DDOS Attack - The Perfect Crime [satire]
Okay, I wanted to push off my previous journal, so figured this might be a fun way to do so.
Please note that what I am putting below here is merely meant as satire, in response to some of the conspiracy theories I've heard in regard to the DDOS attack that FA is just recovering from.
I do not in any way think or believe that this is what happened, but merely want to point out how easy it is to come up with some theory that is just as feasible as any other, no matter how unlikely.
How to pull off the perfect DDOS attack crime.
You discover that the more popular website you are in direct competition with, is about to do a gofundme drive, in order to improve their services and advance them to be more like what you offer. Being the new kid on the block, you know that the only advantage you have right now, is that you offer services that they do not. So, you know you must stop them. But what can you do?
For starters, you know that anyone on top is always seen as the bad guy, so you will use that. Your own popularity is primarily because past issues experienced by your competition have led people to abandon them and come to you. So, now you just have to devise a plan to capitalize on that.
Site downtime is the biggest threat to any web site, so that's where you'll focus your plan of attack. So, you secretly orchestrate a massive DDOS attack against them, to coincide with the launch of their gofundme drive. This helps in two ways, as it not only shuts down that site and thus drive desperate users to your site, but it also keeps people from learning about the gofundme drive, for several more days.
Of course, you know that attacking just that one competitor would raise suspicions, so you instead broaden the attack to include the other furry art sites as well, though you make sure to minimize any harm to them. It's only the big boy that you're really after, but if you make it look like an attack on furries themselves and not just a single website, people's sympathies will go to all of the art sites, and not just the one you are after.
The attack goes off as planned, and true to your hopes and desires, those desperate for their furry porn, do indeed flock to your site, which was miraculously, barely affected by the attack at all. Everything is working out perfectly, but that's not enough. You know that the big site will recover and be back online within a few days, so you need to do more. But what?
Of course... You already know that there is a lot of distrust and animosity toward the admins of that site, so turn things around and use that against them. Anonymously release the news you had learned about the gofundme drive. Claim that there was no way the admins could have known they would need money to beef up security, unless they orchestrated an attack on themselves, in order to show where that security was lacking. Make sure to cover up any facts that the gofundme's initial intentions were to improve hardware and work on performance and functionality enhancements. Just spread the rumors that it was all an inside job, rekindling any feelings of distrust people already have.
But the conspiracy theory doesn't spread quickly or widely enough, and the users of that big site show their support and start to donate thousands of dollars. Now desperate to stop this from working, you create an anonymous lulz.net account and use that to contact gofundme, getting them to take down the gofundme drive as inappropriate material.
Unfortunately, that big competitor is able to recover the money already donated, but at the end of the day, things still worked out for you. Your site has gained more users and the hatred and mistrust of your competitor has grown. They did not raise all that they needed and wanted, so their ultimate plans will be further delayed. You are safe for now and nobody is the wiser that it was you, who orchestrated it all.
You have pulled off the perfect DDOS attack crime.

FA+

Nicely written.
Examine the eyes of any fursuit, and you will discover their secret symbols.
Honestly I would believe that before I'd believe the admins floundered FA on their own...they can screw up their own policies and enforcement seven ways to sunday but with this kinda shit they're usually pretty solid.
But snrk, this is great! I wish I could fav journals. XD You do good work!
Heh. Thanks. Now, on to the theory that FA Ads are using subliminal messages...
