New Komickrazi Policy - Ref sheets!
In the past I have accepted Ref sheets and/or detailed descriptions when commissioning a fursuit. However to reduce confusion and to avoid getting a ref sheet and 5 paragraphs explaining what is wrong with the ref sheet I must insist on a new policy of ONE dedicated ref sheet.
When requesting a quote or going forward with a commission, I now require ONE (and only ONE) ref sheet.
Ref sheets are inexpensive ways to explain EXACTLY what you want your suit to look like. They show color choices, markings and patterns so I know how to make your fursuit. If I have to look a multiple images and read 6 different emails to know what you want your suit to look like it; A) makes more work for me to try and keep track, and B) increases the likelihood of error which cost me time and materials to change/fix.
Ref sheets are relatively inexpensive. You can get a decent ref sheet for between $40-100, whereas you fursuit may be $1500-3000 Even if an artist charges for changes to a ref sheet, it is still significantly cheaper than the costs of having to change a fursuit.
Types of Refs I will accept:
-3 way or 2 way turn arounds that show all markings, colors and details you want on your finished suit
-colored in free-to-use templates such as those you can download and color in yourself
-Photo(s) of an animal if you just want a realistic artistic liberty animal
-Badges ONLY if they show the entire body and all markings and colors accurate to what you want
I will NOT accept:
-detailed descriptions with no image
-a ref sheet with an attached 5 page email with all the things wrong with the ref
-screenshots from Second life
-a link to EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF ART you have ever had made for you
-Badges that are just a head shot
This new policy is effective immediately on any new quotes or commissions. Please note I am doing this for both my benefit and my customer. It is easier for me to have a single ref to work from, and therefore I am less likely to make a costly mistake.
Thank you very much for understanding!
** REMINDER! Bone dragon is still up for adoption! details are available here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6624839/ **

FA+

What I don't like?
a 3 view reference sheet of someone's dick when they're sending in a commission form xD
one time I got a ref sheet with someone's close-up of their vagina spread
IN FRONT OF MY SISTER
I should have known better >.>;
But now I don't care nearly as much living with my boyfriend, it's more of a 'they linked me a nsfw ref and im too lazy to change my fa settings right now'
would a ref like flykat be ok if it was artistic liberty?
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14532017/
(i wouldn't dream of getting has a suit lol)
just using as example XD
tho i guess it'd fit in the show an animal class?
For artistic liberty you don't really NEED a ref sheet, since the point is to let the maker have creative freedom over the finished product.
i mean i'm in talks of having a semi artist freedom suit, the ref they get is the character normal
and i told them to zombify it to their hearts content XD (and they are waiting for that day lol)
semi cause fur colors (what fur is left on it lol) is set and eye colors if there are eyes left etc
Also, "20inchtripleknotsharkdonger" made me snort!
Totally understand what you're saying (and I have to admit I giggled at a few points you made x3) If your ref sheet has 5 paragraphs of problems on it for a fursuit commission, I mean... its a fursuit commission you're about to spend 1K + on, surely you can take a couple bucks and get a revamped ref sheet to ensure the look of your fursuit, right?
Often while on the waiting list or while I am working on the costume I will also get requests for changes because a customer suddenly needs purple spots or antlers.
A fursuit is like a tattoo... they cost a lot of money and can be hard to fix. You better know exactly what you want and love it before making a commitment.
also very appropriate comparison ^^
And then here I am, with an outdated ref sheet...... I cringe every time I have to write the one sentence correction cause I know the artist is probably like.. ooooh.. you just did that. :S Reeeaaallllyyy gotta get that thing updated! XP
Strange people are willing to skimp on smaller essential things, then dump a ton of money into a really expensive thing.
I would like to get back into it at some point, but probably not in the near future.
I thought it was bad when people commissioned porn before a reference sheet. That is some class A laziness!
I love your art :3
HEY EVERYONE, look! Someone who makes REF SHEETS!
I have to keep 30+ commissions in my brain at any given moment. I am only human. If you change your mind 16 times between when you commission me and when I start working on your costume, it is highly likely I will make a mistake because I have forgotten something.
Ideally, one should know EXACTLY what they want BEFORE commissioning a costume maker. However should they change their mind, their ref sheet needs to reflect those changes.
