Rant and commission info update! (EDIT)
11 years ago
Starting off with a little, pretty important, rant:
I know I make a point of this with each commission journal, but I'm going to state it here. When you're buying a commission from someone, be SURE to send the paypal payment as "paying for goods and services," absolutely NOT a gift.
It's a nice thought, as when you send money as a gift through paypal, the person receiving the money doesn't have to pay any fees. However, if paypal catches someone dodging fees while they are conducting business and not TRULY receiving that money as a gift, THE ARTIST CAN BE BANNED. And, considering that this is, uh, my job, I would rather not enjoy having my only source of income snatched from me.
I'm making a point of this because despite telling people to send it as 'paying for goods', both in my commission journals and in the notes describing how payment will go down, a couple people seemed to have forgotten and sent commission payments as a gift, anyway. Which is uncool. Don't people banned, guys ;w;
But, so. The "Commission update," part. I've made a decision that from this point forward, I will no longer be handling payments how I have in the past, as I just really REALLY cannot risk losing my paypal. From now on, I will be sending paypal invoices to commissioners, and they will pay that way. This is easier for both parties, anyway, so.
SCRATCH THAT, I will not be doing invoices. What I will be doing is even more simple, on my end at least (thanks Hydro!). I will be sending a "money request" to your e-mail, through paypal. From that e-mail, you will be directed to a page where you can pay amount necessary. Super simple!
Thanks for reading! 'w'/)

FA+

However, I just found out that "Money Requests" are a simpler way to do the same thing, so read the last paragraph of the journal again for updated info~ (Sorry for any confusion ;u; )
I honestly didn't know there was a different way of sending the money. PayPal likes to flaunt their "Send money to friends and family" button. In fact I had to do some digging to find the "Paying for goods and services" button.
Of course I in no way meant to harm anyone, I was simply uneducated. Haven't had my paypal for long, nor have I been ordering from people for very long.
So once again, thank you! xD
Their "simplified" layout takes you straight to a nice little home page that only includes one button for money transfers. It doesn't properly inform newer users to PayPal that there are other means of money transfers.
To be fair it's an honest mistake, and making people feel bad for their mistakes is quite rude.
Of course I never intentionally meant to harm anyone in it. In fact when I've asked artists how to send the money none of them told me I was doing anything wrong. They never specifically stated to send it via "Payment for Goods and Services". This is why I make sure I ask how things work before doing it, because I want to avoid mistakes.
But, yes, I can understand that to an extent, but when people are sending me money via gifts and jeopardizing my job... you can see why i'd take issue. lol.
