This is an unfortunate example of when extremist ideas go out of control. Sadly people like this will go to any means to keep their power of fear and control and has little to nothing to do about religion. Religion is merely used as an excuse in such cases, but in the end people suffer all around and halt criticism and open thinking. To have such people exist in this day and age is baffling.

The other thing that bothered me is how religious people where trying to kill same sex couples right to legally bind (Marry) themselves together. Prop 8 was such bigotry.

Alright, sorry for the delay! I had a long day yesterday, needed to re-compose my thoughts. I hope you don't mind a read, I really wanted to get this down as best as I could.

I think sadly such things are based on dated concepts and really should be abandoned/adapted. I will say up front, I am not religious. I try to be a good person but I cannot honestly, in this day and age, put my unquestionable faith in something so supernatural when technology (when not abused) has done more for me than I could ever imagine. That is not to say I do not respect how they wish to live, I can understand the need to have a peace of mind, of "spirituality". I can kinda relate this to my desire to create my muse Ryune, she is something I can focus on to keep me going in hard times.

However, such things should not be dictated to the mass public as laws. I draw the line when such beliefs, mindsets and regulations affect others, especially on such a scale. In this case, its quite a sad excuse and seems to be a strong contradiction in separation of church and state. Then again, it seems that has been happening for an awful long time now.

We know so much of our world, of common sense and how things actually affect each other on a very intimate level. We cannot honestly let such dated views dictate us anymore. Many have already adapted, but it seems some people are afraid of change more than they should. I also think such people need to realize that such records and documents of religious dogma have been changing as well, many had to be interpreted because such things were made by those mostly illiterate, or at least far less than how we are now for certain. Also such things, which people seems to dictate as directly from a supernatural source, all point it to being manmade. It all was manmade and the supernatural was merely hearsay and not conclusive.

AGAIN, I DO NOT HAVE A AGENDA AGAINST THOSE WHO NEED SPIRITUALITY. It is simply that in this case such people are forcing things onto others for little to no good reason to the detriment of modern society. We have had the same issue with so many other things, be it books, music, video, and even POKEMON GAMES as well (which by the way the church officials of the world told people to calm down about and was actually something GOOD). This is a modern age that needs modern common sense.

In summary, this needs to change, and this mindset and excuse does nothing good to my perspective based on how the real world works.

I think the people your talking about are expressing a different emotion than they believe. They say they hate...I believe they are afraid. They fear what they don't understand. And that fear then becomes hate. Most of the evil in the world comes from the fears of people. Good folks are the people that stand up to the fear and hate. Folks who are brave enough to accept or tolerate people, but beliefs, or the lack of there, and new ideas.

It's all over the news since yesterday, I know. Lots that can be said and analyzed... overall I think this is a sign that the occident urgently needs to find better ideas to fight extremism (of any sort, not just religion). Extremism needs to be taken even more seriously, and given even more attention fast. But without touching people's freedoms... since I know those who love spying (like the NSA) will quickly jump to use this as an excuse for their actions.

I've actually found it works in reverse: That the deeply religious often need religion because they are the ones with no moral compass; that they are literally incapable of behaving themselves without the constant threat of some invisible overlord on the sky who will cast them into Hell if they ever step out of line.

But it ends up having the opposite effect. They always naturally end up gravitating towards whichever preacher tells them that God always wants whatever it is that they want and encourages them to use religion as a blanket permission slip to be as big of an asshole as possible.
