so.....some advice?

heya friends....I have a slight...issue? Im hoping some encouragement and/or advice would be appreciatd.
First let me start of with saying I feel terrible, but that's not the concern XD. I recently got into a slight problem with my upstairs neighbours.
They were giving their dog trouble today and because of the floors we can normally hear all their steps and loud voices. Today it sounded like the guy was abusing his dog, but not physically. I dunno what happened but I swear the dog was stuck in his cage while the guy taunted and poked at him.
It sounded like befor that he cornered the growling dog, yelling the entire time, and taunted the dog to bite him....I guess the dog lunged but then it sounded like the guy pinned the dog down. The entire time the dog is barking and growling.....
I was so fucking pissed I was shaking, so I slammed the roof with my broom, breaking it...(sorry broom) and he stomped on the floor in response......then went somewhat quiet.
He started with the dog again and I called the spca and told them, which all they can do is go and see the people but if the dog is fine they cant help...but anything is enough......
my question is, did I do the right thing with the roof pounding and calling? I mean it sounded terrible....I could clearly hear the cage bars....and what sounded like a stick or some hard object across them
my adenalin is wearing off so I feel absolutely terrible, but I wanna know what you think....

He was 1 causing a domestic disturbance 2 abusing the dog maybe not hitting it but dogs are very social creatures.
The more he would of taunted that dog the more it would of came to hate him and what does hate mean.
It means it will probably end up biting him on the hand or at the worse go straight for the neck which is terrible cause its not the dogs fault its the owners but the dog will get put down.
If this happens again call the cops and the people who rented you your apartment and file a noise complaint.
And when you call the cops make sure to tell him he may be abusing his dog so when they go there they ask to see the dog
thanks again....that poor dog tho...hes glad I didn't see him do it and could only hear it....I h=guess I should be thankful I didn't hear the dog wimper in pain or ild be in jail
I'm not joking with this, she really is known for killing animals, her NAME is even on the websites. It's better to call
the phone for this rather have the animal be bullied.
