Someone help?

When I turned on my laptop this morning, I discovered my desktop had been switched from the picture I'd put up about a week ago, to one of the default WindowsXP desktops. I also discovered a lot of my icons had been moved around, as if they'd also been switched back to default. I got a little Windows pop-up bubble in the corner, telling me to check out all the new features in Windows XP.
So...I go check on my documents, and everything I'd ever written is gone. All my pictures are gone. Every photograph I've ever taken and put on my computer...gone. I didn't reformat. I just used my computer last night and it was fine, and the day before that I did a virus scan, and it came back clean. I don't know why this happened, but if anyone out there reads this, please offer me an explanation if you can, and tell me if there's any way I can fix this...

Holy shit, man. That's horrible. D: But I've never seen or heard of such a thing, so I've no idea what to say. D:

Well, it's not quite as bad now. I found my documents and most of my pics. They were all in the documents folders in my C drive instead of in my 'My Documents' folder. Still lost the pics I had in the folders on my desktop, but that's not such a big deal.
