A reminder of why i fursuit

HEY YOU! YEAH YOU! ARE YOU TIRED OF BORING OLD JOURNAL HEADERS? WELL LOOK NO FURTHER! WITH GALE'S NEW CRAZY ALL CAPS HEADER, YOU'LL NEVER BE BORED BY JOURNAL HEADERS AGAIN!
So I went to the Louisiana Renaissance Festival in Hammond, LA this weekend. I really had a blast. I brought my gale suit along went as a dragon.
The reactions on people's faces were priceless. As you know, the suit is patchwork, took me a long time and a lot of effort to build but a lot of mistakes were made (something I plan on improving greatly on my bird suit). Sometimes I wonder why I didnt give up building or or stop wearing it due to my own insecurities on how it looks. Below is why.
The people I interacted with today were simply stunned. I got so many compliments. People took so many pictures with me. The kids all wanted to "Slay" me. It was so amazing to see their faces light up. I realized that I put that effort in and I wear the suit to make people smile. To entertain and make someone's day better. I live for the opportunity to do something good for people. I am not wealthy or powerful or some sort of genius. BUT what I can do is entertain. I can take pictures. give hugs, and yes even be stabbed by a plastic sword for the amusement of a 5 year old. The looks on their faces were worth the heat, limited vision, sore feet, and the dirt I now have to clean off the suit. Their reactions and smiles and the memories I know they will have are worth the time and effort I put into making the suit and learning to perform in it (which I am still learning to do).
THAT is why I fursuit.

I really love it. unfortunately, I really don't know if I will have much time to be in suit again till FWA. Oh well. What I do get time for is always amazing.
It is worth it, it is so worth it. It must have been awesome to make everybody's day in the way that you could! Thank you for sharing!
It really was. I cant even describe the feeling in words properly. I had so much fun.
You've hit the nail on the head with your comments here. The main reason the majority of us suit is to entertain everyone else, and you brought that to the Ren fair. Both yourself and everyone you came into contact with ended up happy and going home with great memories!
Unfortunately, I learned a couple of months ago not to wear Fu Manchu at public venues. Although he's built pretty tough, I was constantly afraid that his eyes or something else would get broken on his head from some of the rougher kids. That took a lot of fun out of the event from my perspective..
I had one kid pounce my tail and leg but I was able to just kneel and give him a hug. Evidently he planted a kiss right on my cheek. :P He was VERY excited to see a dragon. But even he didnt pull TOO hard. Just enough to get my attention.
one kid started launching mini marshmallows at me from a handheld catapult. :P I managed to catch a few in my maw. :P was funny. Most bounced off my face. I guess I was lucky that most of the people seemed to have control of their kids.
Unfortunately a lot of kids are intimidated by him, whether I am standing or crouched down at their level.
I had one kid constantly tugging at Fu's whiskers, and then grabbed my tail and was dragging me around backwards..
The best one was a little girl who turned my whiskers into a heart..
I guess I did get lucky. getting dragged around by the tail doesnt sound fun at all. Then again thats only the 3rd time I have been in suit in any sort of crowd. The only other times were on campus at at MFM.
dawww that sounds adorable. Moments like that make it worth it.
