Why I won't make a general reference sheet.
I had someone message me yesterday through Facebook asking me why I won't make a general reference sheet (I guess something like Waitress bases) that I could let everyone use for my species, or why I don't do them at all. Well, I guess I should address that now, before people decide whether or not they want to commission me.
Honestly, I am not a fan of generic bases that can be used over and over again. Not that I have anything against an artist that uses them, because honestly, that probably makes their work hella easier, but it's just not for me. I'm one of those weird artists who wants to make sure that any and everything I ever give to another person is unique and individual. I know that not everyone wants portrait style art of their sonas, and that's okay, but for those that do, I try to cater to their individual needs and give them something truly worthy of their characters. I'm biased when it comes to portrait art, so there is that too.
Another reason I don't make a general reference base is because I don't want people making profit off of my work. It's one thing to turn around and sell a sona that you've bought from me, but if someone were to just take my base and color it in to sell it as their own creative work, I'd genuinely be angry. I understand that some people just don't have the same talent for linework as they do for their coloring, but if that's the case, I would much rather create a line-art for someone to color in themselves and keep as their own, not for profit distribution.
Anyway, I figured I might explain that a little since it's been a questions I've been asked a few times in the past few days.

Nice to see an artist that prefers to make unique pieces rather than sell recoloured clones! I'll keep a tab on you <3.
And no, you weren't being a jerk - just opinionated. Which is perfectly fine so long as it's a personal choice and not something forced upon others! Humans are individuals and think of how boring it'd be if everyone agreed. Looking forward to your continued works~!
