Ah she just looks a bit young to me, I want to I guess try again, or just sleep on it and look at it tomorrow. XD I think it's the lack of nose that may be it, which is just part of Gengar's design.

Thicker/curvier body might make her look a bit older/more mature (Gengar is pretty much curve city with some spiky bits). Wavy or curly hair to contrast spikes? Yes, dragon pokemon are a must. Tons of excellent recommendations above. I'd like to see Buizel, Zangoose, and possibly Aggron for something more brutish.
