When Vacationing Turns into a Long Break
So I had a marvelous vacation in Japan! I picked up a couple of fox masks, climbed Mt. Fuji, became inspired in Matsue (it is now the setting for the beginning of my novel-in-progress), watched swordsmiths at work in Osafune, wept in Hiroshima, strolled through a garden in Okayama, traveled to other worlds at the Studio Ghibli museum, saw the famous three wise monkeys in Nikko (see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil), and was swallowed up in the largest metropolitan area on earth. There are a lot of stories to be told from that trip, but this journal is not really the place for them. I'll probably start trying to tell them in my ramblings over at my den as soon as I've knocked one or two things off my current project board.
Oh! That is exciting news. Well, at least for me! \^o^/ I have a cork board and a whiteboard in my work area now and both have proved rather useful. The whiteboard is a place where I can do worldbuilding, plot timelines, and other notes that I want on hand without having to flip through my physical notebooks or electronic documents. When I'm done with the particular notes, I take a picture, erase, and put up new ones. And the information usually ends up in my other documents as well. The cork board is a place where I can put things that I want to keep track of, such as prayer requests, books to read, upcoming events, a calendar that likes to spring off the cork board at inconvenient times, and my current projects. Each project has its own 3x5 index card and is colour-coded to indicate what type of project it is, such as a conlang or a novel. I also have the title (working or finalized), a status (first draft, sent to publisher, etc.), and a brief synopsis on the project card. This new system has helped get me back on track with my projects, as it has reminded me of what needs to be done with each one. Not that you'll see much of my work here--publishers tend not to like it when you previously uploaded a story to an art site. But I'll try to provide what I can.
FA and dA were probably the two sites that suffered the most from my long absence from the internet. I stuck with a couple of forums for a bit longer, but then had a several month break. And, as I've always been sporadic there, nothing really changed with FB. But I have been slowly learning how to better manage my time. So we'll sally once more into the breach and see how long I last this time!
