in case you change your mind... what sort of beer/liquor do you enjoy most?
and since you are a fan of obscure music... ya heard of this group before?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErxDztIshsA
i like belgian beer a lot, especially sours. unibroue's stuff is great too
have you seen Gone Girl yet btw? That is a great movie even though I'm not the biggest Ben Affleck fan he does a superb job
i haven't seen gone girl but i heard a lot about it some ppl seem to rly hate it but others love it, i guess i'll have to see it! i'm most excited about seeing inherent vice and i want to see the rest of terrence malick's stuff i haven't seen yet
Inherent Vice has an amazing trailer and I've seen P.T. Anderson's other films and loved 'em all (Magnolia is actually one of my all-time favorite movies) so hopefully IV will be great too :3
The only Terrence Malick movie I've seen is 'The New World' but I want to see his other stuff too
Also have you seen/heard of Upstream Color? That film is visually arresting and mentally complex but didn't get a whole lot of press sadly. It's from the director of a mindtrip film called Primer.
the first malick movie i saw was days of heaven and it's just so different and good and pretty. i rly like period movies too so that helped. it's very ambient and more like a mood piece. thin red line is p much the only war movie i like beside grave of the fireflies. it is super emotionally intense but not in a dumb basic war movie way, it's way beyond that shit. tree of life is also really emotional and beautiful, it's like a dream of memories about a childhood, it's so so good.
speaking of period stuff, have you seen barry lyndon? my fave kubrick and period piece
Period movies are tough to pull off, and while I might end up loving Barry Lyndon, for every one of those you have something like A Knight's Tale or Inside Llewyn Davis (the latter was especially a slight disappointment for me, a general lover of the Coen Brothers works). The best kind of period movie is a film that sums up the time it was made so it becomes a period film by proxy, such as how John Hughes films help to encapsulate the 80's.
You have a good taste in movies so I'm eager to suggest something you and/or your bf haven't heard of before! So I'll just make a short list and ya can tell me if you have seen these films or directors
Harmony Korine (director)
Harold & Maude (film)
Don't Look Now (film)
Bong Joon-Ho (director; anything besides Snowpiercer which was a letdown)
Sexy Beast (film)
Morvern Callar (film)
Fish Tank (film)
Irreversible (film)
Me And You And Everyone We Know (film)
Okay that's a decent length of a list :)
i've seen gummo and kids, they were good (esp gummo). korine has a similar sort of meanness to von trier so it's not something i seek out too feverishly. harld and maude and you and me were both really good. i haven't seen any of the other stuff tho!
lately i'm mostly watching documentaries. i've been watching ken burns' stuff. i watched the dust bowl and now now i'm watching the west, and i'm watching prohibition at the same time. i'll probably watch the civil war after that.
Are you interested in seeing the new documentary about Edward Snowden called 'CitizenFour?' It looks like it could be good. As for me I enjoy an interesting non-fiction story over a cliched fictitious one any day as most of the popular fiction is lackluster. I just saw Religulous the other day and think it's a funny documentary, and Michael Moore has created some humorous pieces as well. As for serious documentaries, I picked one up from work the other day called My Architect which is supposed to be amazing but I haven't had time to sit down and see it yet.
Are the documentaries you're talking about ones that are shown on The History Channel?
Also... have you seen this before?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5q3P2xziA00
