This Week in the Dogbomb Garage
Here's how I'm keeping my greasy paws out of trouble this week:
*Oil change for the Ranger: 5 quarts of Valvoline 5W-30 and a Phram philter are ready for action.
I replaced that damn dash light and everything else is functioning as it should.
Next month I'll flush the coolant and replace the thermostat.
158,000 miles? She's just broken in...
*XL stator: Yup, I bit the proverbial bullet and had the factory stator rewound by Rick's Electric in New Hampshire.
I'm hoping this cures my erratic spark and that the problem is not something I screwed up when I installed
the Poweroll big bore kit. I miss riding that stupid little bike and pissing off the neighbors with 1:00 AM jaunts
across their lawns. Straight pipe? I thought that was factory!
*Husqvarna swingarm: That extended arm is now chromed and ready to install, and I even have new bronze bushings and
the correct o-rings to keep out the muck. Yes, I'm going to need a longer chain, and to have the
brake rod re-sized, but so what? It's Swedish, it's 7 feet tall, the kick starter is on the wrong side and
you don't want to piss off an air cooled 500cc two stroke.
*Donzi outboard seal: My gear oil looks like a vanilla milkshake, so I bought the factory seal kit from some guy named Clem in
Gobblers Knob, Arkansas. Ebay..I'm sure it'll be fine.
*Barbara: Lots of smoochies.
*F350 Electrics: Gunna buy a new battery this morning on my way to work. Yes, the truck is in Arizona, but the battery is here
so that's technically working on the truck, is it not? Detail Nazis.
So that's it! An easy week. What's up in your garage or workshop or dungeon?
TLDR: I've got tons of old crap in my garage.

FA+

I can't get that link to work. Can you resend it
so I can see the glory that is Leviathan?
Very cool ride!
The comfiest car in the family~
Control arms are fun. What happened to the old ones?
Is that an 8" rearend in the Fairlane?
Sorry, I'm just full of questions!
Wow, that sounded wrong...
Here? Nursing my cressida thru another workweek while ongoing major welding is happening on a chevette! Flashing up on every sunny day, dreaming of a garage sometine.
What the heck are you welding on the Chevette?
Sounds like it could be a fun project!
Well since this is one of the most corrosove environments on earth, half the chevette needs new metal. rear Control arm mount right, both spring perches, front crossmember, right front frame under crossmember, 2 sq foot of trunk and about 5 sq foot of the cabin floor. Body looks good overall, but the underpinnings need lots of love. Painting it with truck bed liner as I go so can be sure it will last another 27 years :3
Its getting a complete new suspension etc front and back once its all strenghtened up. :3
Good luck with that Chevette!
A cool car worth saving for sure.
My first boss had one with a transplanted Mercedes turbo diesel.
That little bugger hauled ass and got 35 mpg!
*gets you a cold beer and joins you*
I also suffer from big-bouncy-and-overpowered-car withdrawal (damn import taxes, making the Challenger cost twice as much over here in Europe...)
Woof!
Your XL sounds very cool! I also have an XR650L and it's a great bike.
What are these winter tires that you speak of?
Buy a new Ferrari and take me for a spin!
Boxes of parts and just enough room for a couple of cars.
Gobbler's Knob? You just can't make stuff like that up!
I won't be moving to Gobbler's Knob anytime soon, but I would like a t-shirt...
Sounds like you've got some fun stuff going on there. Maybe I'll stop by and
flog that IT in the spring.
How exciting. Come home soon and share your unboxing adventures!
to work on his own stuff. I guess that's just part of the business.
Hang in there and keep fighting that good automotive fight!
So. How was the marathon, Long Beach, wasn't it? Understand you guys did all right. ~Checks your FA Journals~. Hmm. Don't see anything yet... Sure that's an oversight. *Coughs*
Still waiting on MiKe to send me his pictures.
I'll give ol MiKe one more day and then I'll use my
own images to slander you on a public forum.
I shall invest in nitrogen canisters to make those orbs super bouncy,
and each satisfied customer will have extra chasing fun AND help
the environment. It's a win-win!
Other than that sounds like you are having fun.
The shaft looks good, but the rubber seal and plastic carrier
were shot. An easy fix, thank dog!
I are be jellus of #justshopworktodonothingelse
What motor do you have in the 350? If you have a Danger I don't know why you would even need an f350
You have cool stuff what with diesel trucks and Subarus and all...
I have the F350 because I just can't stand to sell her.
She's retired in Arizona now, relegated to hauling kayaks and
boats down to the river and making the occasional pizza run.
Perfect for a truck that gets 9 mpg...
It's a monster!
your F350 would've been nice for a few things.
And I would have been glad to help you move...in exchange for pizza and beer.
You know me, DB. I don't drink that beer but
I'd love to keep in shape. Haha.
But the pizza does sound good...
Hey wait, I just remembered. I did have pizza
while I had moved into my new place...
Have you been watching me?
Maybe I should do the same to
you one day. x)
hopefully have it back on the road at the end of November, I hope
Good luck with that tranny!
all the work I've done it owes me a PCH cruise
I hope I get to hear that exhaust when it's installed!
I miss my Ranger. Well, the Ranger I sold (The 2000 XLT 4x4 4.0l Supercab 5 speed). Those Rangers ARE fun. I sold mine in 2004 when the new F150 came out which had a bigger engine, way better HP and torque and better fuel economy at the same time! The '04 IS much quieter, better ride, more comfortable seats... but it is an automatic and much larger and has less of a "Fun" feel to it. Now if I'd ever get off my tail and get that built Ford 400 and Dana 60s stuffed under the '84 ranger, I'd be happy! Just need to get the body lift and either find an NP-205 transfer case or pick up an Atlas...
Murdercycles are great fun - if you're coordinated enough to work that twist throttle. Every time I've tried those, I end up twisting it when I didn't mean to and next thing I know, I'm on my tail and the bike's run off without me again. I stick to my '08 Polaris Sportsman 800 EFI with the nice thumb throttle. Not quite as fun as two wheels... but I have to pick and choose my battles.
The boat. That lovely, lovely aquatic get-away machine you've got is very nice indeed! Keep the frothy white stuff on top of you ice-cold beverages and out of the mechanical stuff next time, silly dog! My boat... should probably go away. Had it for 10 years now and I've never done anything with it, including buy a motor for it. I got halfway through rebuilding the trailer and then moved and haven't done anything else with it since. I just can't bring myself to part with something that was free though.
I'm glad you're treating your woman right! She's a fine lady and deserves the best! I have two distant comparisons in my garage: a '78 Bronco Ranger XLT which I've completely restored mechanically. Sunk a bored 460 in it with 10.5:1 compression and a buncha other mods, and a '52 Willys M38A1 in mostly-original condition. Yeah, neither one is pretty, but I have lots of fun with them. Working on replacing all the brake lines and wheel cylinders on the Willys at the moment.
F350 non-electrics: no battery problems here - just replaced them both three years ago. However, I rotated the tires this weekend. Breaking loose lug nuts on a 1 ton dually is decidedly no fun. :(
TLDR: I too have tons of old crap in my garage. And beside the garage, too. I think someone could make some money by selling larger garages to canines and lupines.
it still runs like new, and the 4wd works wonderfully for towing the boat up the launch ramp.
I think an '84 with a 400 V8 would be just a barrel of laughs. You must build it!
I am the most uncoordinated dog on the planet. The only reason that I can operate a twist throttle
is because my dad stuck me on a bike when I was 5 and I've been riding ever since.
It's a reflex now. Your Polaris is probably much safer however!
So you've got this boat that was free? Now I'm fascinated. What is it?
Can we get it in the water by spring?
Your Bronco and your Willys make my muzzle water. I could probably spend a day in your garage just
looking at stuff...
One ton lug nuts. Yes. My back hurts just thinking about that...
My ideal house would be a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and the rest GARAGE.
No seriously, I love Jaguars, and my dad owned a Jaguar shop for 50 years.
I grew up wrenching on XKEs and drop head 120s.
I wish you nothing but success with those beauties!
What am I holding behind my back you say? Oh don't worry your little head about that just turn around and look at the cars.
And they are expensive little buggers!
Good luck on all your projects!
