I have seen the quality decline in their furs. Worse backing, matted and crushed furs, and bad batches of fur that ruins in months. I tend to look towards DF furs now from other places over what CRs gets. They used to order from marilyns furs which were produced decently. I don't know where they get it from now. Seems like it may be from a cheaper source.

they have been just fine for me lately. then again, I live about a 1.5 hour drive from them so they probably figure that I can come down and give them a stern talking to. I have pretty much given up on the teddy bear white. It was April 3rd when I put in an order with Monterrey Mills. After writing a letter to MM's CEO with no response, my sales contact still doesn't have a clue.

Just curious, ever consider importing fur from alibaba? There's faux fur makers there, often direct sources for craft places. You'd need to order in bulk, but perhaps you could request a sample from the makers until you find one that is right for you.

haha I was just going to suggest that. It's hard to understand them at times since the companies I converse with are from Asia and you need to buy in bulk, but most will send you a sample.

I thought of this too recently while having trouble locating a orangish peach fur. Unfortunately when you order from them most of the minimums are 300 meters (300 yards) which equates out to 900 ft... generally you wouldnt use more than 15-25 yards of total fur on a suit...

The statistics of finding storage for that many 60" bolts is insane, not to mention the cost of buying that much fur would be $7,500 without tax, duties, shipping, etc

Just my 2 cents on this topic.
As business owners, #1 we do not have time to attempt to fix an inferior product. #2, I would feel like an absolute ass getting less than stellar fur, mickey mousing with it so its somewhat 'ok' then try to pass it off to a customer (who has paid a crapton of money) as a top notch high quality product.
We DEPEND on our manufacturers and retailers to deliver to us a pristine product. That is why this issue with Monterrey Mills Teddy Bear White is such an issue. Its fantastic stuff and it can not be easily replaced with another textile mill's product. Its just frustrating as hell.

I agree, and concerning #2 even if I can fix the fur to be pristine and perfect to meet the high standards these suits hold #1 still heavily applies.
like, I managed to get that DF fur perfectly clean but I was still miffed as hell wasting the better half of a day fixing it and with no monetary compensation from DF for sending me dirty fur in the first place.

Might it be possible to contact Monterey Mills about this issue, and ask if they have any other retailers besides CR's? And even if they don't, perhaps they would like to know what is happening to their product after it leaves their factory.

that's been done a long time ago. Other than fursuitsupplies.com selling a few MM items, CR's is their #1 retailer of their product. MM's main focus is paint rollers whereas the fur production is secondary. The fur we need has been out of production for 5 months and we keep being told that it will be just another month... just another month. TJ this has been an ongoing battle for quite a while now. Who knows? Maybe the rise of fursuits being made is causing this shortage as there were zero production issues before 2012. However, they have always had the issue of the last 2 yards of their product on the roll be a crumpled crappy mess. CR's knows that we are desparate for certain MM furs, perhaps they just sent this batch out hoping FS6 would be ok with it. CR's is not a bad company.... I've been there a few times and you'd think they were Mennonites. Pasty white people who talk in a low voice... country folk. Tho sending out an inferior product seems kind of idiotic.

Fursuitsupplies.com tried to do the right thing and be a retail outlet of varying furs. Even they are having issues keeping furs in stock. Hopefully this isn't a trend that will decrease availability further in the future.

I have frequent issues with creasing due to them smashing it into such a small box, but "end of roll" type irrecoverable damage is not something I have had from them.

I just got in 5 yards each of black and white teddy from them and them and it was some of the best I've received. So no issues here.

You got white teddy from them? not cubby but Teddy? I guess Id better call my MM sales rep because I was told that the white teddy was still out of production. GRRRRR

Yep, teddy! It was pretty hard though and involved a lot of emailing. CR said it was out of stock at the mill then they spontaneously got a small order of it in but by the time they responded to an email inquiry that I sent, it was sold out about 5 hours later. This was mid August, they said they'd get a bit more in 2 weeks and I should just backorder it from them. So I ordered both black and white, the black they had in stock and I needed ASAP for a project. I told them to ship the black right away but 5 days later they emailed to say they had both and were shipping them together. Low and behold at the beginning of last week it showed up and it's some of the best teddy I've used!

You think your MM sales rep is bad, mine told me that there was only one distributor in Canada and I should contact them. I already have a wholesale account with them, I emailed 3 of their emails over the course of about 2 weeks with no reply, emailed the sales rep back and nothing. Argh.

This is quite sad. I used to order from them when I first started making things with fur and was very pleased with the quality and service then, but I've heard nothing but bad things about them for a number of years now.

I found it depends on which fur you order. The "cubby bear" furs are very good, in my experience (I ordered a total of about five yards for my own fursuit in two different orders), but this generic white fur with a one-inch pile was disappointing. Sparse, creased, and ;not as soft as the cubby bear fur. Looks like I'll have to put in a new belly patch.
