SONIC: A Very Quick History

Although I like a bit better the 'Mario' franchise, I miss the time when Sega made a lot of noise around the videogame industry with the debut of their mascot Sonic, and then creating an interesting rivalty with Nintendo during the 90's.
So here's a documentary to bring back these good memories:

*sighs* I'm sorry man... I just don't have passion for Sonic anymore.
Plus, I remember how creepy it was when I've seen for the first time a Sonic game with the "Official Nintendo Seal". For a second I thought I was in the Twilight Zone.
Sometimes I believe that Nintendo, ironically, would be more capable to make a good new Sonic game, respecting the original concept of the series.
For Christ's sake, I just realized that even some of the fan-made games are better that the ones Sega spits at us, taking all of our money and giving one big NOTHING in return.
...but then they tossed in the Werehog stuff... -_-'
I think my friend put it best...
Sonic Unleashed is like a roller coaster - the Sonic stages are the ride and the Werehog stages are like waiting in the line. If they took out all of the Werehog stages, this game would almost be worth buying even without extra stages. The game is like a 9, mixed with a 5, mixed with a 7 for the central hub world. I can forgive the hub, though.
Sonic Team (or what's left of them) ALMOST had it... but they added the Werehog stages and just killed the game. Hopefully if they even ATTEMPT something else, they'll have learned from their mistakes =/
We're also gonna totally rip off God of War while were at it and introduce the worst character ever in the Sonic Franchise... Chip. *shudders*
... I would think that now that they know they have a winning system, they'll be able to potentially make a game in the future that takes all of what made Unleashed good and none of what made it bad and finally have Sonic back in effect.
Hell, if a 50 Cent game can get good or even decent reviews, anything's possible!
Awesome Possum: "I'm Awesome"
Everyone: "No, just no"
I can't really say what it is myself. Some people hate the sheer number of characters the Sonic Team introduces... I say that I like them, for the most part. I have said before that 3D killed Sonic, but that hardly explains the numbers sold for Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Then there's the opinion that the storylines the new games go with are rediculous. But honestly, with an on-going franchise where the same characters keep coming up, I'd say you have little choice but to go all over the board with it. >.>
Makes me wonder how, even now, the usual Mario VS Bowser thing is still entertaining, yet Sonic VS Robotnik/Eggman isn't to most anymore.
I can even remember seeing most of those commercials lol.
thanks for posting this dude ^w<
Hee, i started my sonic comic collection @ #18 & this month they're hitting issue #196 so he's not completely dead lol. (& no, I've not been a good boy and collected all the issues in between, after getting married and having a kid I had to kinda quit)
I think sonic's downfall is that they tried to add too much in every single modern game they come out with. In the beginning there was speed. (oh and sonic, robotnik & a few aminanals lol) Now there's (insert most everything known to man here). Sonic's story started out as save the critters & now it's just all over the place.
Anyway....as it's on topic http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/vi.....c-the-hedgehog
If you don't watch it, you hate sonic by default lol

Alright guys! This is a quick review of Sonic the Hedgehog for the---

I too kinda liked Sonic's original rough design, but it's funny how he originally had a human girlfriend and the controversy now with Sonic 06.
After Sonic Adventure 2, I actually said to myself, "Sonic isn't gonna be as good as he was in the Genesis era." SA2 was the last decent major console Sonic game that I liked, until his appearance in Brawl.
Sonic doesn't need gimmicks and countless characters included. I bet if they just went old school, bring back the old Robotnik, give us 2D/3D level running with maybe some classic story to it like with Knothole and the Floating Isle and what the comics did, it would do fantastic. It worked for Street Fighter to go back to it's old school roots with a graphical enhancement and flawless execution.
Sonic Team needs to listen to -someone- granted.. but not the just "the fans". The fans insist Eggman's name be Robotnik, insist every stage become Green Hill, insist on side scrolling games only, now they even insist Sonic's eyes be black and his shoes not have buckles (despite his shoes always having buckles) and that the humans are gotten rid of (despite Eggman being a human), and lose all the characters "except Tails and Knuckles". The fans frankly have nothing to contribute I'm sorry to say.
and yes Street Fighter went to its roots with SF4, but many series fans agreed that Street Fighter 3 was the very best in the series anyway, so I don't know why, there's a movement of sorts, to mutate every franchise to what the general audience perceived it as in the very height of its popularity.
I think they just need to try and get Sonic working well by himself for this generation where people really are excited for a Sonic game. It just seems like for a few years now with each release of Sonic, it gets sketchier and sketchier for them. I know that where I was excited for the previous Sonic game (That was downright pathetic), it made less interested in Sonic Unleashed which ended up doing bad.
Except for Okami, video games now look like Fritz Lang movies (sob)
Zelda series anyone?
Nice videos. I got really nostalgic of my childhood days playing Sonic the Hedgehog 1/2/3 for my Sega Mega Drive. Last Sonic Game that I really enjoyed was Sonic Adventure 2. I really do think they need to STOP.
I mean look how mario went. He did fantastic during the war years. His peak was mario 64 for many of us. Then there were the few oddballs like mario tennis and mario does accounting (>.>) and mario teaches typeing but then he vanishes for a bit to come out with galaxy which is an overall fantastic continuation on the legacy that was mario 64.
It wouldnt be hard to do a redo for sonic like that.
Sonic 1 was awesome. 2 was AWESOME and 3 was just orgasmic.
Throw in a few oddballs as expected.
Sonic adventure comes, pretty good, had a few unneeded bits.
Sonic adventure 2 comes, sonic comes out of his bad game rut.
And now its all downhill again. they woulda been better off waiting for a while and coming up with a fan-supported GOOD game.
not like... Shadows game.. With the guns.. And ick.
It's not just that though. It's the fact that the new Sonic games are genuinelly BAD games. It's not a matter of opinion there really. I've only managed to watch my little brother play Unleashed, because if it's so god damned awful to look at, then playing it would completely kill my faith in the Sonic series. D=
I still like the characters, but when it comes to games and such...I dunno
Sadly I must admit that Sonic has become too...fringe...for me now and I don't like him as I did. Ironically enough (looks around THIS VERY WEBSITE) Sonic has become something I never wanted him to be, and have forever put his games on the shelves without even playing them. The last Sonic game I officially played was Sonic Adventures 2. (I have and played Sonic Riders, but literally just one time) His image forever perverted in my mind by a particular fanbase, and unoriginal gaming I don't think I could ever turn back.
However I was shocked to hear Sonic made a cameo appearance on The Simpsons. I want to see that episode.
The new Sonic games are not even really about Sonic; you could replace Sonic with any other character and they'd make the same amount of sense. I've played a few of the recent titles for 20 or 30 minutes each and wanted to gouge my own eyes out with the controller.
Hopefully someone can save the franchise, but I'm not optimistic. My understanding is that Sega of Japan is pretty screwed up, and the American subsidiary is definitely in pretty dire straits right now.
i don't see why people fight over what is the best, seems pointless as the FA fourms here, and yes i still collect the comics and games for insrpation, better than anything on the market today
in conclusion, whiel tohers here my have their opinons, it doesn't bother me, just to point it out if i do a drawing of one
o design de Ristar era bem mais ativo do que o de Sonic, e ele eainda usava as mãos para acertar os inimigos, nadava e voava!!
eu creio que na guerra dos mascotes o meu 1º lugar vai para Crash Bandicoot mesmo!
But, as far as that goes, I liked TurboGrafx/PC Engine games best...
