Is it stopping you completely from opening it or is it just giving you that message?? Because it does the same thing to me but it still opens.

It stops me COMPLETELY from opening this one certain file I have, which I need, because it is a reference.

I did some more digging and unchecked always use file viewer, and that worked for just opting to open a file, but when I tried to open that particular referencce image again, it just refused.

If I try to open it directly ( clicking the image, and opening with sai while sai isn't open ) it'll just crash.

I'm going to have to just go note my commissioner and ask them to send me the file in a different manner. Maybe I'll just prntscrn it and hope that will suffice.

This is really annoying though. It came out of nowhere. SAI's never given me any lip. Now all of a sudden it wants to be a brat.

Sai can be a giant pain in the ass, it has never tried to stop me from opening the file, but I have found that depending on how you save the file, is going to be whether or not Sai is going to try to stop you from opening it, so I think you are going about this the right way :3

it was from some photo image site. I don't think it was photobucket...I think it was one I had never heard of.

I've seen that SAI sometimes crashes on PNG files (not sure why). Try opening the file in something like paint and saving it in another format (like JPG) then open it again in SAI. Also try saving the file in its own folder. SAI lists all the files in a folder and can possibly crash with that same error if some of the files in a folder are PNG.

Had that happen before with previously accessible files.

Best temp. fix I found was to Open the file in an alternate file (like Paint), save it under a new name (ergo a new file) and try re-loading the new file through in SAI.

Well they're all suggesting what I was gonna say haha. Mine once let me open a file I'd previously been working on, but anytime I tried to save it said would crash. So my bf told me to try changing the file name and lo and behold! So definitely give that a try haha

If you can, open it in Photoshop or another art program like Paint, and then re-save it. Occassionally I have this problem and for me, opening it in Photoshop fixes it.
