Midwest Fur Fest
It's with much disappointment that I'm canceling my plans to attend MFF. I expressed earlier that it was going to be a financial burden on me this year, and I was humbled by the friends who stepped up to the plate to offer me assistance. You are all a blessing to me, and much more than I deserve. While working at home, I'll be warmed by the memories of you guys offering me assistance.
Real Life Update
A little over a week ago, at about 6h15, my wife was driving her car down an old country road when she lost control of steering and slammed several times into guard rails. I'm thankful she was safe, but our [only] car was rendered worthless. After a week of renting, and her being unable to work, we financed a Volkswagon Jetta from a used car dealership. This is the main reason why MFF won't be in my plans this year.
Why I Do Furry Art
It has taken me over six years of commissions from you fine folks before I finally hit my artistic stride. The more work I produce, the more commissions I receive. I've been given a unique opportunity to serve people through freelancing, as only a handful of people in the world sustain on this model. Half of it is what I chose for myself, while the other half is that my clients consistently choose me. In working these furry commissions, we're not working on fanart. We're not selling anything. We're not plugging into a commercial system that manipulates others for selfish gain. We're creating characters that represent pieces of who each of us is. This is as fine art as it gets, folks. Because I love art and I love learning about people, I'm convinced this is the greatest job I could ever hope for.

2014 has been the hardest year of my life. I've learned more about myself this year than ever before. This also is the first year I focused on personal work—some anthro, some not—but that's for a later journal. I told myself that I will no longer hold back anything about my beliefs. I will discuss anything I learned through my personal experiences. Get ready for some weird ideas, get ready for some collabs and trades with some great artists, and get ready for some of the best work I've ever created!

I have probably mentioned this before, and I don't know where Leonard Nimoy pulled this quote from, but it is one I take to heart.
In any case, reminded me of the concept of The Muse existing outside of ourselves, something I've considered from my own experiences:

It's exciting to hear about what's coming from you! Art made with the sole purpose of satisfying the creator that responds to their interest and sensibilities, is the type I personally find the most interesting and enjoy the most. I've studied arts for four years and what I have observed is that there's no comparision between artwork made for an assignments and those that grow naturally from one's own inner will.
Your work is always refreshing to see, if weird ideas start appearing, they will be damn welcome! I'm totally looking forward to what you come up with c:
Can't remember if I mentioned it, but If you want sneak-peeks at my personal work, those normally start on my instagram.com/jonathanvair.

We are extremely. . . Blessed (for lack of a better word) to have our art as a medium of expression. Many many people are unable to get out what they feel, suffering anger or happiness, in such a way that you can look at it, analyze it, feel it and for a while be it - just to grow from it.
Can't wait to see what else you have in store for us and for yourself.
“Part of the problem with the word 'disabilities' is that it immediately suggests an inability to see or hear or walk or do other things that many of us take for granted. But what of people who can't feel? Or talk about their feelings? Or manage their feelings in constructive ways? What of people who aren't able to form close and strong relationships? And people who cannot find fulfillment in their lives, or those who have lost hope, who live in disappointment and bitterness and find in life no joy, no love? These, it seems to me, are the real disabilities.”
― Fred Rogers, The World According to Mister Rogers: Important Things to Remember
This Sterne guy, he gets it! :>
What a great quote, thank you for sharing!
