NEED ADVICE: BUYING A NEW DESKTOP
Okay so story time!!
Last weekend my boyfriend and I went away for some dirtbiking and fishing and stuff! It was a nice trip and a much needed getaway, however I returned to a lot of headache and stress @N@ I shut my desktop computer off before I left, and didn't get the chance to turn it on until two days after my return due to work and dirtbike maintainence and all kinds of things. Anyway, I finally sat down to work on some projects because my desktop is a hell of a lot better than my laptop - color wise, performance wise, EVERYTHING.
Welp.
It wouldn't turn on.
The tower did - the power light and the fans came on, but nothing else - monitor, keyboard, mouse...nothing.
Then I tried to turn it off - it wouldn't turn off via the power button. I had to actually unplug the computer to turn it off. I did some research online to troubleshoot the problem. I tried everything I could possibly find and after a week, I still can't get it to turn on. The problem could be anything from RAM, to PSU, to the motherboard.
Its not the RAM. I checked that. So its either PSU or Motherboard. So I sat down with my boyfriend and discussed options. Replacing the PSU wouldn't be too bad, but if thats not the problem then its better to just replace the entire computer. HOWEVER replacing the PSU was gonna be a bit of a pain because its rather different than the other power supplies I've seen. Not nearly as big as the ones I've seen in many other computers, including my boyfriend's.
I was planning on upgrading some components anyway to further optimize my computer - especially the graphic's card. TURNS OUT I CAN'T DO THAT ANYWAY. :L So my boyfriend just suggested to get a new computer - specifically a new tower. Problem is that I get so, sO LOST LOOKING FOR COMPUTERS??? OMG??? THERE ARE SO MANY OPTIONS.
I know a gaming computer would be basically perfect. I've found a couple via amazon for around $400-$500. (they're on sale too WHEEE) and I'd love to get one that is ...actually windows 7 not windows 8 @_@ so I think!! I'm gonna aim to get this one:
http://www.amazon.com/CyberpowerPC-.....MVA_B0089KDCIU
I'd just like some input! From what I see of the specs it looks like a really great computer so ITS REALLY TEMPTING not to mention it looks rad as hell hehe ;v; I'm sure there are some techy people out there!! My boyfriend looked at it and said it looks great, I just wanna see if anyone else has some input as well UvU
All of that being said, commissions are still open as I work on my queue haha. The only thing I may have a delay on is those traditional sketches. That will be a SLIGHT delay though so don't fret! I will actually have those completed tomorrow while I'm at work, I just need to install my scanner on my laptop so I can deliver them to those who are waiting!!

FA+

I built myself a new tower a few months back and I would love to help, but I live in germany so prices and sometimes the parts are different for some things since it is a different market.
I wish you best luck and hope that you can get a new, awesome and not too costy gaming PC soon! Only thing I could add is to stay away from windows 8!
:3
I'm totally new to the concept of building my own computer haha, but it seems like a better option really! I'd love to hear your opinions on what I should look for though! ;v; the more the merrier.
YEAH I AM AVOIDING WINDOWS 8 LIKE THE PLAGUE I had it on my desktop aND I have it on my laptop as well and its ...alright. but not really...necessary for my wants/needs haha.
Just a quick question though. What is the price range you are looking for?
I ll take a look at things rignt after sleeping!
kinda low in the price range but thats all i have to spare at the moment, ;3;
though if youre wanting to upgrade anyway theres no time like the present i guess xD
was it turning on and off by itself? like attempting to start up, staying on a few seconds, then going off, and back on, etc? or just 'booting up' and sitting like that?
i see other people have already offered enough input on the computer you'd linked and i didnt really have much on that aside from the graphics card seeming a little low end (but thats where price stacks up fast so its understandable). that one has the same line of card as mine though it was quite a few models towards the lower end.
It would just 'boot up' and sit there. it wouldnt even try beyond that haha.
Ah thank you for your input on the computer ;v; I'm gonna keep looking just to get a few more options before settling~
i wish i could help with a new computer more but i mostly got my roommate to do it for me ahaha. i hope you can find something that looks good!
Sadly today if you are building cheap computer AMD is all the way to go. Because performance/price is better in FX CPU's at cheap price.
And i see you did not calculate that your CPU might be acting too. Lots of computers what came to fix because similar issue their CPU were burned out. Computer in that case shutsdown in 1-2 minutes and all fans are at max RPM in whole time.
For 400-500USD i would say: Go for AMD cpu's. Good intel CPU what does compare in performance starts basicly from 200USD (Well there is some good intels lower that price but FX-6350 costs only $124.99)
I wouldnt suggest straight to go new computer if your parts are good or fine. It all depends how old and what parts do you have in your computer currently.
Unplug the desktop, remove the tiny battery, hold the power button for a while.
If that doesn't work, look in your manual, or look up your motherboard online for the "CMOS Jumper".
My opinion on the computer:
No dedicated video card, it only has two ram slots, (8 GB Max), and the board is a micro ATX on top of it all.
There's no USB 3.0 support either.
Check out the first item. $299, a faster GPU, includes an SSD, has a similar motherboard with two ram slots, includes 4GB of 1600 Mhz ram from a trusted brand.
The only thing not included is the Operating System. Frankly though if you wanted to you could just use your old hard drive and use the SSD as secondary storage.
1st
Remove all USB devices. and then turn it on.
All mice, keyboards, USB drives, external HDDs, everything and anything USB related.
2nd
Try removing the battery and leaving it out when you turn it on about two or three times.
Hope they work!
Solution 1 is to ignore the problem and plan on replacing the motherboard some time in the near future.
At your own risk:
Solution 2 is to Flash the BIOS and buy a completely new matching battery to put in (battery is optional). Maybe rewriting the BIOS will fix the problem. (might be risky)
if you need help specing out somthing from new egg let me know will help as i build for others .. i know your not needing it built but happy to help .. send a note and can show you options to save money and help you out so you can narrow down the search.. also mordark had a good idea on the shell shocker..but the board is an older ship set. works fine but is much more limited..
