1st off! thank you to all my new watchers over the last few weeks for the Favs of Shep and the 2 other girls! :D
2nd off, i am deeply saddened and regret to inform that Jim Hardiman, the creator of
passed away recently. Many of you would know him for bringing to life 3 eccentric girls to life! His style was truly one of a kind in this community, he's artwork with a pen was just magical. He was true a diamond in the rough. My heart sank with dread after i a journal announcing the bad news and he will be truly missed threw out the fandom.. by friends... family....
The characters of skunkworks and comics i can say with pride and confidence was the stepping stones for me into the fandom world.
thank you Jim for all that you have giving us.
3rd of all. now i rage! and rant... please.. take a look at my profile info. and take note of the "incoming commissions"
that little list ... is sooOOOOooon to become a FOKING! hit LIST in my eyes! ... REAL_FUCK_LY! time and time again Ive seen artist post journals of commissioners that nag or bitch at them for this and that.
Look at that and tell me that i do NOT have the right to ask and Question WTF is happening?!?!?!?! let me know if you see it in MICRO fine print on my profile page that says "SUCKER!!!" Months ago i have noted some of the artist in question after they went dark, MIA or ghost on me. some of the feed back received was not what i wanted to hear. things like .. life changing decisions to down right just forgetting bout me or "not liking my idea.".
i will only ask you once about something... i will not chase the rabbit for trivial things.
December month I will be demanding refunds. But my question to you is "what legal action do i take to get my money back? cause $503 in missing commissions is not a matter to take lightly. to back up my clams i have email invoices from paypal, emails, journal and comments/posts dating back.
Oh and it was my birth day btw *mumbles*

The only legal action I know of would be small claims court (hard if you are in different states) or set a timer and withdraw the money if they get near the PayPal refund deadline.
Either way, I'm not a fan of "full payment up front", and I say that as a commission artist, not a client. Just way too much potential for drama and headaches there, on either side of the deal.
I think 50% up front, the rest when the artwork is completed is a reasonable way of handling things. At least that way it's a shared risk, for the client and the artist. And don't ask for huge ( expensive ) commissions from an artist, until you know they're reliable and trustworthy. I'd also advise to stay away from artists with a huge backlog of unfinished commissions, unless you absolutely need to have a piece done in their style. Plenty of lesser known artists produce great work, too.
I still think 50% up front ( or after the first sketch ) and the rest when the art is completed is a good deal for both sides. You could suggest that, next time you commission an artist, and if they're reasonable you'll probably come to an agreement. And if they absolutely insist on full payment up front, well screw 'em and look somewhere else. Like I said, there's tons of artists around here.
