School Update! And my Apologies for the Inactivity
11 years ago
I really should apologize for being so quiet on this site for most of the last 12 months. I hope to get caught up and leave a lot of comments for everyone, just as I used to do regularly.
Things are going very well for me. I've restarted my Master's degree after a 7-year hiatus and I am also studying a lot of Graphic Design to help me with my second career. So far, so good! It's a bit of a cultural adjustment taking courses at a community college after spending all of my prior undergrad and grad work exclusively at a large, private university, but thus far things seem quite positive and I have no doubts at all about the direction I'm headed.
Now I just need to secure a job and I'll be all set. Hopefully I will have some good news on that front before too long.
Thanks for looking out for me, everyone. I expect to be at Furpocalypse (formerly Furfright) at the end of October, so I look forward to seeing everyone there.
And to reiterate, I will start posting my own artwork here before the end of the year, though I will warn everyone not to expect anything great to flow from my pencil for a very long while. :P
Onward and upward.

Thank you for always having kind words to offer. It's always a big help.
Also very much looking forward to hopefully seeing you again in a few weeks!
I like that your minor is also complimentary, but different than your major. The broader the knowledge, the more the skills tat you acquire will enhance all aspects of your career [and life]!
You are clever and very intelligent! I am positive you will do WONDERS!
I won't lie – some days, there's a little bit of gloom, but I try to stay busy and focused to help chase that away. As you're aware, I've been though quite a lot, and I was already having major career problems even before all of the nonsense started. Righting the ship has been a long process, but I'm quite happy with all of the progress.
My Master's degree is in a field officially called Human-Computer Interaction, which essentially deals with software interface design, device ergonomics, and some other related ideas. I felt that classical Graphic Design dovetailed with it pretty well, since just about every interface deals with issues of composition and typography (and many such interfaces deal with those issues rather poorly :P ). This is not a typical course of study, so we'll see how successful I am at marrying the two.
I'm still working on solving the paycheck problem, as my liquid assets aren't going to last forever. A couple of small opportunities may be about to spring up, so I'll keep you posted.
And thank you again for all your support. I do lament that you're so far away, but it makes the occasions when I can spend some time with you all the more precious. Hugs from New York. :)
