Sai usually needs a reboot when it stops saving or corrupting files. i run into this problem often and restarting usually converts it back to its normal state. Hope that helps!

And might I shamelessly plug Krita? SAI, as great as it is, it's pretty old and hasn't been updated in a long time. Another friend of mine has to deal with her project files corrupting all the time in SAI. Its bugs will only become more obvious with time, with no one maintaining the program.

Krita takes some mild adjusting to, but it's modern, faster, (With hardware-acceleration turned on.) has regular updates, boasts more features than SAI, and has native ports on more operating systems than Windows. I can enjoy my Wacom tablet from both Ubuntu and Windows thanks to this amazing, open-source art software. I use it for all my drawings now.
