Admittedly I've only seen the trailers, which make it look like it will be a pretty good popcorn movie. However, again based solely on what I've seen in the trailers, it seems impossible to deny that this film is essentially just a reimagining of the movie Short Circuit. Think about it:
A robotics engineer builds robots designed to replace/reinforce human soldiers.
One of them malfunctions, becoming self aware, and goes into hiding with sympathetic human friends as his newly formed intelligence develops. His education includes artistic endeavors as well as imitation of what he sees on television.
The robot is seen as a threat by those in power so they enlist the old war horse (Hugh Jackman), who didn't even like the idea of the robots to start with, to hunt it down and destroy it.
I'm not saying it will be a bad movie, and I know there's no such thing as an original idea in Hollywood anymore. I'm just saying the similarities are quite striking. What do y'all think?
