Something to Consider When Asking for Commissions [Re-Post]

That first note you send to me, asking me for a commission...just tell me what it is you want. Don't ask me if you can tell me...JUST TELL ME. Be descriptive. I don't care if it goes on forever. The worst thing ever is when I have to message back and forth a million times to get all the info out. And if you have references, JUST LINK THEM. If they are not safe for work, just say "not safe for work" or something. I am more likely to not want to draw for you if you drag me through millions of notes.
"Hi I want a commission."
"Please tell me what you want, and provide references to character you want drawn."
"I want my character really fat."
"Can you link me your character, and describe how fat? Car sized? Planet sized? If you find other pictures that have a size you are looking to get, please link it."
"As big as you can. How much?"
"PLEASE LINK ME YOUR REFS. And 'big as I can' could mean anything. I'd really like a description or reference, otherwise I will just make him this size (provides link of how big I think would be good.) Also I can't tell you how much until you give me your refs and we figure out what I am drawing."
"Ya thats good, when do you want money. I don't have paypal."
"Sorry I am gonna have to decline to draw this pic."
Now here is an example of a good commission request.
"Hi. Can I get one of your 30$ sketchmissions. Its of my character (provides link). Can you draw him really fat. Like as big as a house, sorta like this picture (provides link of example).
"Sure. I will sketch the pic, link it and then you can paypal me to finish it."
Like, its not hard! And if there are still things that need to be worked out, thats fine. I just hate chasing after BASIC info. ARG ARG ARG VENT VENT VENT.
EDIT : If anyone reads this and thinks I am referring to JUST THEM or something, this is an ongoing problem with lots of people. This is me blowing off steam.
EDIT 2 : The only sympathy I have is for people who feel like they need to send something short and fast so they can 'get a slot' and maybe don't know what they want just yet, they just know they want SOMETHING. Thats fine, but after the first post, get to the point.

Be as specific as possible! It's nice that some people think we like to be open and free with a commission, but sometimes it's harder and takes longer to work on a commission with a vague description. Some artists have a lot of other commission work to go through and the sooner they get yours done, the better for everyone! If you want your character in a car, link as some pictures of cars you like; if you want a character from the 30's, maybe link us some cool clothes from that era that you'd like your character dressed in - heck some people have even provided me with rough sketches they did of a layout for the commission! This way the artist can speed through your commission and you get EXACTLY what you want :D
