Choices(free write)

When I was young I was told to follow my heart. The heart will lead you to your dreams is what those around me would say, but I would also hear them say follow your gut when your heart stays quiet. What do you do when both are pulling you in separate directions and both are screaming at you simintaniously? When you follow your heart when your gut says no it tosses and turns, and clenches inside you. When you follow you gut against your hearts desires it aches and pulls against every emotion.
Is there no balance, no piece to be found in between the two? Can we not find some sort of uneasy common ground to walk on as we somehow satisfy the conducting storms inside us? Is such a thing possible?
Personally I have found no common ground between the two, but do I think impossible to find? Perhaps not. It's hard to find a compromise when both storms have equal power, and potential devastation. More times than not when I try to walk a pAth between the storms I end up crawling, and pain pouring forth from both my heart and gut. Such memory of pain forces me to choose. No matter which way I turn there will be pain, and the only hope I have when the storms inside me conflict is to hope I choose the one with the greatest reward for the pain I inflict. The choice is never easy and it's a choice we all have to make and live with.
