Somewhat belated Christmas and Birthday post
10 years ago
So, my sister, my niece, and my nephew were all out-of-state this past Christmas and didn't get home until after my birthday (which is the 2nd of January). I couldn't make it to their gift-exchange on the 4th of January, because on my birthday, a nosebleed forced me to cancel my birthday-dinner plans and go directly to the emergency-room, where I had to get my left nostril chemically cauterized.
Let me be clear. That was not merely unpleasant. The doctor takes what looks like a six-inch-long fireplace match. The "match-head" is inserted into the nostril and touched to the bleed-source. On contact, my nose, instantaneously, feels like an entire can full of riot-grade pepper-spray has been POURED into my left sinus-cavity. It was utterly EXCRUCIATING.
I was also diagnosed with bacterial conjunctivitis (aka "pink-eye") in BOTH eyes and prescribed eyedrops with a corticosteroid to reduce inflammation. Fortunately, the eye-drops worked well but I was warned that I was contagious, and so didn't dare attend the gift-exchange, which made me feel rather guilty for not being there to give holiday good-wishes to family, but I didn't want to infect them.
My sister and her two kids collectively gave me two Hershey milk-chocolate-bars (weighing in at a pound each) and $100 cash.
I've decided on what to buy with the money. I'm combining the $100 gift with a bit of money I had saved to buy the Blu-Ray releases of:
RWBY Season 1
RWBY Season 2
Baraka
the Back to the Future trilogy
and the Spears & Munsil HD Benchmark & Calibration Blu-Ray discs, 2nd Edition.
Also, some dust-caps for my telescope.
