Today on Archetype Informer, we'll be tackling a group of cards (and those related to them) that are a bit more flexible in their design, and have several different ways to make a deck based on them: Empowered!
Based on Saban's Power Rangers, these guys focus on a variety of different effects, mostly adding or Special Summoning Normal Monsters from your hand or deck, as well as adding said cards to your hand and limiting the opponent's field. Lets go over them:
MONSTERS
Aether, the Empowering Dragon
Arnis, the Empowered Warrior
Hydrotortoise, the Empowered Warrior
Terratiger, the Empowered Warrior
Ventdra, the Empowered Warrior
RELATED CARDS
Blue Dragon Summoner
Golden Dragon Summoner
Green Turtle Summoner
Red Sparrow Summoner
White Tiger Summoner
Now, I personally have been experimenting with these guys for months now, and have found a handful of ways to utilize them:
-EMPOWERED EXODIA-
All of the Summoner monsters deal with either adding or summoning Warrior or Spellcaster monsters. Since each Exodia piece is a Normal Spellcaster, Blue Dragon Summoner can nab any of them the second its sent from the field to the Graveyard. Combine this with Emissary of the Afterlife and Wonder Wand, your deck's ability to draw cards isn't just amplified, you can directly add each piece to your had except the Head. The rest of the cards help thin the deck and draw, and I've found this deck to be both effective and fun to play
-EMPOWERED PENDULUM-
While these cards don't have any Pendulum Monsters of their own, they DO have the ability to add them. Since the Empowered monsters add and summon Normal Warriors, Dragons, and Spellcasters, you can get instant access to Flash Knight, Dragon Horn Hunter, Foulcault's Cannon, and Lancephorhynchus. Also, since Pendulums go to the Extra Deck when used as Synchro Material, you can splash in Tuners like Galaxy Serpent or Flamvell Guard (which can be added or summoned via the Empwoered monsters as well), have your other materials go to the Extra Deck, then Pendulum Summon them all over again, turn after turn
Other Splashable cards for either of these decks outside of the usual are:
Summoner's Art
Wonder Wand
Millennium Shield
Chaos Hunter
Summoner Monk
Pot of Riches
These are just a few ways and cards that can be used together. There is a lot of potential with these guys, so if you want something that is both fun and competitive, the Empowered and Summoner cards might be just what you're looking for~

Though, not to nitpick, Lancephorhynchus is actually a Dinosaur-type monster. I myself was surprised to find out it was, but also delighted, because now it's searchability has increased drastically thanks to fossil dig c:
Ohhh, my bad! Still, you make a good point, its still searchable. Just need to toss that in with/in place of Summoner's Art. If you want to know more I'd be happy to share my deck builds with you ^^
Pendulum decks are just going to get better and better with more support, but the recent formats have drifted away from my style of deckbuilding and place. thing's got a hell of a lot more conservative, a lot more control oriented, and waaaay too much negation.
I prefer making decks that just overextend ridiculously, but with this trap heavy format, and with everything getting destroyed or negated a lot recently, it's hard for decks like that to survive c:
I AM however, VERY excited for the release of extra Fluffal/Frightfur support in may c: The Arc-V Anime was pretty awesome and I just love the cute and cuddly things being deformed so horrendously. It's a shame Sora doesn't get a lot of screentime, really. :c
I gotta ask, what's your thoughts on the Yosenju stuff hitting the game these days? C:
Yes, that sums up the format. Most everything relies on control and Extra Deck, using speed to get where you need to be. Its a far cry from where the game started, which is why I try and bring light to these sorts of decks that people seem to overlook. As per the way you like to duel, there isn't anything wrong with that, I play like that at times too. Its a lot more fun, you just need to find some more casual players to test with
I know, right? I was dueling last night against them, I can't wait til they're released. Sora is by far my favorite character in Arc-V
Oh? I actually have a disdain for things that get overly popular, I like to wait til the hype goes down before tackling and learning about them. As such I've only dabbled with them, and I haven't had a chance to effectively try them or look at their new stuff. What I HAVE seen and done suggests that they're decent, and require some actual skill and thought to play, unlike most decks these days that ride themselves. In that regard they're pretty fun and challenging, and once they hype has died down I'll likely give them a review^-^
I was actually far more interested in their links to Japanese folklore (and of course their unconventional spirit like bouncy style)
Performapal looked pretty interesting, and I admit, Reiji makes DDD look awesome c:
But admittedly, I run a normal pendulum build, with a lot of fun techs in like Majesty's fiend (because control can play both ways!) sadly, as much as them going to the extra deck is a super big bonus, if they kill enough of one side of your scale, you're not gunna be able to make the scale long enough to have them back, it's the only problem I've really come across so far when playtesting my build (though admittedly I play against the YGOPro AI, and it's not the smartest of duelists.) Plus, I have to say, have you ever seen someone so frustrated to see you have both majesty's fiend and jinzo on the field? It's an easy feat with pendulum decks. and unless they can summon a 2450 or higher beater without the use of monster effects, with only spells to help them (to be honest an easy feat these days also, you have a lockdown xD (though I admit, Spell canceller is a considerably beautiful card I'm contemplating throwing in) Also, with cards like heat wave and Tyrant's throes. Your opponent can't even summon effect monsters. It's a fun deck build, I'll have to show you sometime c:
I haven't looked into that, I'll have to do so sometime
They're a LOT of fun, I did an article about them a few months ago actually. They're got a lot of style and weird abilities that help turn the tables and get you where you wanna go. Keeps the opponent guessing, its like pseudo control. Oh yes, he certainly does. They're not bad, but they're pretty singular in what they can do. Performapal is sort of all over the place in what you can do with them but you have to work at them to get them to do what you want. D.D.D. has all of one or two strategies and isn't that hard to get used to, though they make up for it with good power
It depends on the kind of Normal Deck you run. I have several different variants of Empowered, but i also have a Normal Deck that is just adding the high scale Pendulums to your hand and picking which ones to set and use at a time. Supplemented with Skill Drain and destruction, its still int he testing stages. That lockdown of yours sounds nifty, I'd like to try dueling it at some point ^^
Are you on YGOPro/DevPro? (I forgot which I had) or are you using DN?
I prefer to you DevPro, since its automated and tends to be quicker ^^
