Asking for some techy help
I have an Asus G73JH laptop gaming computer that I'm about at my wits ends trying to get it fixed, if anyone out there has some insight to a resolution to this problem I would be most greatful.
Asus G73JH Republic of Gamers
This is the specs and what I've done to try to remedy the problem
Fresh install of Windows 7 - 64 bit
Intel Core i7-720QM Processor (1.6 Ghz/2.8Ghz Turbo Mode, 6MB L3 Cache)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5 Graphics Card
6GB DDR3 - 1066 RAM
Two 500 GB 7200 RPM hard drives (Seagate Momentus 7200.4/ST9500420AS) (Non RAID)
Atheros AR9285 802.11n Wireless LAN adapter
LG Blu-Ray rom/DVD RW dual layer burner
I put a fresh install of Windows 7 - 64 Bit, up to date with Windows updates, up to date AVG antivirus and Windows 7 Codec pack so it will play anything (except Blu-Ray) with WMP, you will have to download and buy the program to play Blu-Ray movies. This unit just like hundreds of thousands more of this model out there, has the same problem .... it will run programs all day long, install this and that, uninstall this and that, listen to music all day but for some reason that I can not figure out ... it locks up during video play (DVD movie, online video etc) I have taken it completely apart to make sure air ducts & fans are free from dust and debris and that both fans work properly and all was ok, I even pulled the heat sinks off the CPU and graphics processor, cleaned them to a mirror finish then put new thermal paste on them, put it all back together and it still does the same thing.
For pic of how this would run all day playing Blu Ray movies, videos off the hard drive, DVD movies, videos off the internet, http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14662318/ .
Can someone out there help ................ppppppppplease !

What happens if instead of Windows 7 you try installing something like Debian Linux and try running video and see if the same thing happens. It would help rule out driver vs hardware failure at least.
Try Media Player Classic-Home Cinema (MPC-HC). It's open source and on my system it requires only about half the CPU/GPU that WMP needs for playing the same things. It's possible that MPC-HC will use your CPU and GPU differently enough that it will play things that cause WMP to lock up.
Things like AnyMP4, AnyDVD HD, DVDFab HD or MakMKV should get around most of the problems. Once ripped/decrypted, MPC-HC definitely plays the content. That means any mp4, avi, wmv, nkv, flv, h.264, divx, xvid, etc, all play. Every format and codec I've ever downloaded has played so far, except for HEVC (h.265). I was using a version of the player that was almost two years old at the time. Once I download the latest around a month ago, it played even that newer format.
Another possible fix might be to totally disable hardware acceleration using Windows device manager. That would force your main CPU and software to handle some of the load that the video card would normally handle. That could let the video card run cooler, but it also won't be as fast that way. That might negatively affect games, but probably won't be noticed when simply playing most movies. It's hard to guess if that will work.
The numbers will look something like this "PCI\ven_8086&dev_a001&usbsys" where the number in yellow is the manufactor id and the green is the device/hardware id.
Once you go to pcidatabase.com you can enter those numbers and search through the list.
Have you tried googling your model # plus a few words (that relate to your issue)
Youtube is also a good option.
