well i been thinking... the reason i dont submit more art is because i like to improve...
all my recent entries (in gallery) have a BG, which is an improvement...
the thing is, i suck at BGs, and everything i been producing does not have one, therefore i cant post it because its UNimproved with no BG...
so here is the thing... i'm wondering if there is anybody out there who is better at BG's than they are characters, or would rather do a BG than a character, and who likes my style enuff to allow me to put characters on thier BG, for a bit of collabing every now and then?
the way it would work would be i have an idea, tell them what it is, and suggest a BG, or, they have a BG, want characters in it, and tell me what they want the charra's doing, or something like dat....
i even have this really nice gift i was making for someone but am just stuck, because i cant finnish the BG...
so like, if anyone is interested in partnering up for role-specific collabing (BG/charra's), i'm all for it ^^;
i'm hoping to improve by:
1) being able to concentrate more on the charries knowing dat the BG is taken care of
and
2) learning from the person who makes the background by studying the way they do it
i'm not looking for supertastically detailed BG's, just simple interesting ones, cell shaded with cartoony colors and the like, kinda like MEK or Styx (when she uses sai painter) - simple but colorful and interesting...
dats the kinda BG dat would match best, but of course, anyone willing to grace my crap with their BG's would be gladly welcomed ^^;
so, anyone up to be my collabing partner?
keep in mind i'm not just gonna start throwing out a bunch of doodles and expect my collab partner to fill in the blanks and make it interesting - i'll be trying equally hard to make good drawings...

oh, as for being cousin and stuff, all i do is take care of the immediate family (mom, dad, siblings), digisushi handles the extended family ^^;

That's folly! If you're still at the early stages of learning, your best accomplishments are gonna be flukes. They'll be lucky accidents, but nothing consistent yet. Nice to have, but useless as a yardstick, only frustrating.
My advice is to lower your standards. Don't measure against your current best, but against your current average. The most important part of any skill is consistency.
And don't shy away from backgrounds if you want to improve. Separating characters and backgrounds is a very big mistake and I'm sure you know it. You'll never learn to place something in an environment that way and your drawings will always be flat.
Having said that, if in one drawing you're focusing on improving figure drawing then there's no added value in including a background at all.
but my lucky accidents have no lucky accidental backgrounds ^^;
the best i ever did was the Cadillac pic, i dont think i can top it anytime soon without being able to study how others do to improve my own...
The progression is something like this: Nothing -> Desire -> Action -> Quantity -> Consistency -> Quality. The steps are cumulative.
So considering backgrounds, you're now basically at Desire, right? Time to take Action.
What Layers-using graphics editing prog do you use? Photoshop? GIMP?
and um, Flash CS3
apparently i paid $1000 for it cuz i dont use any of the other progs in the production suite XD
I'm not really that good at bg's either, but I'll let you know if have an inspiration to draw one that you can use. ^^
