New Species - Gamma Dogs

No one knows for sure where or when the Gamma Dogs originated. They earned the name simply because their fur glows due to radiation; and though their tails are more cat-like, have cloven hooves on their hind legs instead of paws, and have horns and large fangs for protection, they're still called "dogs" because of their wolflike snout and attitude.
They are found to always have the same shade of dark grey fur, but their markings are aways different designs and colors. This is believed to be a form of identification amongst their packs.
Unlike most Earth animals, Gamma Dogs have more than two sexes; male, female, hermaphrodite, and mermaphrodite. Also unlike Earth animals, a couple of the same sex can still get pregnant. That is, if two females were to fornicate, one or both may be impregnated. Consequently, two males, herms, or merms may also be impregnated. This iliminates "gender roles" in the packs, yet an individual may still take on a gender identity unlike their biological sex. That allows for one family of Gamma Dogs to have a "mother" figure and a "father" figure, if they so choose. Gestation can take between 24-30 months, during which the parent gains 5x their weight, losing it right after birth. Their litters are usually between 10-20 pups. The longer gestation periods make up for the abundance of youth to control overpopulation. Gamma Dogs live between 150-200 years, reaching adulthood at around 40.
