Every single one of my swatches, settings and custom brushes I had over the years are lost.

I had been attempting to update SAI and even with backing up all my files the new version lost them, the old version lost them too and now whenever I try to recreate or add them to either program neither one saves them. The program closes and when it is reopened all that I added is gone.

I don't know what to do and I've been in a terribly depressive and suicidal state because I'm a fucking moron and if I don't have my brushes I can't finish or work on any commissions. I have no idea what to do, even the people around me are ignoring all the self harm tendencies and every hour or so I force myself not to cause any harm to myself.

If anyone knows what I can do to at least have a stable version of SAI, old or new, that will retain all my swatches and brushes, please please please let me know, this is messing me up so badly and I can't even believe this happened. Please someone, anyone help me out.

*hugs tight* unfortunately this isn't really my forte, Is there any way you could do a system restore on your computer to before you tried to update SAI?

If you're using an HDD and not SSD you can use file recovery to restore deleted files.

just try using the default brushes to the best of your ability for now.

Sorry to hear you are going through so much trouble. I searched through Google for troubleshooting on your problem and the only things I found are: 1.) Apparently if you use Ctrl+E+Tab, your tools and brushes disappear and will remain hidden until you repeat the exact same button combination (I HIGHLY doubt this is your issue). 2.) I'll be honest, I do not own or operate SAI and a lot of this is going a bit over my head, but I hope any little amount helps. :(

Please don't be so hard on yourself. We've all had digital hiccups and like any other, I am sure there is a way to get your saved files back.

I use Sai a ton, but I never figured out or dabbled with custom brushes at all. I tried downloading a pack of them once, but never quite got the hang of them, so I'm useless for help. I wish I could help though, grwah!

I have a stable version of Sai I'd be very happy to give you, love. Also I hate to hear your feeling so down, and I hope you dont do anything silly. If you ever need someone to vent to or a shoulder to lean on, I'm always here. Sure we may not know each other, but sometimes it's better to speak to a stranger than it is to speak to someone you know. I dont judge anyone for anything, I simply try to help. So all I can say is if you ever get down and suicidal again, shoot me a message or add me to Skype and chat. I'm here ^_^

The painful irony there's commission info beneath all of that. ._. But I can relate to things being fucked up seeing as I'm one insult away from ripping someone's throat out with my teeth (and I mean LITERALLY, not some furry related thing, I mean I'd kill another human given my current life state). I'm not gonna be able to help out with your problem, but I'd suggest you find some way to vent that doesn't involve murdering someone or hurting yourself. Try stabbing something you're gonna throw away a few hundred times with a knife or blitz something soft but not fragile with a few thousand punches. I mean, honestly, it'll only help you marginally and not fix your problem but a tiny bit of steam is at least less than breaking point.

Just do something to let it out cos if you don't redirect your mental state it's gonna blow up on you. Trust me, breaking down and trying to ram a knife into your heart or killing someone who didn't deserve it isn't going to help anyone. Just take a breath and go break something. It'll make your primal side feel good. ^^
