The worrying thing is, the UK often follows the US is things like this.

I can't help thinking some women love the attention,
love dragging all the little private things out into the open,
enjoy hurting someone who tried to make them happy,
and get a thrill when the jury takes pity on them.
I've just been told by one that "I'm sick of talking"
because I've been trying so hard to help her, to listen,
and to be there for her in the last couple of days.

If couples were serious and dedicated there is little that could sever their commitment and or love. if they were willing to work it through (save for maybe infidelity or something worse).
But Americans especially suffer from Disposable Syndrome (my words) Throw it out and start over... whatta load. And it's no way to lead a life, together or apart.
What I wonder is How the guy musta felt "hey! My wife got me a penis extension!!"
or.... "uhhhhhh, my wife got me a penis extension...." Head down, he contemplates drowning himself in his coffee....
I dunno about the wise part, but I try to see things from as many angles as I can.

When I was in Japan, I was on a tourist visa, so technically it was just a long holiday.
Now we've made our diagnosis, you called it Disposable Syndrome (I've heard it called Throwaway Society too) what's the long term prognosis? What can be done about it? I think it's safe to say it'll get worse before it gets better, but it can't go on, surely. Where will it lead us? How far can it go? To a society where a relationship is an afternoon of dating and then sex, with no consequence, because pregnancy is easily terminable, and much like relationships, babies can be "thrown out, and start over." Even then, will it stop getting worse? If it doesn't, something has to give.
Lots of questions. I'm sure you'll cope.
The prognosis is already making itself known. The "family unit" has been compromised by Liberal thinking as much as disposable syndrome, Morals have been attacked and defeated. Things that 20 years ago, were unthinkable are normal now.
Americans are still getting their cake and eating it too. They can still afford the big gas sucking cars, their McDonald's and Starbucks, and their televised sports (bread and circuses anyone?)
All such behaviors saw to the collapse of Rome, and before them Greece. Embrace hedonism for now, let the next generation bear the costs, and bury the dead.
It is my honest opinion that we are watching the "greatest experiment" (the United States) as a society, collapse.
Where will it go? Our economy tanking has already dragged most of our First World trading partners into some discomfort as it is. Wanna guess what happens when we cease to be a superpower?
All this, and the collpase of moral regard, has netted us the mess we are in, we are stupid uneducated, whiney, self serving babies.
As far as relationships go, women need to make it clear that dinner and a quickie is NOT sufficient, and that they will not settle for it. Because of who women are and what they can do, they can reasonably exert a power for change. The actions of the ERA in the past, has lead to a generation of unmanly apologetic and ultimately "whipped" males.
Respect for self and others in necessary, or we will degrade further, and I don't wanna think about that now.
A newly-wed couple were just leaving the church when a bus smashed into the wedding car. The groom was unharmed, but his new bride was injured severely.
