Hunt the Good Stuff
What is "hunting the good stuff"? Part of some mandatory training I have to take focuses on this principle. The training itself is called "resiliency training". The objective is to help us overcome adversities and such in our day to day lives. The foundation of this is hunting the good stuff.
So, it's very easy for us to focus and find the bad stuff. The stuff that puts us down. The stuff that makes us sad. The stuff that invokes all those negative emotions and feelings. When we start to actively look for good stuff, it starts coming easier. When we find good stuff, it tends to repel the bad stuff. What is the "good stuff"? That depends on you.
For example, "Today I was late and missed that meeting". <---Good stuff or bad stuff? Depends on perspective
Bad stuff. "Now I'm not going to get that promotion, my boss is going to fire me, and I'll be out of a job"
Good stuff. "Well, I didn't really want to sit in on that useless, pointless meeting anyway. At least now I'll be able to get a jump on that project I need to start today."
That is just one example. They don't have to be big things either, like, "I got that promotion today!"
While that is a great example of some really good stuff, it doesn't have to be that grand. For example, "I got up this morning." "I got a good parking spot." "The line wasn't too long at StarSchmucks Coffee Hut." "I got some good coffee today." "So-and-so said hi to me." "I got to see her smile."
All of those are small things, but good things. Sure, even though it was raining out, and your dog ran away, and your boss yelled at you...you still have those other things to focus on. When you see good things, it's a lot easier to see past the bad stuff. The more you do this, the easier it gets.
I hope this will help some of you out there struggling to stay positive!
tl;dr Find small, but good things every day to be happy about.

Nuuuuuuuu! Resiliency training! But honestly, despite the long drawn out presentation that usually occurs it does have some decent info and things to follow. Honestly I think more of the younger people could really use it these days with all the depression and so on. Good luck with the rest of the mandatory briefs :P

You're absolutely right. The briefs need some work. However, the information is very good.
