No idea. My only guess (and it's probably wrong) is that they are compressing/converting the file. Like with the warning of "if the file is too big we'll compress it and resize it" But I don't actually know.

Ever since the DDOS, FA has been compressing pics to save on server load and storage space.

Strangely, everything I've uploaded has come out fine... I usually upload .jpeg images under the size limit.

HTTPS would only help if the image was being compressed in transit. FA is actually serving up the crappy image, so it doesn' thelp.

Yeah something like 18-19k they said all donations were going to improve and upgrade the site and then after the fundraising was over they said 10k of it went to 'back taxes' or something. If the people running this site are as incompetent as they want us to apparently believe they are then it's a miracle that FA even runs at all. I'm surprised there are people who'd even give these chuckleheads money.

sacrifice your soul to the devil, or upload everything elsewhere first, or just don't post. it's not an issue on your side, it's FA's problem.
I'd just use a different art site altogether until they fix it, but providing an uncompressed alt source with your posts should suffice for the time being.

Not sure if you tried this yet but have you thought of saving the art in a PNG format as well as making it smaller so it fits within the size limit for the site cause if you upload anything past it, it will covert it down to a jpeg by making it smaller an making it look pixalated.

Yeah, it's what Jorge said. FA won't let you upload anything bigger than 1200x1200 (or so) and it'll convert everything to JPG, pixelating the fuck out of it.

But there's a solution: After uploading a picture, click on the "Change Submission File" thingie, and re-upload the picture. It'll keep its original size and type of file, and that way, it shouldn't pixelate or create artifacts. You might have to F5 to see the change.

There's nothing wrong with you, your image, or FA. FA uses a 3rd party caching company called CloudFlare. It's their fault for horribly compressing peoples images and serving them back to you like chewed up food. FA retains the original images which are fine, provided they fit within 1280px. The only workaround of fixing the image quality problem is by bypassing the CloudFlare servers directly to your image on FA with a URL query. Add a question mark and string of letters to the URL of the image and it should work. Like this:

Edit the submission in FA and reupload it.

This uploads a non compressed, any size version due to a bug.

Just like what the others said, either edit the submission and reupload at the original resolution, or submit things at a max 1280x1280.
I gave up since most people can't be bothered to hit refresh each time i submit a new piece of art, i just upload everything at 1280px

Save it here as a png file and resize it to max. 1280 x 1280.

That way FA won't rape the quality of the image and it'll look at least somewhat smooth.

Yeah, they look the same. I find artwork on F.A. looks different on every computer screen.
