Fear Ref

The world seemed very still.
Fear opened their eyes slowly from a deep sleep to see only gray emptiness for what seems like it spans for eternity. The In-Between was a lonely place where few pass. Souls that come through here are usually just small smudges in the distance or a light mist that covers their lonely souls. Fear was used to never being able to see each souls faces, but it's also not much of a surprise when there was the occasional soul with more defining features of a face. Each soul that passes by, Fear can hear about all of their lives in a soft whisper. It always intrigued the young dragon; each life had their own history: dreams, successes, failures, their loves and hates...Fear has heard every single one.
It buried their head into it's one black wing to keep itself warm from the bitter cold of the In-Between. They let out a soft sigh, listening to each soft whisper to hone in on which soul to help. After a few quiet moments, they perked slightly and peeked from under their wing to see a very young human child , perhaps around 6-7 years old, crying softly in the distance. Although life has seemingly been unfairly cruel to this child, Fear could help calm the child and lead them where they should be...home.
Without hesitation, it slipped their trusty blindfold on to conceal their striking blood red eyes and calmly approached the child. It knelt down, putting its' hand on the young humans head, petting it softly like a mother would. The child lifted their head slightly to see Fear kneeling before them, giving a soft small smile. For a moment, the child seemed slightly confused seeing this strange creature. The child wiped away some of the tears, "Who are you? Where am I? Where's...mommy?" Before the child could speak any more, Fear put a finger the humans lips softly. It held it's other hand out for them, nodding it's head sternly to let them know there's not much time. Fear could feel the opportunity for this child to return back to the living was closing in. Without hesitation, the child took their hand and Fear immediately went towards the dimension back to Earth using their heightened senses of smell and sound. For what seemed like an eternity, the two souls returned into a dark and misty forest on Earth. The child searched around in bewilderment, having forgotten where their present body could be until a small flicker of light turned up in the distance; it was a small house in the forest, and it could barely be seen through the mist. Fears ears flicked slightly as it went towards the house and phased through the walls, arriving into the childs bedroom where the body was comfortably in bed. When Fear approached the childs body, it sighed of small relief as it could still hear the child breathing and was mostly sound asleep. The child's spirit finally returned to its owner, with a small glimmer of white light going into the chest and glowing for a few moments before the body took a deep breath.
Swearing it wasn't just a dream, the child awoke quickly to only find that the creature has disappeared into thin air.
