It is a scam system for lawyers and judges to get fat and rich off of people bye heavy-handedly dragging out court sessions until the those on trial have nothing left to pay with, other than their name and often times, their lives...
Guilty or not, you are forced to pay... Pay for months, or years, until you are proven guilty or innocent, or until you are unable to pay any more, and forced to "bargain out" to a lesser charge....
Makes me sick.
I do hope things are resolved swiftly and justly for ScientificVixen's family, and hope that some means of reimbursement for being in the right is made for them.. Though, I won't hold me breath on that second part..

And yeah, the system sucks. My family had to go through a similar process a few years ago; it was terrible. :/
