This post did not age well (nothing to do with you or your demeanor or manner of delivery), though the latter part is slightly better because of one factor. Toumal abruptly pivoted and banned all visual (NB- only artwork, and doesn't include literary material... I find that a suspect strategy given the pedo panics inciting these laws) material of minors of an R-X rating. Before, the ban on CP in SF's TOS had alluded only to "realistic" renderings of minors (i.e., the purported fictional child porn was photomanipulated SO well it's indistinguishable from ACTUAL child porn, which is kind of a huge no-no everywhere) last year. They/Toumal elected to proscribe all cub/shota/loli artwork... but didn't manage to promulgate this or even revise the TOS in preparation. I'm not joking. I don't know how he managed to seize the title of "Most Inefficient and Capitulatory Scatter-brain and Dunderhead of Furry Porn Sites" from Dragoneer, but he did. It wasn't until an admin afterwards answered some TOS question correctly (well, wrongly, since their word didn't match the published and promulgated regulations and interpretations of them) and the exchange made the admin realize their collective fuck-up and the extent of it.

Toumal indeed seemed finicky. He didn't explain his reasoning beyond very nebulous allusions to changes in the legal climate- he actually refused to elaborate when people demanded an explanation. I will never regard him as more than a coward who committed desertion when the cultural war was becoming a reality and thus gave us our first of several rapid and severe defeats over a period of 6-12 months in rapid succession.

Oh, also, Inkbunny's policy to ban all sexual content of all humans (not just kids, but ALL) was not created due to antipathy towards people or non-furry artists, but as a preclusive defensive strategy. I easily empathize with the admins and easily conceptualize the rationale by the admins and why it superficially would seem an effective general defense, but I disagree with GreenReaper nonetheless. It just causes much confusion and antagonism from our own members and conversely garners the site no goodwill by non-members or enemies. It also wouldn't likely protect the place or GR if the UK regime goes full anti-cub SJW nanny lolcow and wants to prosecute him or whatever.

From what I hear, this cycle's been going on for a long time. People spend slightly more time there and then return to FA and Weasyl becomes a ghost town.
Very few people actually stay on Weasyl after the current wave of drama that causes them to leave.

I like Weasyl's site but the rampant SJW crusading over there means I never make a presence.

Well, last time I was uploading commissions of my admittedly bulky foo-dog OC that I've gotten over the years, and this user kept commenting and posting along with a friend about how "disgusting it is that you're portraying the stereotypical cismale in positive light" and that it was "revolting how you obviously view the cismale as perfect because society demands you find women to be perfect".
Bro's a mythical Chinese guardian-beast, he's kinda supposed to be buff! I don't know what I did to step on her SJW landmine, but god she did it on every image. I thought she was trolling but her journals were similar fiery stuff with a lot of, uh, fervent backers. I changed my username and she didn't see the second time, at least.

They aren't saying that the entire site is rampant with them, only that they have encountered more of them on weasyl than the other sites. I have actually heard this from a handful of people about weasyl, which makes me wonder if that's really a problem on that site or if it's just the same group of assholes commenting on a bunch of stuff.

I did see that some of the more self-important people had gone to Weasyl, so that does make a lot of sense!

The thing that bothers me about the whole 'I'm jumping ship' thing is that maybe one percent of those people have actually thought about their options and left because of moral issues. The rest just got caught up in the drama of it and stormed off without actually thinking about what was going on and end up back here in a matter of weeks.

I'm not here to make an argument, but the phrasing suggests that that's the implication.

Either way, I don't think there will ever be a "good" furry art-site alternative, as all of them will have their problems because, well, "furries". But if I were forced to pick a lesser evil, I would go to Weasyl. I'm already on DA, and there's a decent crowd there, but it's vastly underage and almost too large to get noticed. However, "Groups" are a nice way to get some attention and stuff.

I just made a Weasyl account, so I'll be checking it out for myself. Hopefully the SJWs stay hissing angrily in their crevices, for the most part.

I don't use my weasyl account because there is barely any activity there and I don't like that they keep changing their rules, which is something they should have figured out before starting up publicly. In terms of commissions and feedback, I prefer staying on FA, even if it's run by morons.

Honestly, my main reason for staying on FA is because this is where 90% of my commissions come from. On Weasyl, it's a good base for artists, great with displaying and all, but there seems like there are no "other" base, AKA, the customers.

In short, Weasyl is a good gallery concept, but the site has barely any buyer traffic. This I know.

They keep changing their ratings policy of what should be mature or 13 and up amd making some really dumb judgment calls (like how a certaim amount of cleavagr, even if there is no nudity, or if a female is wearing a swimsuit cant be marked general anymore) and suspending peoplr who question why they need to change their ratings when it was a certain way for a year.

People can still fall prey to this shit. While they tend to treat a round of violations as just one offense, and artists- even beloved ones- have been permanently banned through this report-trolling strategy of artists or patrons they hate, and butthurt SJWs and others can still cause a wounding parting shot if they come across when you said some mean thing about them.

But, at the end of the day, I at least don't face the threat of mere CLEAVAGE being deemed Mature/R after being PG for years here, and as feckless and uninspired and uninspiring as the staff cadre is, I know they won't outright temp/perm ban me for remonstrating or attempting dissuasion. Tumblr is nice i think! not very good for connecting with your audience because the comment system is kinda wacky.. and sometimes people get their tumblr's nuked because a cute character had small bewbs which made em appear underage or something < ~ <

It was a preclusive legal strategem. It would take some time to properly articulate the matter and why I disagree with the ationale, but this was done not because of a hatred of humans or non-furry artists/porn, or because of their hosts.

This is the main reason why I don't use inkbunny that much. I can kind of understand why they don't allow human porn since it's a furry site (although I still think it's stupid), but they expand this to anthro characters that have too many human traits as well.

This thread has intermittently amused me and incited me to respond because of succeeding events making a few assertions incorrect- sometimes humorously so. Pretty much no one can say they understand Tumblr's policies or rationale or why they enforce them as they do. They're now an inscrutable enigma within which no one wants to post either porn OR vitriolic diatribes/incitements to wage battle.

Also, Tumblr was a fucking terrible site even when just used for porn. Using its interface to acquire more twink and anime porn was an exercise in frustration and failure 90-98% of the time.

Honestly, I don't like Weasyl that much. As much as I don't like how FA is being treated, this will always be my main site for a reason. This is where the traffic is. This is where the money is. When I want a commission, I know I will find one here. If I don't clear out my fa submissions every day, by the next day I have about 200. I am watching the same people over on weasyl and haven't cleared my submissions in three months, but I only have 1100 submissions. Despite all the people claiming to be moving over there, I still get only two to four journals every day. And those people that claimed they were leaving FA forever advertise for the commissions and auctions they are accepting over on weasyl on FA. This says a lot to me in terms of how profitable that site is. I also do not like how the mods handle things any more on that site than this one, their constantly changing submission policies, or how fussy the site is. Don't get me wrong, I love the folder options, but most of the features they have, especially collections, are unnecessary. Also their thumbnail system is awful :I

Inkbunny is a great site and community. You can even blacklist tags to not see shit that might give you anxiety and/or rage attacks. It's apparently the only furry site that actually attained success on an existential/traffic level.

Ooohh absolutely not, that website is filled TO THE BRIM with child-porn. I used to have an account and I had to leave. It didn't matter how much I had blocked, it was always on the front page. That site is bad news imo, I wouldn't associate my work with it. Until staff decides to eliminate that kind of content, I will never recommend it.

i tried weasyl but it didn't work out for me personally.
it's too quiet, not enough notice. even after advertising myself here and on my tumblr the reactions and volume is just not there.
people seem to cycle on and off weasyl constantly so when it comes to commissions it was hit or miss
vs here or tumblr it's much easier to gauge work when needed

I get even fewer comments on my stories on weasyl than I do here. It's really depressing and I don't like how quiet the site is. There's almost no interaction, which is what makes fa great to me.

I've used Weasyl, but never seem to get any attention when I upload commissions I buy. SoFurry has been a bit nicer and they have some better tools, like a mass upload system for everybody to use. onestly, I only use Weasyl these days to watch a couple artists who don't use FA at all anymore.

I think this is a huge problem with Weasyl. The whole site design really biases attention toward the art rather than the people, relative to FA. The collections system further biases attention toward artists rather than commissioners. It really reduces the incentive to commission if nobody is going to watch me, initiate conversation or even comment. I haven't really met any new friends through Weasyl: other users become next to invisible.

I find FA's design promotes social networking better than any of the flankers. Sofurry comes second.

FN's even worse than Weasyl regarding interpersonal dynamics/input and over-fixation on the commercial aspect. They banned any substantive discussion on social/political matters at some point after their cub catastrophe and its aftermath, the latter of which included the victors- in a fit of stupefyingly intense ingratitude and strategic imperceptiveness- immediately fucking right off back to here despite winning (if you're going to cheat and to manipulate people during coinciding factors causing a great many to explore their little fiefdom with tempered optimism, you might as well stay on the field your ambushed and defeated enemy had to yield, not just render your dishonorable acts and the energy needed to execute/coordinate them- and the entire saga in general- utterly and infuriatingly pointless and moot.

At least Weasyl allows you to talk about more than drawing and selling/buying commissions. I completely agree/sympathize with your position on needing to be incited/induced to remain and contribute through the mundane and ordinary chatter inherent in art sites with this sort of design. Artists are people, too. If I had no expectation of ever receiving faves/comments/confessions of fapping to my characters from posting commissions, I wouldn't likely post them. Why contribute if there won't be any rewarding impetus?

In the past five years since this was posted it seems the gallery site wars are over since the entire demand for gallery sites was pummeled by Twitter. Only FA is relevant anymore except for a very small cohort of users on the other sites.

Despite everyones jump on weasyl bandwagon, the site is pretty dead.
The users will jump on you for using FA, the mods refuse to remove content, and the removed all the good features from the site.

I wont use IB for personal reasons but the owner is openly transphobic, so I would not suggest that site at all.

Does the owner exercise any administrative punishment on people who are trans though? As a site owner it is possible to have your own opinions, but as long as you separate those from your duties as an admin I can respect that.

It's not that he's transphobic. He actually likes trans people and wants them to receive services/state-run insurance to ensure they can transition. My theory is he's autistic and has an autistic level of intransigence and social blindness on the matter of pronouns and some other matters. His performance on FurryDrama_2 years ago was absolutely abysmal, and I would l tell him this to his face in the unlikely event I had to address it or he asked of my verdict and perception. But the causes were not transphobia.

First of all, outing people to their bio gender and forcing the site to show that IS transphobic, second, wtf this is from 2014.

I'm sure people would consider this is migrating wasn't such a pisspoor option to consider with how little they've given us to migrate our contact lists.
i made suggestions to Weasyl very very early on which would have been rudimentary, fully voluntary providing of FA usernames to a hidden field on Weasyl somewhere, so users could simply copy/paste watchlist from FA and import their contacts to it so it would update them as people identified themselves. This could have worked for any site that supplied a bulk watchlist like FA does. Manual Copy/Paste of a full list at one time (with a lockout of like 5 minutes and like 500 contacts or something to keep people from spamming the tool to break the site)

You can see where that suggestion has landed despite how easy the tool would have been to create for checking A=B=Friend Invite (Directly into the site instead of some side site that doesn't even support adding the friends itself.

If I have to go through and hunt for every person that trickles into that site over 5 months, I'm just not sure I want to bother, y'know? I did try to help those guys when they first launched, but I was pretty much met with direct disinterest even with some 1 on 1 time with developers for the site.

every furry website sucks. there are no good ones. the only reason people use FA is because its where they get the most exposure, pun intended.

Already watching you there. I'm gonna try to post there first from now on. I also joined SoFurry, which I actually really like. I'm just waiting for Weasyl to get a little pop up previewer so I can go and look at submissions easier. I have the add-on for here called FA previewer so I can look through my submissions faster.

ive been maining weasyl since the whole zaush thing along with my girlfriend- neither of us have had any problem posting any range of art, so im not sure what some people in here are on about (maybe it use to be an issue but has since improoved? i dunno its unclear)
its quieter, but i still get daily submissions of 20 to 30 or so to look through; so i dont think its really all that bad.

(also; ive noticed when these things happen, a lot of users around here get super irate at the mention of moving. hidbdkdbdk why?)
