but I am never going to Weasyl. Too many people have tried to make me go there and some have been rather underhanded. It puts a bad taste in my mouth thinking about the site.

honestly, i really just want some kind of feedback on the writing that i can pass on, the bit about weasyl is mostly directed at people who already have one and get on every once in a while xD

Rae used to have an FA but was one of the folks who moved over to Weasyl because FA was way too problematic and there was things happening that made them really unhappy.

Rae does have a tumblr as well, i suppose i could link that here... and a DA (DA isn't used often)

Unfortunately the furry fandom as a whole gives minimal shits about writers. Unless you write erotica and have an established fanbase or have friends that will give you money because they're your friends you're typical out of luck.

We do humanoid writing as well! Our two primary characters are humans and we have both done a lot of independent short-story writing involving them, as well as our other characters. ^_^

I used to write on yiffplanet back when that was a thing, but now I'm not sure about getting writing exposure. It always feels like there are way more people interested in visual media and not enough wanting others, particularly text.

The best thing I could say is that she should look into artists that offer story contests to accompany their art. Ru used to do that, and if y'all contact him, he might be willing to throw something her way, provided she can write something up for a piece he might do. Also you could talk to Taki, who I used to see do a lot of writing, or try looking for Tempo (who is an accomplished author).

i'll see about checking them out, but Rae is generally very introverted and talking to people is hard for them, :O may have to do it myself but i'm fine with it if i can do something to help.

i've been waiting since like, January for this bastard to be fixed, but there's been so many issues.... but we did finally narrow it down to the processor, and once that's replaced i can finally set up a desktop. god it's gonna be so nice ;n;

Yeah, having a desktop is really nice for gaming, streaming and all that nonsense. As for the amd stuff, normally they are pretty good about getting back to people, but they also aren't too expensive to replace if necessary.

If she wants pointers on things, I'm happy to look over her stuff, but I would recommend that you have multiple people look that sort of thing over. Normally one person's perspective isn't always helpful for critique and what, but the more you have, the better and more well-rounded it can be.

As for jobs, I would honestly look at applying on monster and stuff. Thats how I landed my current gig and it will end up paying me 50k/yr or so + company benefits.

You don't have to be a member of the guild to join the forums or make use of their tools and most of the folks there are very experienced and incredibly helpful. I also spend most of my time at work dicking around in the shout box there >.> The site and the folks in it led to (so far) two published works, one that's awaiting acceptance, and a long term project I'm chipping away on in the background :3 Anything posted in the critique board can only be seen by members of the forum, so therefore is considered unpublished. It's a great way to get feedback and critique, and for her to give her own in turn (what better way is there to learn than to teach?).

well Rae's more into writing anyways, like, i've heard a few 'writing is my passion' comments so places to write are good deals.

and does FWG just get stuff for furry writing cause a lot of Rae's stuff is humanoid, as that's what Rae is into xD not as big on furry stuff and i don't think either of us have ever written stories using furry characters, so i want to make sure it won't get overlooked because it's humanoid stuff on a furry site.

Sofurry is big on stories and writing so they would probably get good feedback there.

As someone who mostly uses SoFurry, I can say that there is possibly even less feedback there than there is on Weasyl right now. There are fewer users, and most of them only use/abuse the star ratings.

Thats weird :o most of the stories I click on have lots of feedback. Just by going to the first page I checked again and most of the stories have feedback and comments, not all but most seem to.

mmmm, do they write more than just furry stuff on there? :O Rae's very much more humanoid focused so i want to find a community that's not going to just ignore their stuff cause it's not fluffy enough xD

There is some human stories too yeah, but from what i've seen there is also wolves or gryphons or mythical stuff in the stories too.

I recently asked peopel if they get any input on weasyl in my most recent journal. Whenever I post to weasyl I get NO input, and barely any pageviews.

I would highly suggest having them get a SoFurry account. I really enjoyed the environment on SoFurry as you usually get a pretty dedicated amount of viewers and input, especially if you're a writer- probably more than on FA, because they put a lot of emphasis on writers and even showcase good authors. I find that I read a whole lot more stories when I am on SF vs. when I am on FA or Weasyl. I personally have kind of given up on Weasyl for now- I personally feel like most of Weasyl's content is uploaded as a secondary dumping grounds for artists who aren't there to look at or invest in any other artists (plus I dont feel there are many comissioners in there either), and there's even less front page exposure for writers on Weasyl than on the other art sites.

More exposure points is always good. SoFurry, DEviantart, Inkbunny maybe? Tumblr? Anything you can maange to update. It also is really important to make yourself well known, you know? Talk in the forums, talk on furry groups. FurNation, Google Plus furry groups, any type of forums really that expose who you are. Reddit even. all those things get you more exposure and you have to do them a lot of the time to keep it.

i have a hard time getting commissions over there, usually i can at least pull in one person for a bust, but the last batch i didn't get ANYTHING until i posted here xD;

It's really sad, cause i like Weasyl.

but yeah i can't personally get into SF so i'm not sure how keen Rae would be to it... wondering if there's a site they can get on that's not furry specific either? a lot of Rae's writing focus' more on humanoid characters, so i feel like looking at furry sites is also a really bad miss for Rae's stuff.

idk, Tumblr Rae has, i just am not personally sure how to get exposure over Tumblr either, tbh.
I'll have to look into ways to get more recognition on the sites Rae has, and maybe search out writing groups that aren't limited to one type of character (ie, just furries, or just people, or just monsters)

I really like Weasyl too! In design it's great, it's just that the community is so unresponsive there. I don't blame you or Rae for feeling bad about that. Everyone I have talked to has either said 'the community is small' or 'I gave up I get nothing from weasyl.' So it's definitely not a matter of problems with like, skill or exposure there. It's just not been set up right community wise or something.

I'm sure there are a lot of interesting sites they could do. One neat site I found thorough someone here was letsartplay, but that's more like forum story-writing with art. It's still pretty cool though. Maybe you could help Rae on artplay by doodling what Rae writes.
