyes.
Maybe Dragoneer feels that funding the site through donations and ads would be harder if this was marketed as a porn site? But I agree, I always thought FA should be 18+ only, and there are huge groups and fanbases on DeviantART that cater to furries/are furry-run, so I think younger furries wouldn't be missing much anyway if they were banned from here, since they can't see the porn here anyway and therefore most of what FA has to offer.
FA is not your personal bukkake.
You can still have general/non-adult rated art on a site that's still 18+. It would be stupid for FA to disregard that filter, because not everyone draws porn 24/7. Me having "a personal bukkake" to "fap to" isn't the problem I have here, so let me say it again for the vast chasm yawning between your ears: What I'm saying is that why not have the site be a minimum 18+ site (with the ability to post art of all kinds/ratings), but just have it completely geared to that age group as opposed to having this half-porn, half-kiddy website they have going on now, that hinders and wrecks the feelings of the majority because they have to cater to a tiny minority that really doesn't belong on FA and isn't targeted for most of the going-ons in this place. This site, trying to be everything at once, is spreading itself so thin that no one wins. Why not specialize in something and have a happier, more easier contained and controlled userbase that will finally be able to express themselves without worrying about about the tiny minority that is completely separated from everything that they do?
A+ debating skills. Goodbye.
I feel like FA is attempting to be everything at once while being absolutely nothing at all. It wants to cater to both minors and adults, but alienates both userbases. I think it should just cater to the ones actually contributing to the site and its well-being (the adults), and focus on making itself very good in that aspect. If it's worried about losing that minor userbase, if it specializes in something else and does it well, others will come in to fill its place. And if it really wants to be the "go-to" monopoly on furry, have a sister site for minors or something. The fact that you have a LOT of people complaining about "oh noes i can't show my nipple icons because of the chil'runs" says something.
And 18+ doesn't mean it has to be strictly a "porn site". It just means you need to be 18+ to register; you can still upload general/G-rated stuff, but the audience and general level of "maturity" here caters to an adult crowd. Sites like Inkbunny and (somewhat) SoFurry do the same thing.
I know there's a community to be found on DA of course, but man I don't spend enough actual time there, and groups sorta intimidate me in general. I tend to throw submissions in and then run away. lol
I used to be more social when I first joined DA years ago, but now I'm just kind of intimidated by everyone. 8| I should still work on it, though.
I do agree that groups seem like the best way to meet people with the same interests. 8| I wish more people actually used them that way.
But it seems like they are either, as you said, only there to compete, or are shy like I am. Neither way do you make friends.
And that's all it comes down to in the end, all these hard-core porn images are still allowed, they just need to be correctly categorised, so each user can see what they want to, requiring a simple choice of rating on posting, and nothing more.
I'd even go a step further myself, and suggest the option to block yourself from seeing certain types of images. Whereas everyone is free to post what they want, it doesn't infringe on their rights if I choose not to look at things I don't want to see.
And you're arguing against having non-porn on here, just to get grid of rules about what category it should be in, or did you forget your original argument?
Here is a site for furry art, every bit of space has its cost.
ALSO, this site is for fantasy.
Hell you got facebook for that last one.
Do bear in mind this site was created at a time when the majority of furry art sites didn't allow adult images at all, FA came along and said 'post your furry art here - including adult content' there was never a time when the site was solely for porn, and I hope such a time never comes, since that would alienate a large section of its user-base, and force a large section more to upload/view some art on one site and some on another.

It denotes either anger or sarcasm. Or both at the same time. 8|
I dunno what rock you've been living under.
Glorious how things can have added meanings after a while.
I'll get sucked into reading multiple articles if I go there.
As much as I love them, I'm not entirely sure... hrmm.
I never said all caps didn't mean rage. I simply implied it meant more than rage.
I usually use them for emphasis of certain words, admittedly...
I mean I read it as someone talking loudly, but highly sarcastically.
How were they discriminating your being heterosexual?????
I've now forgotten what the hell they were even talking to you about. lol
As in, if an artist draws a couple of boobs for mere art saie it gets baned but if a gay draws a green tiger dancing his ass with pink clothes carving for buttsecks, they dont ban it.
Just think about it man. Its an act against heteros.
I don't think they're banning anyone for having a boob icon either. Sending out warnings to change the uncensored ones, sure.
But then even I've gotten such a thing on an ass icon I did for my adult account, and it was a man's ass. (one of my own characters)
It was considered to be 'not safe for work' (well actually I was told it was against the AUP/TOS, when it hadn't been previously).
So, really the rules are confusing, as depending, they may make people take down ass icons too.
And, again, it's entirely possible that some/most of those swinging/dancing ass icons are going to be of girl asses.
I mostly ever see girl ass icons on this site.
That's only one icon, of one male character's ass. So unless you or I are able to find more evidence of there being a bunch of 'male butts' floating around, then the argument is only based upon one icon that just so happens to be in these comments, and isn't a real cause for concern.
Well, despite the fact that I'm queer, I don't plan on harming any of the heteros I come in contact with.
Unless they attack me first, that is. And, even then, I don't intend to be burning anyone. lol
But, besides that, why would homosexuals treat heterosexuals the same way they've been treated themselves? Isn't that a bit counterproductive?

cub art is no different it just happens to have anthro qualities its all children and you know that. Fuck yeah id look up guro, why? BECAUSE ITS NOT ILLEGAL.
Ever seen insanekangaroos fbi push on e621? Or whatever his name is, you know why he did that? Because lolix shota is inface illegal and hes allowed to. Cub is just desensitized loli, shota with erections for that "teehee were breaking no laws but its all pedophillia in its most basic form" do not come and tell me otherwise I am not stupid. I know what I see and thats exactly what I will always see. I do my research, do yours too. Couple it with the fact that I know hoe furries operate.

Insanejournal did something like that--they deleted everyone's "dead" accounts, and people lost their personal diaries, journals, memories, comments, history, etc., just because they hadn't logged in within two weeks. They lost EVERYTHING. Even if you were on vacation or the system fucked up (which it did) and didn't get the announcement that your account was getting deleted. Gone. Just so people could claim "cool" names for their shitty RPs and characters. It was complete and utter bullshit. So you can't have that cool one-word name? Get the fuck over it. I hate that people think they are entitled to something, and throw a stink because they didn't get there first. I'm glad DeviantART doesn't do this; I have accounts from years ago that I still revisit and look at my old art and stuff, and would be devestated if that was taken away (though I know I'm not guaranteed it, but they have stated they don't do the whole account reclaiming/trading shit).
Does anyone even actually enforce the "no bogus keywords" rule? Because I see keywords like that all the time, just people putting in joke tags or writing sentences in them that have NOTHING to do with the image, and I have never seen anyone get slapped for that.
Hopefully the photography rules will cut down on the amount of "HERE'S A PICTURE OF MY BELLY/FEET" photos that foot and feeder fetishists put up.
Sadly, I don't think the rules regarding the content to sell goods will cut down on the amount of "YCH/ADOPT AUCTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 43 SECONDS LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!111" spam that gets flooded on this site and on the front page.
3.7 - You agree that we reserve the right to remove, reclaim, or rename any account which has violated site policy or has been abandoned by its owner. An abandoned account is one which has not been logged into for a minimum of one year. At this time, they become eligible to be transferred upon user request. All content and information contained within the account will be deleted before the transfer is complete.
I really hope that they do consider the fact that if it had activity on it, it can't be reclaimed, but going by this, it sounds like they'll just delete everything anyway and transfer it over if someone asks. :(
For that matter, how would it affect user statistics and existing comments from the original user? I'm guessing a reset of the numbers and an Hidden by the Administration™ removal of every comment they ever made anywhere.
I had a friend who had the same situation as you: had a crazy stalker and had to switch accounts quite a few times to try and get rid of him. I would hate it if someone got her name and then alluvasudden had some ass-backwards dude all over them. Or, if someone got an account that used to belong to some huge shitheel or something. Just a horrible idea!
Weasyl does the same thing (release accounts), but they only do it if the account has NEVER had any activity on it, and only after three months. Doing so with an account that has had any activity on it just seems like a really stupid idea. :/ Again, just let the cool sparklefurs who want the "one-word" names take the panties out of their cracks and move on.
Here's hoping they don't ever get any requests to transfer it, though, and I'll try to log into it every now and then. It concerns me deeply that they've made this decision. Weasyl's policy sounds much more reasonable. I understand transferring accounts that have had no activity, or no significant activity, but if you built a noticeable identity under a user name, in a community... it should be your prerogative as to how long you wish to remain inactive.
My question is serious, since there's such confusion no matter how you do it, why not say they're all inappropriate?
Check e621, that site is 100% for fappers like you.
Nice. Also, why stopping here? Why dont you go out and protst so the entire internet may become just a host for porn? Fuck Wikipedia, internet should only exist for porn! That's what you want right?
> U r a retard
Sounds legit.
> Responds by arguing in FA
Is this the legit festival?
> Behaves like a 13 year old boy
The irony.
> Proceed to spam every disagreer with "lol spank bank user" because you don't like what they said
> When users finally give you a legitimate response, you spout EDiot terms like it's 2005 and still relevant and dismiss them
> Someone calls you out on your ineptitude
> You call them "butthurt" and continue to spam because they keep saying things you don't like
> Still doing it
You're nuttier than elephant shit, man, and you're so full of it there's no room left for brains. Go roll back on to 4chan; I think you've lost your way.
Why don't the both of us just pretend that last exchange never happened? Because I've just been flattened by your metric tonne of stupid.
I mean, it wouldn't be the first time someone's called me a name on the Internet because they lacked the articulation to disagree with me in a more enlightened fashion.
Lol go fap somewhere else if you dont like here.
Truly shows the intellect of this website, doesn't it?
Come back when you have something with statistical relevancy.
Now, less than 1000 in a planet with more than 6 billion habitants...
Want me to make it simple? You said that everyone debating this matter just wants to see tits in the general rating. I do not just want to see tits in the general rating. I have concerns about how FA is portraying themselves due to a social standard that is dying out. I have proved you wrong that everyone wants to see tits. I have asked you to not group people like me into a category we do not belong. All I was trying to let you know was there were better ways to voice your opinion like: "Honestly, I feel that most of the people debating the nipple situation just wants to see breasts in the general rating and have no real concern for the issue itself." You're voicing your own opinion freely without grouping the whole of innocent people in a bad light.
But I guess it doesn't matter how many times I explain it. You will always feel I'm just some woman that just "fucks the logic," even though I'm the one thinking about each and every word I type. I'm sorry to have wasted both of our times thinking that maybe showing you all of us on this side of the argument are not all the same. But I can only lead a horse to water, I cannot make it drink. And with this I bid you a good day and hope you enjoy the rest of it.
Big boobs denotes only one thing, more fat, boob tissue, and such on a woman's chest.
All women have the ability to produce milk for their young, no matter the size.
And considering my aunt who has the tiniest tits imaginable was able to still breastfeed her children, certainly says nothing about large tits being useful at all.
The only thing large tits do is cause back problems/pain. As someone who has a pair of large tits, of that I can assure.
I mean, sure, they're nice to look at, but that has very little to do with actual biology.
Also a lot of straight men don't like large boobs. They think they're disgusting.
So, for a real world reference, I pointed out that your correlation is fallacy because if that were true,
then she or anyone with small breasts wouldn't be able to produce milk for their young.
At least I can cite some evidence that I've literally witnessed.
My point is, that butts can be male, female, or well, any gender really.
So your assumption is that all the butts are male (and only for the male gaze). Totally ignoring the fact that most of them are probably going to be female.
I'm pretty sure most hetero men like women's asses. As much as they love their tits and their vagoos.
And quite a few hetero women like men's asses.
Ass does not suddenly equate, only for gay males and females respectively. :|
The number of times I see male asses as icons on here are...... few to none.
Other than that one jiggling in some of the comment threads on here.
If there's no female asses, feel free to smack me.
My point is that I've read a lot of issues about users having issues with FA admins and response times concerning drama. Could these maybe be worked on instead of adding folders? Reduced drama would be great.
I don't mind questionable comments on my stuff at all in the slightest, but PLEASE let me ensure that if anything 18 and over gets posted by someone in a journal of mine or a general picture I can flag it as adult to hide it from minors.
agreed!
mind most of my stuff is nature (plants and the like) i can see beauty in everything.
Just wanting to clarify.
Giving furries power can never go well it seems.
Why do you guys think that these rule changes matter, when rules aren't enforced to begin with? I have friends with TT's that are a year or more old. I have one that is five months old, another that's three months old, and a third that I closed myself, because someone directly called me a "c**t", on a post I made, which generated a lot of debate over a game. I didn't feel like having the debate anymore, so I deleted the post, before anyone could get around to penalizing the user who was harassing me. I have NO DOUBT that this trouble ticket would still be pending, to this day, even if I had not deleted the post in question.
Rules only matter when they're enforced properly.
Well, that's going to throw a wrench at certain people... certain people whose accounts are nothing BUT advertisements... but still.
Nudity: Free of nudity of any kind, including outlines of genitalia, female nipples, or bulges. Nudity is defined as the open display of genitalia, or exposed, female nipples.
Are bare bottoms not counted as nudity?
Strictly speaking, genitalia refers exclusively to male and female reproductive organs. Is that the definition the staff intends? Some prudes incorrectly include other body parts as "genitalia".
Will old content that does not adhere to these new rules be removed from the site? If so, will moderators be pro-active and look for old content that is no longer allowed, or will they only remove it if the old content is reported?
---
Outside of all that, I approve of rules that bring FA in accordance with the law of the country and state in which it is hosted. I may not agree with the laws, but they are on the books. Furries ostracized as they are, some well-meaning prosecutor could go after that which he or she didn't understand, and prompt a costly legal battle or site cleanup effort. It is typical of furries to assume everything that happens to them is the result of persecution. Sorry, people, but these laws apply to any site offering risque pictures, whether they are anthropomorphic or not. It's not a huge burden for porn sites to have an "I am over 18" checkbox, and if FA wanted to, they could make it that easy to access adult content too.
I take zero issue with changes that merely affect the classification of content that is still allowed to remain on the site.
I strongly disagree with any AUP changes that bring FA beyond what the law requires, and in fact are self-imposed censorship.
Content featuring minors, if there is nudity or sexual activity present, is prohibited. Minors are real or fictional humanoids with a childlike body or younger than 18 years old, and talking or feral animals which are similarly immature.
I could be wrong, but I don't think it's illegal to create fictional pornography of an animal. Not an anthropomorphic, halfway-between-two-things animal, but a real actual animal. If my belief is correct, then this is just FA over-reaching, perhaps to ensure that they don't get busted for pictures of "minors".
"Sexual activity" is vague. People, especially on here, have all kinds of fetishes. Is inflation art "sexual"? Vore? Spanking? Etc.
"Childlike body" is vague. How about "appears to be younger than 18 years old"?
they asked the same bare bottom question about minors.
I completely agree with the under 18 look vs child like bodies.
are my journals linking to my youtube account with my let's play stuff still safe and/or ok?
and along with that:
is it still ok for me to link to youtube music i find interesting?
thanks, in advance.
i'm just making sure.
and no, my channel is /generally/ pg. i play the leisure suit larry games, though, which is about as risque as it's likely to get.
"Hey guys I"m having an icon coloring commission stream come on by and donate for all my hard work." YEAH OKAY BUDDY
before you guys go and get overzealous saying you're going to punish people breaking the aup, please DEAL WITH YOUR TICKETS.
i know mine is only a few days old, but i've read, around the site, that there are tickets that are - sometimes - years old.
so, please don't make "rules" like these if you're not already working on the tickets you already have.
i'm just making sure that they realize that there's trouble in paradise.
you want to ban more people? maybe you should start by dealing with the dumb number of tickets you already have?
If thats not heterophoby, then I dont know what it is.
I'm against the banning of boobs but because they're not a sexual part of the body.
You're against 'gay' butts in particular, which is very homophobic. I'm sure there are female butts dancinc out there too, but you only talk about the 'gays'. Not males, 'gays' and that's why you're instantly marked as a homphobe and nothing you say past that will prove otherwise.
Also, heterophobia doesn't exist. No one is afraid of heteros and scared they'll ruin their way of life by being hetero.
Homophobia is a creation of ignorant bigots and has only always been a one-sided ideology by those same ignorant bigots.
Check your privilege. You don't have it nearly as bad as gays do, and saying such is idiotic.
Also:

Try someone else, I'm done with you.
I don't get how everyone needs to showcase their fetish in their avatar.
Wish people had some taste and just use a good ol' fashioned character face or something.
Already shown me this site cant be fair or equal.
You can put up with the "double standard" or have no site.
Federal law very much considers exposed female breasts to be inherently sexual and thus not child-appropriate material. There are a few areas within the US where women can walk about topless with impunity, but they are very much the exception to the rule.
That's funny, it's like they forgot that babies suck on them daily for nourishment, and that that's their only usage.
If you don't stand your ground everywhere, you'll never have the footing needed to change anything.
(not that I'll ever change anything, I'm just one person)
Say the admins throw their hands up and say "okay, we fucked up, we're changing the rules so that female breasts can be allowed under general". All it takes is one mean-spirited dickass reporting to whoever hosts FA that the site is openly allowing minors to view material that United States federal law considers inappropriate for them, and then bam, no more site because said host withdraws their support.
Is it really worth costing thousands of people what basically amounts to their sole place of business just to win a tiny ideological victory that absolutely nobody who isn't involved in the furry community will know or care about?

Things I cannot do:

-be funny
The avatar I use - a wolf/orca anthro and merfur)- is pieced together from avatars and mod-kits from several different creators; not just furry-creators but also those who create hair, clothing, etc. for other avatars. I did not actually MAKE those avatars, but I did pay the creators for them and modified them to create my own avatar. The locations/sims where I take the screenshots all have different creators and may include decorative items, trees, rocks, etc. that were made by other people as well.
I just want to clarify that this is allowed? Or should I post names of creators, or their Second Life stores (if known)?
Thanks!
Also, why not have images made from content generators? I made one a LONG time ago. I mean, what if we give a link to the generator?
just say "No nips allowed in general pics" and voila, no more hate. although untill then it's just gonna be YET ANOTHER exodis to other sites most likely
So instead of letting the stream services deal with allowing music and movies in an FA artists stream, you are saying "YOU" don't allow it and that it isn't up to the stream site. That's not for you to decide, especially if the movie or music was bought by the streamer, that is up to the stream site to decide not you.
Unless your openly streaming and advertising "Hey I am streaming this movie that totally still in theaters." I don't think that's For FA to decide. Though with how slow TT tickets are i doubt this even matters cause by the time its noticed its gonna have happened about 3 months beforehand, and will have already been pulled down.
My crime was to just point out the very heterophobic policies the site has recently taken, and what do I have in exchange? Repression and intimidation.
Remember: people here have trouble tickets since months or years ago, and they dont give a damn, but if someone like me DARES to speak against them, I receive a warning and verbal intimidation.
Also, are you sure your being hetero was the actual reason for you being reprimanded?
If being treated with decency is a special privilege, then I'd assume heterosexuals know all about it.
There has seemed to be an assumption that all ass icons are of man ass anyway. Even though I think a majority of them are actually girl ass.
Personally though, I like both boob icons and butt icons, so eh.
Do women suddenly not swing their asses around too?
And that's humorous, since girl icons are 90% of what I see.
Of course, if FA just had multiple ratings/tiers for icons, that'd be great, but since they don't, why not at least keep your "face" general/for all audiences? Or show something sexy while covering up? A silhouette or form-fitting/"revealing" clothes can do wonders (like maybe a crop top or a V-neck; cleavage without letting it ALL hang out).
I heard there was a loophole if you added your own text onto the picture or added your own "unique" content to it, such as captions and stuff to a GMod comic strip for example.
Submission themes are messed up and there was no need to change them at all.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it; I'm fairly certain that people were comfortable with what we had before; it WORKED. We could FIND THINGS.
Now that the submission themes are all different, they're all empty because no-one's submitted anything to them. Instead of adult fiction being placed within an adult section, now it's just thrown in with clean stuff? Really?
No, I see what you're trying to do, but... goddamn, guys; it's things like this that make you lose users.
... Back to E621 I go I suppose, they've at least got a sorting system that works and that they're not going to buttrape any time soon.
Seriously.
I don't know ANYONE who wanted this. I don't see how this has benefited the site in ANY WAY other than to help those who didn't want to find stuff with the browse function to find even LESS.
It worked before. The sorting was fine. We could find stuff, we could post stuff, we could USE it, it WASN'T A CLUSTERFUCK of STUFF which most will be too lazy to look through and everyone else will become frustrated with. The Search function at least gives us the option to remove ratings of content, this is just the Search function with no results and no options.
As a long time user, I am not impressed and not pleased.
A lotta people here suck at tagging their stuff/mess.
