As far as concept, there's something about this Yoshitoshi print i've had... well not dreams about, but occasionally when I close my eyes I see this pose like an after image for a second, does that make sense? It's latent somehow.

I don't want to be in a kimono or anything, there's just something about the pose and the unusual way he's holding that bamboo section ... Japanese theatre is such a vocabulary of pose. I don't know what I'd be holding, but Ryan wields a dagger in many of his pieces. Along the same line of thinking, i've also had this idea of a piece that is cropped in the bottom like a bust, but having both of Ryan's arms / hands outstretched and depicted in full, creating an absurdly horizontal piece that almost becomes like a landscape with Ryan's head looking down-ish in the center, more mystical than body builder in tone.

Or just ignore it all and have at it, I trust your intuition.

Your character is so neon that I'm not confident I could be able to do his design justice unless you gave me some wiggle room. The neon green and purple are such powerful elements that I had to find a subtle way to convey them harmoniously: I opted for purple stripes that interact with the electricity, and made their colour the distinguishing feature to counter omitting the human hair style. I also lit the back of the head with a yellow to make the purple pop a bit more.
