If you resize it to 1280 pixels before uploading, it should work fine! FA automatically resizes anything greater and converts to a JPG, losing the transparency. :)

You don't need to do it manually. Google "bulk image resizer" and take your pick.

Might try using one but so far the ones I've tried kind of fuck up dimensions if I enter different sized pictures

I recall there was a batch resizer I used to use that would let you enter a maximum dimension, and it would resize to fit it, keeping the picture aspect ratio.

Is there much point in uploading larger file sizes, anyway, when most computer monitors aren't able to display the entire image at full resolution?

First link in the google search seems to be able to do it: lets you specify a height and/or width.

FA is ridiculous. I don't see why it requires images be uploaded at a specific size, or why it would ever convert anything to JPG.
