Taking a poll from artists!

Hey guys, been a while! Thought I'd make a general query for all you people that make visual artwork with digital media:
How do you generally start a piece? Get an idea, hear a bit of music, or other forms of inspiration? Or do you just set down with a blank canvas and go? What size canvas do you normally use? Inquiring minds want to know!
For me, I'll usually just set down with a cup of coffee, some music going, and away I go. I don't usually know what I want to draw until I'm just about done with the sketching. canvas size? uuuuusually 3k x 2k, then I'll crop it down to where it looks better composed with what I drew.

I use a normal A4 paper, and honestly with the schedules that I've got, I've always got something planned to draw, and due to how things look, it's either during a lecture, or while I'm watching TV with my parents.
