it was local so it was't much to get a print of a digital work you had commissioned. I'm pretty bummed about this

Kinda surprised you were even able to in the first place. Not only are there legal issues employees are very likely violating sexual harassment laws by allowing you to bring porn into the printing place. From now on if someone commissions you for that sort of thing give them a file & let them sort it out if you can't afford a printer.


You can't expect to put employees jobs at risk or violate peoples personal boundaries by exposing them to material that is entirely within their right to not want to look at.

Adult cartoon material is considered something else (Not sure of the name) but its not considered "pornography."

I don't know why it would be considered harassment. They don't even look at them. I press print and they get spit into the tray. Then they go into an envelope and he give it to me.

That's ok. TBH most people don't want prints of porn hanging on their walls. There are a few that do like prints for a book, in that case however. I don't like to ship porn, there are too many complications with laws in different countries. I'd rather avoid the complications, let alone sending it to a kid...
I find that mailing soft core adult work, in many cases erotica is ok. it is accepted almost everywhere as an "artistic nude" or simply a form of artwork.
Even if it were in the hands of a under aged person it would be forgiving. Though I do my best to make sure nobody I sell or do commission for is under 18 I a have no doubt that it happens, not only to me, but to everyone. That is the internet.

"Adult" work comes in many forms, not only porn, and I find it sad that anyone part of the human body is considered disgusting or offensive. I agree I do not want to look at pictures of some dudes raging cock while I eat, but I would not care if it were simply a persons body, nude or not.
A breast or a butt, I find hard to call offensive in anyway, but sadly it is not my choice. I hope to find a local print shop but there are a few options on-line.

One shop had told me that if I wanted a print I would need to send a thumb every time for a 2-3 day approval through a manager. That really isn't ideal considering that this is mostly all custom work.

The fact that the printing of such art (porn) is also allowed was simply a point I was making in the last comment. It might be porn yes, but its still a cartoon and is not considered "pornography." It's hard for me to define other then calling it a fantasy. The printing of this is at the discretion of the shop (at least to my knowledge). Erotica has never been a problem in the past, nor should it be imo.

By the definitions of many people in this world, those images do constitute porn. More to the point, all it takes is for one employee to find it offensive, and complain about it for the company to be put in an extremely precarious and legally-actionable position.

It probably wasn't an issue before because the other employees didn't care. But this new employee does find it offensive, and that's all it takes. It doesn't matter how much business you do with them, because that employee could potentially sue the company for millions.

Which is the most sad part about it. Minority rules.

Yeah it sucks that you couldn't just come to an arrangement like taking your pictures in when one of the employees who isn't bothered by them is there. But, rules like that exist for a reason. There was a time when it wasn't uncommon for men to have girly calendars and the like at their workplace, which created a very uncomfortable work environment for many women.

Its really quite stupid that would stop printing ALL of my work. If you want to refuse 1 sure but all?
I feel like its based off an employee who just "doesn't like me" because I drew a nude boob. Or perhaps they are racist and are using that an excuse to not allow me to print work.
To ban a customer because of "what they draw" is not right, that itself is offensive, IMO.

the calender thing imo, is also stupid, and I find it offensive that I cannot put on up, and I am girl. It's like saying, you lie woment, you cant have that their, but I can put up a man calendar.
Everything can be offensive to the right person. there are boundaries, but people need to stop that 1 person from pushing them around.

There's no objective standard for what is porn, what is erotica, etc. Legally, the workplace standard is if an employee finds it offensive. I had one job where I had to remove a photo of my girlfriend and I from my work station because another employee complained about it. In the photo I was wearing shorts and a T-shirt, and she was wearing a one-piece swimsuit at the beach. It was pretty tame compared to the swimwear that many women wear, but someone still thought it was offensive.

Thats the problem. EVERYTHING can be offensive. Its to the point where it is ridiculous and it needs to stop somewhere.

I didn't get fired for it. My shop-foreman just came-up to me one day and told me that someone had complained about that photo hanging above my toolbox, and asked me to please remove it (though the implication was that I must remove it.) I'm a car mechanic; it's still very much a male-dominated industry, and we didn't have any female mechanics there at the time, though there were women who worked in the front-side of the dealership, I suppose one of them must have happened to see it, and been offended.

I also work in a male dominated trade. Either way he simply asked you to remove it, while the printing place has said no and also added and don't come back ever, which is what I am saying is really not acceptable. By any standards.
