Dear Digital Artists...(vent journal)

When you put up your art, no matter the subject matter, no matter the quality, no matter what simulated brushes, etc. you use, please avoid using terms such as those used to describe traditionally drawn art. There is no paint in a pixel on a screen, nor is there ink in a digital sketch. How can one say a simulated virtual image of something, not even directly derived from the media it is being said to be derived from, is an actual physical representation of said media having the exact properties of the media despite not being real but a virtual copy completely lacking physical properties. It's like looking at a post card of the Grand Canyon you got from a friend who went there and saying you actually got to see the Grand Canyon.

One example I've seen a lot is digital artists calling some of their digital drawings "paintings." They call it a painting because they used a digitally reproduced paint and paint brush. However, they never actually used paint or brushes to create the drawing, they used a tablet and drawing software. Therefore having never actually used paint in the art, the art cannot be called a painting, at most one could call it a "virtual painting" with "virtual paint."

OP
You could say that, I got a bit of a problem with it. But in the end people will do what they will do and I can't stop them. It is but a petty thing to ruffle feathers over, but it is at the same time a common mistake I felt I should address.
