Saw this while browsing through random artist profiles

An artist had in very obnoxious, bold, red letters on their page,

"Do not draw any of my characters, and do not draw them in sexual situations. They are my characters only and only I am permitted to draw them"

A common statement found on artist pages here on FA, I will now dissect said statement to point out it's flaws.

-First, it is literally impossible to stop anyone from drawing your character. No matter what you try and do to prevent it via the internet, there will always be someone else that will draw it without you knowing. You may be attempting to prevent character theft, but in the end it is incredibly easy for an artist to claim any character they decide to draw, original or not, as their own.

-Second, putting aside trying to prevent someone drawing your character, you now try to prevent them drawing your characters sexually? The idea of attempting this is absurd. Imagine if the owners of pokemon were to go and try and prevent even remotely sexual art of any and all pokemon on the internet. Not gonna happen.

-Third, after attempting to tell people not to do either of these things, you post a "nsfw ref sheet" of your so privatized character. It details every aspect of your character, their exact colors, their completely nude form, with multiple angles. It blue prints almost exactly how to draw your character, and in a sexual situation. If you don't want people drawing your character, then don't show them how to do it!

Once you put your drawing of your character out there, it is no longer yours only to draw. People will draw it sexually, make money off of it, and might just claim it as their own. In the end the only thing you could possibly do to stop it is fritter away your time, your money, and your life on lawsuits, tracking down every person who did any of those things and suing them for making money by drawing your character sexually without your permission.

So please, for the sake humankind's still plausible continued co-existence, let people draw your character. You might just enjoy imitation's flattery
