What's the story behind your character?

I've been feeling journal happy lately so here is another for you all. :D I was thinking about characters today and how they always have unique and personal stories behind them, which I like hearing about. So, what's the story behind yours?
I suppose I'll start. :D
Wooper is a feral axolotl, which I made up one night while stocking shelves at Walmart. Since I was on a huge axolotl kick (this was before I had any of my own as pets) I thought it'd make a unique and fun little critter. She represents my derpy, snarly, animalistic side and is waaaay more temperamental than I ever am.
The Wraith is a monster character, that came in three stages. Stage one was my obsession with Hydralisks for Starcraft, which I still harbor to this day. Stage two was a bone version of said Hydralisk, which a lot of people still prefer. (I don't blame them!) And finally we have The Wraith as we see her today, who represents my justice seeking and serious side. Her personality is like my goal when it comes to sticking up for what's right - something I find really difficult sometimes.
So those are my main two. Lets hear your guys'!

I can offer this one though - the original version of my dragon which my account is named after was created solely as an output to vent my anger and nasty thoughts, considering I was frequently bullied and put under stress.
But I can't post that yet, not without that sketch. :D
Boombadapa its a secret!
I think I'm gonna skip Sauria's story because it's too long even when staying meta.
So let's settle for Tani and Minerva, since the two are "related" on the meta level.
Minerva at first was at first a character inspired by one of Doug Winger's pictures of anthro equines, and shi was quite a crazy, seductive character that had nothing to do with Sauria and was part of another (bad) storyline I made. Over time, after the story was dropped, I kept the characters and Minerva went through various changes as I went through various schools and some fits of depression before becoming the sweetest eldritch abomination of darkness soulbound to Sauria shi is now.
Tani is kinda the anti-Minerva, shi has absolutely nothing to do with hir, but Minerva was hir basis. The idea was the same: a good, powerful eldritch abomination, but Tani went to the crazy, fetishy path instead, with a completely different design, reminiscent of demons and became more of a anti-hero, seemingly oblivious to the damage shi can cause sharing hir dark power.
I guess the two were made because I love the "dark is not evil" trope.
Also, I LOOOOVE the "dark is not evil" trope. I'm actually disappointed when movies and TV shows don't delve into the intricacies that "dark" characters can have; it seems so unrealistic. Life is confusing and messed up, and things are often not what they appear. So stories that can do that well make me a very happy Rikko. :D
Also, I HATE how insect races or reptilian races are always automatically evil. WHY!? Just because they have alienish and BADASS body/facial structures does not mean their evil. BAH! *end rant*
And speaking of reptilian races, Sauria's species is based on raptors as you may know and she is partner with a "species" of techno-viruses that feeds on matter and thoughts to grow in number and form new and bigger forms, acting kinda like blob monsters or grey goo.
And despite this, they aren't evil either and helped Sauria's species go through a new nanotechnological era as well as allowing them to explore the galaxy much better. Also, they're an hive-mind and unlike usual representations, the main "AI queen" of the hive-mind isn't actually seeking to understand and gain emotions, but by the time of the current story, actually has them and is handling it pretty well.
But my second Sona, Shilo the wolf, is my sweet side. Same background story and stuff though. Related to my main, Aspen.
I guess Im kinda boring XD

My other characters have much more complicated background stories though, that all tie into the same alien world thing they all live in.
Racoon Dog (actually a completely separate species of canine): http://www.factzoo.com/sites/all/im.....-nice-coat.jpg
Thycaline (now extinct): http://cdn2.arkive.org/media/97/970.....outh-agape.jpg
Dhole (kinda reminds me of a mix between a jackal and a fox): http://mungaiandthegoaconstrictor.f.....1/dhole-51.jpg
And as far as wild cats go, there are gobs of cool ones.
Lynx (also has ear tufts, of course): http://www.snareshop.com/images/lynx5.jpg
Oncilla: http://cdn1.arkive.org/media/35/35B.....-in-a-tree.jpg
Serval (probably the closest mix between a jackal and a feline that you could find): http://georginadp6.weebly.com/uploa.....19214_orig.jpg
And just for a really weird one, the Jaguarundi: http://yabbi.ru/uploads/users/14/20.....7672249494.jpg
I kinda went crazy there, but yeah, looking at different species usually helps me think about this stuff. :)
I have a butt load of characters...but ill just pick 1
Sixty- a Chinese Crested (Hairless) Was made around the time I was really getting into Rping. Back then I had fun playing a Dominatrix, and I wanted to create a character from an uncommon species. And make abit different from how her species was. Before I finished her.....she got alot of attention. She didnt have any pics back then either. So...yeah, she turned heads right away.
Im more of a cat person, and I dislike small dogs more then big dogs. But I found Chinese Crested to be very cute and pretty. Told myself it would be the one toy dog I would get.
At the time she had no real personality to her, just a sexual predator. In a way she kinda still is, but she's also kind of become a 'strong black woman' and motherly kind of character...Thats still sexually driven, has vanity as high as the witch in Snow White.
Also, I'm not sure where to stick this in, but the "strong black woman" personality is one of my favs. XD
Keeps her unique I guess? lol
Can you imagine the Matinence on those things though?
I dont even like putting that much time into my hair. Id rather shave it.
OMFG those things are real!? I thought I was being trolled when someone told me there were Miniature Huskies. I thought they were just large puppies...Oh thats so cute~
And XD
I understand you on the hair thing, I'm not that good at hair care myself. And I imagine that you'd have to dry the hair really well, or else it'd trap water in your ears which would be no good at all. @.@ Still, I bet a species like that would come up with some pretty cool hair+ear styles. :D
Vinson was created in the labs of the Advanced Genetic Research Institute (AGRI) in Santa Barbara, California. He was part of the second generation of genetic recombinants to come out of the lab -- Sy_Sable was one of the first generation. Like many of the AGRI creations, Vinson was assigned to a human family to be raised into human society -- but, unfortunately, in his case they didn't choose the humans as well as they might, perhaps. The father jumped ship and soon the family fell apart. Looking to fix things, AGRI instead hooked up Vinson with Sy Sable as a mentor. Soon, the pair became much, much more than that. And Vinson thankfully stabilized.
Vinson Mink makes his living as a writer, musician, and sound engineer.
So here's the story of Loneclaw: ever since I saw a picture of a dromaeosaurid, I wanted to be one and I came to view myself more as a dromaeosaurid than as a human. Eventually, I put down my fursona on paper and named him "Razor" (super-creative, I know). This was the first iteration of Loneclaw.
Then, when I was a little older, I became interested in constructed fictional languages and decided to create my own. I renamed my fursona "Sriseru"; in my constructed language "sri" meant "alone/lonesome", "ser" meant "claw/hunter", and "-u" was a naming suffix to denote male gender. So the name "Sriseru" meant "loneclaw" or "lonesome hunter".
About two years ago I redesigned my fursona into this, but was never fully satisfied with how it looked.
Now, with your help, I have once again redesigned my fursona and changed his name to the old one's direct translation. :3
I also used to have a dragon fursona along with my callidiraptor (what I call Loneclaw's species) one. I never drew him, but he was a feral dragon and represented my more primal, wild side, while Loneclaw represented my nerdy, science-loving, intellectual side. Eventually, I became more in touch with Loneclaw than with my dragon side.
Loneclaw is basically me, but he is slightly braver and both more intelligent and knowledgeable than I am.
I like seeing how Loneclaw has developed through the years! It seems like all characters go through a "Razor" stage, if that makes sense. >.> Also, I don't remember if I ever asked you this, but how did you feel when archeologists discovered that dromaeosaurids had feathers? I imagine you already had an idea of your character at that point, and obviously changed him to fit the new information we have now, so I'm curious if that bothered you or not. (It kind of bothered me for a while, and I don't even have any character attachments, so that's why I ask.) XD
About the feathers, it did bother me for a very good while, but nowadays I've gotten so used to it that any featherless theropod looks naked to me. XD
I really, really adore how you have put so much thought into representing yourself with multiple characters. Furthermore, I like how they actually tie into real parts of us as people - its very compelling. I have a question; what species (or combination of species) will Chess be, if anything?
Hu, Nic, and Ed are also cool in the sense that they represent what each part of you is interested in romantically. I'd love to see what they end up looking like, and how they compliment their respective mates. :D
But yeah, this is all very cool, thank you again for sharing. :D I can't wait until all of these characters are finalized and, perhaps, even visualized! I'm already imagining a sweet scene between Hu and Eru, but that makes sense being that they're basically made for each other. ^-^
But now there are going to be two MORE!? Who are these going to be? :D
Maybe a year before you and I met, I came up with Raraka. He wasn't really designed to represent me either. At least not all of me. It was about when I was starting to figure out sex-positivity instead of being all self-righteous about how repressed I was, so I needed an alter-ego to safely explore that without outing myself as a gross perv (The secret's totally out now. Garbage Bat 2015). There was also some pretentious metaphor that had something to do with being all graceful and competent until I get thrown outside my comfort zone, where I can't even pretend that I know what I'm doing, and so just avoiding the hell out of that. Ever seen a fruit bat on sand? Exactly.
Back then, Raraka was just this generic black-and-orange fruit bat. When I finally awakened as the Sage of Fabulousness, Raraka got pinned down and sprayed with pink dye and glitter. It's been pretty cool, seeing how I've changed as a person since then, tbh. Raraka was only supposed to represent an *aspect* of who I am, but over the years, I've really grown into the character. He's been like an idol that I aspire to, and definitely helped me get to where I am today.
There were few less-realised characters along the way. Crow the striped hyena never really represented me personally. He was more of an alt for RP. I wanted to get him made into a fursuit, but I ended up getting a giant sparklebat instead. He still holds a place in my heart, though :>
Then there's the ringtail lemur. This guy was stirring about in my mind around when I came up with Raraka, but he never *really* saw the light of day. I didn't even give him a name, though James always felt like a good fit. At the time, he felt *perfect*, but that was also when I started questioning my identity, gender, etc, hence the lack of real development. I never got any art commissioned of him, but when I came across this piece by
That's pretty much all of them. I want to get a tattoo soon, depicting some of the animals I've identified with over the years. Not the actual furry characters, but generic, non-anthro versions of them (furry but not too furry, yo). I've commissioned
Thanks for posting anyway <3 Was cool to read your story, and a bunch of others
Yeah, I'd say out of all the characters you mention the bat fits the best of them all. The lemur idea would be the second; for some reason you just seem like those two animals and I'm not really sure why. :) Do you think Raraka will change more over time? Maybe as you explore more parts of yourself that you don't know about yet?
