The Aquarium
Ever since the dawn of sea exploration, we have been fascinated with our ocean-dwelling friends. Aquariums cropped up as a way to enjoy the beauty and majesty of the sea without the threat of drowning or being eaten. From entire walkways made of glass to rooms bedecked with coral, aquariums have never stopped working to bring us as close as physically possible to the experience of living in the ocean. Practically stopping just shy of turning us into fish ourselves, because that’s impossible… isn’t it? Many years ago, a computer scientist vowed to bridge this gap.
Hiding in seclusion for many years, he finally unveiled his greatest creation; an aquarium. Those patrons on the first day were skeptical, but went inside anyway because it was free. What they saw inside stunned them all; no fish. No fish, no water, no anything, just a bunch of very tiny rooms about the size of voting booths. And like a voting booth, each one had a lever inside. “Pull for an experience like no other,” reads the sign on the wall. Naturally, you pull it; how can you not after a build-up like that? Instantly, everything around you goes black. You blink rapidly to try and adjust to the gloom, slowly realizing that light is returning to the… booth? Where did all of this water come from? In every direction you look is the vast, endless void of the sea. With a small jolt, you realize that you are no longer standing on anything, but floating freely in the water. You look down to discover that your hands are gone. A once-over confirms it; you are a native ocean-dweller.
