Star Control 2! (Ur-Quan Masters)

Finally finished Star Control 2! One of my favorite games of all time, and one I've kept playing on and off through the years.
For those not familiar with the game, you take on the role of a starship captain only to find earth and the member species of the old Alliance of the Free Stars enslaved. You then must go on a great adventure of exploration, diplomacy, building your fleet and finally warfare to bring on the downfall of the Ur-Quan masters.
It's game full of such wonderful creativity and an engaging story, especially considering the era it hails from. So much loving little detail has been put into it, like each species you encounter also has their own theme song and even a font which is descriptive of their nature. Each of course also has their own distinctive ships and technologies, many of which you get to try out as well. As you begin the game you are granted complete freedom of choosing where to go and how to approach the challenge, facing a multitude of mysteries to unravel along the way. What's also neat is that the game does not underestimate it's player, though if you keep your wits about you there's plenty of guidance to nudge you in the right direction as well (Taking notes is recommended).
The game was actually released to public domain a while back, and since then the fans have created a HD remake combining all the best features of the original releases.
A great introductory video to the game,

Having spoken the words and understanding the reasons why the Ur-Quan are doing what they are was such a good plot element too.
Ah, love this game.
