Archetype Informer is back, and we're taking on a new league of warriors today! Well, technically they're old, but they have some new tricks up their sleeves, so lets dive into Heroics!
Much like the majority of decks these days, these guys have the primary function of swarming monsters to XYZ Summon from the Extra Deck. However, unlike most archetypes, they actually have other aspects of them that make them very flexible. They can search out themselves, manipulate their ATK to very high stats, redirect attacks, and overall make attacking them a bad idea
First, let us tackle the archetype's cards:
MONSTERS
Heroic Challenger - Clasp Sword
Heroic Challenger - Ambush Soldier
Heroic Challenger - Sword Shield
Heroic Challenger - Extra Sword
Heroic Challenger - Assault Halberd
Heroic Challenger Spartas
Heroic Challenger - Thousand Swords
Heroic Challenger Night Watchman
Heroic Challenger - Double Lance
Heroic Challenger - War Hammer
SPELLS
Heroic Chance
TRAPS
Heroic Advance
Heroic Gift
Heroic Retribution Sword
EXTRA
Heroic Champion - Excalibur
Heroic Champion - Gandiva
Heroic Champion - Kusanagi
Number 86: Heroic Champion Rhongomiant
Next up, here are some cards these guys can benefit from:
1.) The usual Warrior-esqe staples like Reinforcement of the Army and The Warrior Returning Alive for searching out key monsters for a giving situation
2,) Call of the Haunted for bringing back monsters for XYZ Summons or to make use of your Spells and Traps to take the offensive with
3.) Foolish Burial to help with plays involving Double Lance and Ambush Soldier
4.) For you players focusing on the Number, Overlay Capture and XY Revenge can help extend your monster's usefulness by taking overlay units
Now, as per most decks that swarm and XYZ, there aren't many actual combos you can pull off outside of playing something just to bring something else out. But Heroics freshen things up a bit with their support:
1.) If you have Spartas out with another Heroic monster, you can use his ability to gain ATK, and if you chain Advance to it, not only will his ATK double AND get his own ability's bonus, but since Advance stops battle destruction, the chain resolves with your opponent's monster having to attack a super powered Sparta twice for massive damage
2.) If you want to get out monsters quickly for the Number, Special Summon Halberd and then bring out Thousand. Discard a monster (preferably Double Lance or Ambush Soldier for future plays) to bring out another monster (if its Extra Sword, you'll have more ATK to work with) and you'll have a three unit Rhongomiant
3.) With Ambush Soldier, you can bring out two new Heroics and change their levels to one. Bring Clasp Sword out next and you have enough materials to make Number 54: Lion Heart!
Heroics have flown under the radar for awhile now, but they have potential to not only make a comeback, but to start making a firm presence within the game. Why not help them out and give them a try?
