Thank you - that's a good idea. Usually I price by an average of how long it takes me an an hourly rate. How do I create an auction for a commission? I've only ever seen people make a design and auction it specifically.

Yeah, that sounds reasonable. However you got to see this site as an open market, so it's unfortunately not only the artwork itself but also the popularity or size of your audience that you need to consider when making prices - at least here on fA :S

And there is no official way to make an auction. You need to set up things on your own.. usually tails make sketches of a pose and offer "Your Character Here!" auctions, basically making their character out of the sketch for a finished drawing. But you can also upload an advertisement about auctioning a commission or something like that.
In any way, you'll see that you can continuously ask for higher prices the more people want to commission you. So if to start over some advertisement is inevitable; do freebie raffles, offer freebies or start your auctions with a first bid of $0 - anything like that.
