Anyone still care about the PSP?

I have an original fat (model 1001) PSP that I only recently 'hacked' and am attempting to run emulators on. I've heard good things about the PSP and emulators but I'm experiencing mixed results. N64 games are somewhat sluggish at best with some sound issues. SNES games have text overlay problems and loading save states crash the game. NES games run perfectly, but I'm bummed that I can't put the unit on standby and back without crashing.
If anyone has some suggestions let me know!

Nintendo never really tries to push the envelope on the hardware side. They seem to focus their efforts on quality software and good user experience. You can tell that they pay attention to how people are going to use their product in a day to day scenario.
the ds and 3ds are great systems in their own rights....but i really wish the nintendo store would have a more varied selection....which is why i will NEVER buy one because where i live there is NO places that sell games....we USED to have a Gamestop but they had such an issue with armed robberies the store was closed so now its either digital stores or ebay or bust
I do know the first gen PSPs were like, easy as hell to hack, but no idea if they were decent at handling games.
I could see what version of each emulator I'm running if you'd like.
I never did anything with emulators myself, but I know people who did. (To be honest, I only ever used the stock OS on mine, so couldn't tell you how it all works.)
The PSP-2000 has more built-in memory (RAM) than the PSP-1000 series, though. I guess maybe it's the particular games you're trying to emulate that are the problem? I know this is a real pain in the ass, but maybe try grabbing fresh downloads from elsewhere, I know I've come across more than a few broken ROMs in my day. >.>
What firmware and emulators are you using? I can run NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, GB, GBC, and GBA games on mine with no issues.
